Hi,

Fresh Helix user, sadly not very experienced with sorting things on this device and couldn't find anything in custom tone section or forum.

I am trying to get 2 tones ... rhytam and solo tone from the band Evergrey:

Rhytam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pmmh69G-pt0&feature=youtu.be&t=158

Solo: https://youtu.be/Pmmh69G-pt0?t=297

Does anyone have this already created and willing to share or any advice in what direction to go to get these two patches?

Thank you

Did a quick search of Everygrey amps and found three it looks like they are associated with- I recommend starting with a PV Panama (Peavey 5150), German Mahadeva (Bogner Shiva), or German Ubersonic (Bogner Überschall).  I personally like to use dual cabs with a dynamic and condenser mic to widen the range of tone.  Hope this helps.

The post above should get you near to what you are seeking.

Those sounds are not far removed from a JCM 800. Try the amps noted above, but also try the 2204 & 2204 Mod.

For the lead sound... add a wah.. and push the gain just a little more.

Surprisingly, those tones don't have as much gain as you might think they do, but they are really refined... and that starts with mic choice/position & post production.

Flokianni.... if you are not aware of how mics and positions effect the tone, be prepared for a learning curve. It's a critical part of what you are hearing. After the cabinet try adding the LA Studio Comp & some ambient reverb (not too much) to smooth out the edges (eg: refine the tone). If you use dual cabinet, make sure you insert the "stereo" models for these.

Thank you all for suggestions and answers.

I have purchased some iRs from Ownhammer and MLSound lab, trying to experiment with these to get better sounds. It is about 50% better then with stock cabs but whatever I do, the sound is still plastic, synthetic, dinamics are bad and that feeling when playing is very artificial. This is my entry to digital world (own and play H&K, Peavey and Messa tube amps for past 20 years) and now it is hard to be satisfied with something artificial. On the other hand, it is really easier to dial tones for home recordings with Helix and Helix native, just need to figure out how to get that "better tone" for recording raw tracks. It is always easier to mix it later if you initially have a good tone.

I did have HD500 (still have it somewhere) and it did well on live gigs when needed a backup but for some reason I cannot make Helix sound better then that. Maybe it is just my incompetence with this device, that is why I wanted to ask if someone can re-create the tone so I can see what I am doing wrong.

I have tested hundreds of patches from customtone library but almost all of it sound weak on studio monitors. Guess, I'll have to keep trying :-/

Hi,

This has been said many, many times on this forum - coming from valve amps and the “amp in the room” sound - then this is going to be TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

The sound from Helix in more like the polished sound from the desk and monitors that you would experience in the control room of a recording studio. The Helix will give you sounds that you are more used to hearing from a commercial recording. The trouser flapping effect of standing next to a 4x12 cab is a world away.

To what (and how) is your Helix connected, because that may be having an affect on what you are hearing.

Plus, this has also be mentioned lots of times - downloads from CustomTone are going to be different unless you are using EXACTLY the same equipment, guitar, pickups, environment, etc. - it will not sound the same.
