dacop13
Does anyone else here use Preamps only? I run through an Orange Pedal Baby and a real 2x12 cabinet and find the preamps sound much better. Just wondering if others use the preamps. codamedia
Yes, quite regularly. If the power amp section of an amp is not a big part of the behavior/tone of that amp, I will often just use the pre-amp versions. I tend to get a beefier tone from the pre-amps alone. There are notable exceptions... VOX Amps and Tweed amps in particular require the full amp models and I also prefer the PLEXI that way. My current live rig is based around a Deluxe Normal Channel pre-amp and a Celestion Ruby IR. I'm experimenting with replacing the Deluxe with the new Princeton pre-amp and it's sounds great (better) here in my studio, but there are no gigs to test it in right now. For reference... I go direct to FOH/Monitors and also an FRFR when needed.
themetallikid
so, you use just the 'preamp' only version direct to FOH?

Sure, this makes sense. As long as you add an IR or Cab with that Preamp, FOH will be fine.
dacop13
Also would like to add, preamps sound even better when going through a tube amp's return.
