dacop13
I am thinking about picking up a Line 6 powercab (not the plus version) and noticed if has speaker emulation settings on the cab itself. What if I just wanted to use what I have in the preset like a Mesa 4x12 V30 cab for instance. I would assume setting the powercab to "Flat" is the way to go? Does that sound good? Or do you guys usually use one of the cab emulation settings within the powercab and shut off the cab block? Thanks

Some presets will sound best with cab/IR, some will sound better with speaker emulation. Part of what you get for the extra $ when you buy PC112+ is the ability to automatically switch per preset. This requires the L6 Link or MIDI, so if you have a Stomp, you'd need to program MIDI for each preset. IMO, buying the basic PC112 is one of those choices which, down the road, results in "What was I thinking?!" It will never be more than it is out of the box, whereas the PC112+ will be improved upon. If initial investment is the issue, look for a used PC112+ that's still within the warranty period. The warranty is transferable.

Thanks for the explanation of what the Plus version can do, but I do not see myself messing with MIDI or Line 6 Link and/or setting up presets with cabs from the Powercab. I would be using the cabs in the Helix only through Flat on the powercab. Probably best for me to stick with the basic version. So with the basic version, lets say I set it to Flat or Jenson, all my presets will take on that Flat or Jenson setting correct?

Yes. If you want to switch from a preset that uses a cab/IR on the "Flat" setting to a preset without cab/IR that uses the Jarvis (Jensen) you'll need to walk over to the PC112 and change it manually.

This is a really important detail to draw attention to about the PC versus the PC+ when people are making their purchasing decision and bears repeating. There is no L6Link or MIDI control on the basic version of the PowerCab. As you pointed out changes to speaker selection must be made from the PC manually unlike the PC+ which features extensive remote control from the Helix/LT. Definitely a nice price point on the PC though.
