Helix as an interface ideas

I wish the Helix had blocks of classic rack gear for studios. I don’t see any reason we couldn’t leverage the DSP ala UA with the Helix. There is already a mic pre, make a neve, already an 1176 wouldn’t a Distressor be awesome? I am surprised this hasn’t happened years ago.

What would be the use case for having this sort of rack gear modeled in the Helix? I like the Distressor as well, but there are several good plug-in versions out there. It just seems for gear that’s more pure studio stuff, most people would just go the plug-in route.

Even though I have a Helix floor dedicated to my studio as my audio interface, I have to agree that most of this type of equipment would be much more useful as a DAW plugin than as a block in the Helix.  Even though I might route my keyboard, or vocals, or other instruments through the Helix into the DAW, other than guitar I'm more likely to want to use those type of studio facilities after I've captured the dry vocal, keyboard, etc. tracks.  Many of these type of facilities are also more applicable to a mastering role across the entire mix than during the capturing process.

I'm in favor of this. We already are starting to see it on the Neural DSP where you will be able to use their plugins on the Quad Cortex. Plenty of users employ their HX device strictly in their studios. In addition many posts on the forum exhort users to understand that they should not expect an "amp in the room" sound but instead a mic'd amp more like you would hear in a studio. Seems fair to turn around and say why not have at least certain models of rack type effects.  LA Studio Comp, 3-Band Comp, Dimension D Chorus, and Trinity Chorus to name a few are already in there btw. Pretty much in that ballpark.
