soundchaser
Good morning. I have a POD HD 500, but am thinking about getting the HD 500x because I understand you can route the patches to either the xlr out or to the 1/4 out. I use a JTV 59 Variax and would like to have my acoustic patches output from the xlr output (mono) directly to a mixer and my electric patches (also mono) out of the 1/4 output to my amp. Can someone please help me with how to do this on the pedal? Thank you.
hurghanico
I have both devices and I assure you that their signal routing capabilities are identical. And you cannot route the signal of some patches only to the XLR or Jack output, what goes to the XLR goes also to the Jack output, always. What you can do with the 500 or the 500X is to insert the FX LOOP block at the end of the chain of part of the patches to divert their signal towards the SEND output instead of the standard outputs. So at the end the signal of some patches will come out from SEND output and that of the others from the standard outputs (XLR or jack). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
soundchaser
Thanks for the response. I do that already on my HD500, but unfortunately, it's affects the sound of the "electric" guitar patches coming out of the effects send output. So, I am incorrect that there's a difference in how you can do output routing on the 500x vs the 500?

There is no difference in how you can do output routing on the 500x vs the 500. The only functional difference between the 500 and the 500X is that the latter has 20% more DSP resources available, so with the 500X it is easier to be able to build complex patches without exceeding the maximum limit of available resources. 1 hour ago, soundchaser said: I do that already on my HD500, but unfortunately, it's affects the sound of the "electric" guitar patches coming out of the effects send output Ok, if you need the FX LOOP to insert external effects you cannot use the previously suggested solution. As an alternative solution you can take advantage instead of the separation of the 2 channels of the stereo output of the POD, and then pan both the L and R channels of some patches completely to the left, and the L and R channels of the other patches completely to the right, in this way the signal of some patches will come out only from L and that of the other patches only from R.. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
pianoguyy
You cannot send separate signals to separate output types. You can stereo separate, that is all. *as example, build electric patches going to the left and acoustic patches going to the right. Then use the right XLR to pa and left 1/4" to amp (must use dummy plug in right 1/4" jack) The 2 floor units are the same, therefore as long as you have updated the firmware, you will see no benefit of getting the new unit. *The 2 rack units offer additional routing options, but not what you seek.
