What can I do?

Hi Brian,

Don’t Panic - It is very rare that a glitch in the firmware will actually turn your device into an paperweight.

You mentioned that you were updating your Helix LT to the latest v3.11 firmware, but didn’t say what version was already installed. The reason I mention this is because, IIRC, the “boot failure” is actually part of the 2.8 update process, when the main system core was modified. It seems to me this happens when trying to update from firmware versions prior to the core change. See link below.

O.K. Let’s try this to see if we can “kickstart” your hardware into update mode.

  1. Remove all Line 6 software from your computer especially the Windows drivers and then restart your computer.
  2. Make sure to turn off the power to your Helix.
  3. Unplug the USB cable from the computer and Helix.
  4. Hold down FS6 & FS12 and the turn power on and when Helix logo appears, quickly release both foot switches. Leave it powered up.
  5. Download the and install latest HX Edit v.3.11(with all the drivers included)
  6. Reconnect the USB cable to Helix and computer - Do not use a Hub.
  7. Find and launch the Line 6 Updater and re-install the v.3.11 firmware file

Hope this helps/makes sense.

In case it doesn't work as described above, try an offline update. I posted the process before and apparently it helped quite some people:

- Quit HX Edit! Don't start it again until you're finished with everything following.

- Go here and download the Line 6 Updater (in case it's not installed on your machine already):

https://line6.com/software/

- Also download the "Flash Memory" from there (it's the actual update).

- Install the updater.

- Reboot the Helix while holding down switches 6 and 12 (this will take you to safe boot mode).

- Start the Line 6 Updater, select "Offline Mode" and see whether it finds your Helix.

- If yes, select it and choose "local file". Point it to the Flash Memory file you've downloaded.

For Windows users, it's usually as well important to kill the HX Edit service running in the background (even after ending the program). In case you don't know how to do that, just reboot your computer (and don't restart HX Edit). Otherwise the Line 6 Updater might be sort of confused and not find your Helix.

Hi Digital_Igloo.

Thanks for your help.

I followed your 7 steps. Got to step 7 and launched the Line 6 updater, a screen came up 'Select device to update' but alas there were no devices to update. Still at a loss.
