choake
I've been using my Ernie BAll MVP as just a standard mono volume pedal in one of the FX loops in my HX effects, but wanted have it available to use as an expression pedal. I purchased a stereo split cable and hooked up the volume pedal to the expression port in the HX effects, except the unit isn't recognising the MVP is being used. Have tried all the different settings on the unti, as well as checking all the cables and power but still no dice in getting it work or recognise the MVP. Any help to get this working would be great! Hi, There is this video on YT, it’s in Italian - turn on the CC option and you will get subtitles, but it is simple enough to follow without them. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: After being hit with 2 downvotes for this post, I decided that rather than simply delete it, I intend to leave the video link here, because the mod is valid for anyone with an Ernie Ball VPJR and an HXFX. NOTE: To clarify - This will not work with the Ernie Ball MVP (Most Valuable Pedal), or any other active pedal - Apologies. Schmalle
The MVP is an active volume pedal. No chance to use it as expression pedal.

Hi, Apologies, I just checked the Ernie Ball site and @Schmalle is correct - The MVP is an active volume pedal and therefore cannot be used as an expression pedal. You require a VP JR model, like the one in the video that I linked, for it to work correctly as an expression pedal with your HXFX. Oops! I wouldn't recommend these either. They work ok, but: What you want is an expression pedal with a linear 10k pot. If it has a logarithmic pot the pedal doesn't work evenly. If it's lower than 10k you don't reach 100%. And if it's bigger than 10k you reach 100% too early. In other words: the expression input reads the resistance - each 100 Ohm step translates 1% step in the HX. I.e. 2500Ohm/100Ohm = 25%. Anything above 10kOhm (10000 Ohm) translates to 100%. It really is as simple as that.

Tools for the job! BTW. I have been using 2 M-Audio EX-P pedals with my Helix floor, almost daily, since 2016. They a very inexpensive and do the job. I refuse to pay extremely silly high prices for a variable resistor with a treadle. Oh, yeah, I also have another 2 M-Audio units with my Arturia KeyLab Controller Keyboard for Sustain and Expression. No problem - they work just fine - simple as that.
