Catalyst - top harsh?

Hi all, I picked up a cat 200 last week and felt very pleased with myself.. until I got it home and turned it on. To be fair, it's a beautiful clean and mid gain amp but after that, it's a harsh rattly mess. Treble and presence can't dial out the fizz unless you want to sound like the tone on  your guitar is rolled off. As a poweramp, it's grunty but again very harsh. They must be really cheap and nasty speakers. Funny thing is, most people say it's quite a dark amp. Does anyone else have this treble problem?

Some users have complained that initially they didn't like their Cat when they got it home to the point they were going to return it.

But after spending some time with it (speaker break-in perhaps?), they then reported much better results.

Not sure if that's your problem but thought I would pass that along.

The absolute worst amp I have ever bought...and I thought my Flextone sucked! It floors me that after decades in the modeling business, Line 6 just keeps lollipopting the bed. Did anyone play this amp before it was ok'd to be release?? The fizzy/buzzy top end in the driven and high gain is unbearable and at its all time worst. Amp is being returned tomorrow...total fail Line 6!

Have you tried modeling amps from other manufacturers? If so do you like them? If not, perhaps you just don’t like modeling amps in general. And that’s fine; modeling isn’t for everyone. But your criticism then is more about modeling technology rather than a specific manufacturer. I think it’s fair for other readers to know this before they might conclude that the Catalyst is not a good modeling amp.

I have the 60 and at the beginning I was underwhelmed to say the least. Fizzy and harsh. Then I hooked it up to the app, dialed in a sound, futzed with the bias, sag etc as well and got a pretty decent tone. Now months of use the speaker has broken in and it's far less fizzy. I actually have grown to really like this little amp. I also notice it sounds better cranked up too. Oh and dial that presence knob BACK that helps too.
