HX Stomp Won't Connect To HX Edit

After updating to the latest firmware Edit now shows "no device connect". I restarted the computer , reinstalled edit , swapped usb cables , and turned Stomp off and on with and without the cable connect. During the update Stomp was supposed to reconnect with Edit "in a couple of minutes". I let it do it's thing for at least a half an hour , went back to Edit and that's when the problems kicked in. If anybody can help you'd be my best friend in the whole world. Thanks.

Hi,

When seeking assistance from other users it’s a big help to know what computer and operating system you are using.

One important thing to remember is HX Edit cannot connect to any HX hardware device that is in a “failed” state.

I keep saying that I am going to stop doing this, but to save me from lots of typing - this is a cut ‘n’ paste from a while back.

This is the usual “Fail Safe” solution provided by members of this forum. Follow this link, read it thoroughly, and follow the instructions given.

Take Note: this installation technique described within was for an earlier version of the Firmware. Any references to version numbers should be the very latest available for the new 3.70 Firmware. The method for “Offline” updating is identical.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, again,

Your web browser/Windows should not be attempting to open any of the files required for the update. That particular file that ends with the file type .hxf is the actual Firmware package and should simply be downloaded to your computer, in a place where you can find it later, for when you move on to performing a local install of the update.

I’m a Mac user and I’m not sure what that browser is that you are using, but I’m starting to suspect that it might be FireFox. If it is (or whatever other browser) you need to set the preferences for downloading files to a specific folder where you can find them. FireFox has a habit of trying to be helpful (annoying) by trying to unpack, unzip, unrar, any files you get from the internet. You don’t want it to do that. You need to be in charge, not the computer!

You could try downloading the required files with a different browser if this keeps on happening. Or when that window opens you could see if it will download without any “helper” applications, simply by clicking on “Cancel”.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Thanks for taking the time to help. It did make sense but unfortunately didn't work. I was using chrome and all downloads go to the downloads folder. I even tried microsoft edge and ended up with the same problem.  I might even try downloading firefox to see if it'll work. Probably not , but I figure this can't get any worse. I sent a help ticket to Line 6 to see if they can help. Thanks Again.

Hi,

Are you absolutely certain that your settings are correct in Chrome.

I found this:-

https://www.presentermedia.com/blog/my-file-automatically-opens-instead-of-saving-with-chrome#:~:text=Click on "Settings" and you, saved instead of opened automatically.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Thanks , but again , I did as instructed and there's a point where he tells you to "go to advanced Settings, click Downloads, and clear your Auto Open options" but when I get there there's no "clear your auto open options" option only where I have the downloads going (which is the downloads folder) and the option to turn on/off windows asking where I want to send the download every time I download something.

At this point I'm trying system restore because I uninstalled HX Edit and all associated items. So maybe this will put something back that'll get S.S. Minnow off the island. If this doesn't work then LIne 6 will have one more HX Stomp back on the warehouse shelf.

O.K. Gilligan, if this doesn’t float your boat, then maybe we should tune in to the “Twilight Zone” later this evening!

Also, coming up later, “My Favourite Martian”, followed by “The Invaders”.

Hi

Sorry if I misunderstand something here (not English native so translation and reference to so quotes may fail…)

If your Win 7/Chrome PC is trying to autostart the Helix Firmware file that’s a PC problem. I don’t think an exchange of HX Stop unit will help you in this case. The problem starts already when you download the firmware. HX Stomp is not in the loop at that point.

I guess your PC-problem also start the installation package when you download the Edit or the Updater software (witch by the way is included in the HX Edit package). Most likely with a warning that it’s a .exe-file. And that’s fine in most cases, if you know the source of the download. In this case, not so much.

If you can’t turn off this “download auto start” I would propose this.

  • Unplug your HX Stomp by removing the USB cable (just turning the Stomp off does not help).
  • Uninstall the old HX Edit package, as you mentioned. After uninstalling reboot.
  • Check that there are no software or drivers left under intalled applications/functions Line 6, if so uninstall them)
(Those first bullits are to ensure that all remaining software/drivers is removed)
  • Go to another PC that does not have this auto start download problem and download -
    • The latest HX Edit package (3.70) for Windows 7
    • The latest firmware for HX Stomp (3.71)
    • Copy those files to a USB Drive
    • Copy those files to a suitable directory on your PC (i.g. your download directory)
  • Install the HX Edit package and reboot your PC.
  • Plug the USB cable back in.
  • Now, follow the instructions by the letter in datacommando’s post above>>.
  • Remember – Do not run HX Edit and HX Updater at the same time, close the one not in use. Otherwise, you lose this connection with your HX Stomp…

Hope this can be of any help (and that I did not missunderstand your problem, if so I’m sorry..)
