Shuriken and Helix Snapshot issue

I use the Shuriken and Helix with one of my bands. We have been on hiatus since Jan. 5 and I decided to try and tweak some stuff. I am not sure what happened. When I am in snapshot mode I have different variax models, eqs, compressors, etc. assigned to each snapshot. In the past I would change the snapshot, it would change the tuning, the guitar model and all of the different reverbs, eqs, etc. All of a sudden it quit changing any of the variax models or tunings. It stll changes  verbs, eq.s etc. but  it will stay on what ever tuning or guitar model I am in for every snapshot. I tried changing the tuning for a snapshot and save it but it will then stay in that tuning or model no matter which snapshot I am in. I think I changed some little global thing but for the life of me I can't figure out what I might have changed. I hope this makes sense.

and I am doing this on the Helix proper and not workbench or HX edit.

In the Input block, the Variax tab, make sure the Variax setting is Preset,  not Global. Strangely this is a global setting although it is modifiable in every preset.

Thanks. I tried that and the same thing happened....all of my FX blocks turn on and off according to the snapshot, but for some reason the Preset  Variax models or tunings do not change. I tried using the Multi and also the Variax input and same thing happens.

In the input block the first thing that comes up is the gate. I page over and the next page, first knob is Variax settings I assume this is the one you spoke of. I can switch that one from Global to Per Preset. They are acting the same way. It is weird as it was working just fine one day and not the next.

Are you sure you have the desired Variax parameters (Model, Tuning) assigned to the Snapshot controller? You should see white brackets around the values. Also when editing Snapshots you need to either Save the preset before you leave each modified Snapshot, or have the Global Settings -> Preferences ->  Snapshot Edits set to Recall.

 

Forgive me for asking but sometimes it’s the silliest things ….. You do have the Variax connected to the Helix with a VDI cable, right?

You are forgiven! I am using the VDI cable. Not that I couldn't make that kind of silly error as it usually is something silly. What you said didn't fix the issue but it really got me to notice something. None of the parameters like variax model or custom tuning were bracketed, so of course they disappeared when I changed snapshots. I cannot figure out how they got turned off. I have turned it on occasioanally and found that, for example, my high e is a half step flat without me touching it. Some weird bug must have shut everything down. Now that I pushed in the knobs and got the bracket appearing it works fine. I saved the preset, went to another and came back and it saved it as it should.

I really appreciate your help on this. Just having you run me through something made me look at it differently and then I was able to find the problem.

Helix and Variax interaction behaviours can be tricky. I’ve been mystified at times by interactions of the Don’t Force setting particularly when switching presets, or when the alt tuning knob is not set to Standard. And it doesn’t help that the documented behaviour of the Don’t Force setting is different from the actual behaviour. Using the Vol/Tone knobs as Helix FX block parameter controllers can also get confusing. Helix and Variax make a very powerful combination but it can get complicated.
