Hi

i have a used Catalyst 60 (2022) i did register it with Line 6 a few weeks back. I have a ESP LTD 256 that I purchased a few week back ( my 2nd guitar).

I’m a 60 year old beginner ( I don’t know why it took me so long to start playing electric guitar…I wished I would have started much earlier in life because I hav throughly enjoy messing around with this amp and guitar) I have downloaded the app for this amp to my iPad and trying to learn how to set it up either manually or on the app for a blues tone and my guitar tone also.
I have noticed and fooled around with 12 presets already installed on this amp, however I don’t know if these presets were defaults or loaded by the previous owner , however the all sound good to me.

i would appreciate any help with setting up my amp/ guitar for a blues tone.

thank you

Have you explored the Customtone site (see top of this page)? Filtering for the Catalyst amp series I see 121 presets/tones available for download. Perhaps some of them will provide at least a starting point for further tweaking.

If you've upgraded the Cat's FW to the latest version you now have 12 amps (vs the original 6).

Depending on your concept of "Blues Tone", one of them should do the job.

Try them all and use the KNOBS on the Cat to fine tune the amps.

The original amps are in GROUP 1 and the NEW amps are in Group 2.

D/L the new CATALYST Pilot's Guide to see what the amps in each group are.

Don't be afraid to try the HI-Gain amps. Lowering the GAIN can get some fine modern blues tones out of even the BADONK!

Keep in mind that the Tone Stack knobs are very important, especially the MID control.

To upgrade…

Customtone is just a website. You download files using a browser such as Safari. The downloaded files go wherever they normally go, usually the Downloads area of your iPad. Then you use the app to load the downloaded preset files to your Catalyst amp.

well, I downloaded the updated firmware.. I have it in my download files, however it will not give me an option to download to my edit app unless there’s some way my edit app can download that file?

Have you downloaded the Line 6 Updater file? It is not the firmware. It is an executable file; run it and continue to follow the Firmware Update Instructions.

After updating the firmware you can use the edit app to load preset files downloaded from Customtone.

Seems the Line 6 Updater program is only compatible with Mac or Windows computers - not an iPad. Do you have access to a Mac or PC to use temporarily to update your firmware? Then you will be able to use the iPad app for preset management.

In my opinion the best blues models are Boutique A, and if you have done the update, Boutique B as well.

Step 0: Screw around with the knobs on Boutique A until it sounds the way you like.  Save the model once it is dialed in, and write the settings down because it will be over-written when you flash the new models.

Step 1: Flash the new models with the CX version of the amp.

Step 2: Re-save the Boutique A the way you like it.  Screw around with Boutique B until that is where you want it.  You can also save variations to slots you don't use, like maybe the Hi Gain slots.
