bravo929
Hi everyone, I noticed there is a mic in connector on the front panel of the pod HD Pro X. It never occurred to me what im trying to do might not be possible. Seeing others record their pod's through a real mic peeked my intrest so i went out and got a sm57 since the built in mics does not capture that how i thought it would (its good just want the real sound). QUESTION: Is it possible to have a real SM57 record the output of the pod through a cab? Everytime i connect the USB cable to the computer, the sound through the cab goes quite. it would go like this Guitar in-> Mic In -> processed signal out cab -> mic capture into Daw Is this even possible for what im trying to do? Thanks
arislaf
Yes it is. Simple, make one ath for guitar only, and second path for the mic, panned hard both of them. On the daw, you can center and adjust as you wish.
silverhead
I'm not sure I understand, so please correct me if I'm wrong...... You say you want have a real SM57 record the output of the pod through a cab. As I understand that, you would want to have your guitar connected to the Guitar Input on the Pod, and have the Pod Output connected to your cab. You then want to place you mic in front ot the cab, and have it connected to the Mic Input on your Pod. You then want the Pod's mic'd cab sound (not the guitar input) directed to your DAW for recording. This would be using only the Pod as your audio interface to your computer/DAW; no other audio interface. Is that correct? Please confirm or clarify and then we can direct you further. bravo929
@ silverhead, yes that is correct, i want the mic to capture the cab sound and have that routed to the DAW. The issue is when i have the USB in, the cab sound does not come through anymore. @ arislaf, I've tried that, ill take a look again
silverhead
OK - using that setup, here are my comments: - you will need to use a dual-path setup that keeps both Pod Inputs completely separate, as arislaf notes. This means you should not place any amp/FX before the path split in your signal chain. Also (see next point) you should also avoid using any FX after the mixer in either path of your signal chain. - you may encounter internal feedback that renders the whole setup useless. I have never tried this so can't say. But theoretically the Pod may not be able to handle your request that it process essentially the same input signal (your guitar) twice, in a time-delayed fashion: once from the guitar itself and then again, delayed by a few ms, from your cab/mic. Be very careful with volume levels the first time you try this. - if it works without internal feedback, make sure you select only the Pod's Mic channel output as the input source for the track in your DAW. Let us know how it goes.
bravo929
Okay slight problem, about to do the split and all but when i have the USB connected to the PC, nothing comes out of the cab with my guitar in (meaning if i play something, i just hear feed back). that's the new problem here. once i unplug it, it plays through just fine. If i cant have the USB connected to the pc im not even sure how to transfer the digital signal over from the mic.
