Can't send midi signal from HXFX to ToneX pedal

Hello, afters years with my trusty PodGo, I just bought a used HX Effects. Brilliant pedal, works well but I'm stuck when it comes to sending midi signals.
I'm trying to use Control center in snapshot mode to send a program change to a ToneX pedal.  I've seen a lot of people doing it with HXFX or HX Stomp, it's as simple as chosing the midi channel, setting the CC00 as the bank then chosing the program. Yet it fails changing anything on the destination pedal ( I'm plugged with a brand new 5 pin cable in the midi in of ToneX from HXFX's midi out).

What I've tried :
-> Turning
MIDI PC Tx to OFF and also with Rx set to Midi
-> changing midi channels on both pedals / setting HXFX to be "omni"
-> Resetting the HXFX pedal to factory settings

Basically I tried a lot midi setups in the HX. Am I missing something in the settings?
Is there a way (some king of diagnostic?) to know the midi port is healthy? I'm of course investigating to see if the problem comes from the destination pedal too.

Thanks in advance for your attention,

My current setup :

Check the MIDI settings on the Tonex, too.

Try the old MIDI cable. Back in the dark ages (before MIDI), you could get  5 pin DIN cables for audio use. They're not wired the same a a MIDI cable, from what I remember. I'd be stunned if you've been sold one, but you never know.

After that I dunno - I've been using a MIDI controlled rack for decades, but other than setting the channels and whether programs start at 000 or 001, it didn't get any deeper than that.

Hi,

Have you checked the your "pre-owned" HXFX is running the latest firmware v.3.71 ? If not, it is strongly recommended that you update, as it not only does it contain extra /new effects, but also many unlisted bug fixes.

If it is already on v.3.71, then the usual approach to when things don't appear to be functioning correctly is to perform a Factory Reset to clear out any possible glitches.

To reset your unit make a backup of the contents of your HXFX using HX Edit v.3.70, then while turning on the power, hold down FS6 & Tap. When it is fully reset you can then restore all your stuff from the backup you made earlier, and it should go a process of rebuilding the presets. This is normal and it is done to upgrade all your presets to the latest format.

Hope this help/ makes sense.
