New HX Stomp XL freezing-Is this normal?

I've had an HX Stomp for about 4 years and love it. Last week I got an open box Stomp XL because I wanted the added foot switches (I got my Stomp like....2 months before XL came out). The unit appears to be in perfect condition, seems to work great, etc. However, I've run into issues when building presets where the unit will freeze requiring a power cycle. To the best of my knowledge, it seems to happen when I'm near maxing out the DSP and I maybe scroll too quickly through amp models. Never while playing or tweaking a model parameters. I THINK that's the only time it happens. I've used a OneSpot and the included PSU. I've never had the issue with my original Stomp, but I also don't think I've maxed it out the same way; I used it more as a magic Swiss Army knife multi-FX.

I plan to update the firmware again (it did ship with 3.71). I will also try to replicate the failure with the OG Stomp. In the meantime, does this sound like something normal; fast scrolling when DSP is maxed causing a crash? Or does it sound like I might have a faulty unit? Just want to know if it's 'user error' before I initiate an return.

It's a computer, and computers do weird $hit...that being said, whether it's something specific that you're doing to trigger it or not, I certainly wouldn't call it "normal". New firmware and/or a factory reset might solve the problem, or it might not. Either way, those are really the only options you have at your disposal. Give it a try and see if the issue persists. If not, problem solved....but if it still misbehaves then it's time for a service ticket.

I'm curious if you are using HX Edit when this happens.  For me HX Edit frequently crashes and I sometimes cannot even change my presets on my Helix after it's crashed.  I'm pretty sure a few times my Helix became completely unusable when I was building presets.  Simply re-opening HX Edit on my Mac makes everything go back to normal.  I do have pretty complicated presets, so maybe that's what trips up HX Edit.

I have been using my Helixes for almost 5 years, and both of them started doing this after I updated the firmware to 3.71. Until recently I was on 3.11 and it was extremely stable.

Also, if you bought your unit used, there could have been some presets with various issues.  So as was suggested, try the factory reset.
