notadeguitarra
Hey guys, how’s it going? I just came across this video where someone created a preset that’s really close to the sounds from Archetype Plini. I was pretty surprised at how similar it gets. Anyone else seen this? I’m curious what you all think, especially from those who’ve tried both.
silverhead
I haven’t tried both but I can make a more general comment that applies to all modellers, not just Helix. There are plenty of these videos around comparing the sound of different physical amps to the Helix sound. It seems clear to me, at least, that there is little if any perceivable difference when it comes to recorded sounds (which the video is), or the sound through an FRFR monitor or PA system. That’s what Helix is designed to do - model a mic’d amp and produce the sound that an audio engineer in a recording studio perceives. The sound difference becomes noticeable when you compare Helix to the so-called ‘amp in a room’. Unless you place your ears at a specific location in front of the cab speaker, as if you were a mic, there is an unavoidable difference due to physics. This can’t be replicated even with FRFR monitors. Some players want Helix to send exactly like their real amp when they are playing in the room. It will never do that, nor is it designed to do that. This should be stamped on the outside of the box... it would save some folks a bunch of money, and countless repetitive forum discussions. ;)
