I have to use "Line 6 Updater" for firmware updates using the files from here: https://line6.com/software/index.html

Huh?

I don’t understand what the problem is? It’s not complicated, and it has been this way since the start.

First go to the "DOWNLOADS" menu at the top of this page and select your HX unit from "-CHOOSE HARDWARE-“, then from under the "-CHOOSE SOFTWARE-" select HX Edit, now select your OS from under the "-CHOOSE OS-" tab, then click “GO”.

You should now be on the download page where you will find HX Edit 3.80, along with the “How to Update” instructions (please read) -  then click on the blue “GET DOWNLOAD” button.

On the next page agree to the EULA and wait for HX Edit to land in your downloads folder on your computer. Ensure that no other version of HX Edit is on your computer and run he installer. Just to make sure, restart your computer and HX device.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

select HX Edit, now select your OS

HX Edit 3.80 now requires MacOS Catalina, so if you have to update a device using an older Mac, you'd need Line 6 Updater.

Confusing, because as you are already aware, the D/L page for HX Edit states:-

Compatible OS: Mac OS X, macOS Sierra, macOS High Sierra, macOS Mojave, macOS Catalina, macOS Big Sur, macOS Monterey, macOS Ventura, macOS Sonoma, macOS Sequoia

Most strange - I haven’t run the update yet and I’m on Catalina - it remains to be seen what happens.

Neither have I.

At the moment I'm only playing an acoustic upright bass, and all I need on my Stomp for that is a parametric EQ and a gentle noise gate.
If I need the Stomp at all, that is… (In fact, all I need for band rehearsals at the moment is an "antique" Boss GE-10 EQ and an old powered Yamaha 12" PA box ;)
