HELP!! Helix Rack Version 2.12.0 Update 2024!!

Hi all, just bought a Helix Rack unit second hand and I'm unable to get it to register on HX Edit, Line 6 Updater or Line 6 Central.

Now I've already created a ticket with Line 6 and quick response from them but didn't solve the issue so still waiting to hear back but wondering if anyone on here has had a similar issue with any of there gear with outdated firmware??

I've done all the standard troubleshooting that I can think of - different leads, different computers running windows 10 and 11, tried downloading older versions of the updater and hx edit in case the old firmware was no longer picked up by latest updates, and of course followed the instructions from Line 6 support that they had suggested.

I've spent some time going through forums to see what other people have done with "similar" issues and haven't had any luck so far.

Any technical gurus out there that would like to throw around some ideas would be great, would really appreciate it.

Cheers in advance, Rob.

Not sure what you mean by ‘register’. To register your gear to your account for ownership purposes go to your Line 6 Account. Hit the Support link at the top of this page and then click on Register Gear at the bottom of the next page. If you can’t register it report that in your support ticket.

If you mean that HX Edit et al won’t recognize your device that indicates a USB connection issue. You will want to update your firmware so begin by downloading and installing the HX Edit package. Seems you have already done so, but start again at HX Edit v3.80. Run the installer package and download all components including the drivers. Then run HX Edit and log in to your Line 6 account within HX edit (see bottom left of HX Edit window: My Account). You should be notified that updates are available. Follow the prompts. Read the instructions carefully; updating from v2.20 may require updating twice; this is normal.

Cheers for your reply Silverhead. Sorry, misuse of words, did indeed mean that the helix is not being recognised when saying "register".

Everything you have said I have previously tried with absolutely no luck. It will not pick up through HX Edit or Line 6 Updater that the helix is connected, regardless of which version of HX Edit I have tried. (Downloaded earlier versions to see if the outdated firmware of the helix was no longer picked up on HX Edit v3.80)

If you have any more ideas of what it could possibly be I'm open to tryin anything, just don't have a clue where to go from here and havent had anything back from Line 6 Support.

Hi, Rob,

You say that you cannot get your HX Rack to connect over USB to update the firmware to v3.80.

Although you say that it is a pre-owned unit, you didn’t mention if you had ever been able to get it to hook up to your computer via USB. If you did have 2 way communication then it may be that it is a glitch. Also, you say you are using a Windows PC - some PC boxes have issues if the USB is using one of the ports on the front - if that’s the case, try patching the USB cable to one of the ports on the rear of the PC.

Also, if you had a problem trying to update from HX Edit and it failed, then HX Edit has to be completely shutdown before attempting to run the Line6 Updater or it will block the connection. Furthermore, you could try using Line 6 Central for the update as it supposed to be optimised for the purpose.

Anyhow, as you haven’t heard back from Customer Support (they are closed for Thanksgiving) try following the instructions in  the link posted below.

NOTE: HX Edit cannot connect to a HX device that is in a “Failed State”. Also there was a major update to the Helix Core in v2.80 firmware and you may experience the installation taking longer than expected and appearing to have failed part way through - this is normal and is mentioned in the firmware release notes.

Hope this helps/makes sense.
