djspleen
Does anyone still frequent these forums? Well I hope so...This issue is so strange I'm hoping someone out there can help me out. I recently acquired a JTV-59, and I've had an HD500X for years. I'm starting to setup some new tones to utilize the capabilities of the Variax. I created a tone that sounds fine when I double click on the HD Edit software, I save it to the HD500X, and everything copies over fine. But then when I tap the HD500X button it's assigned to (on the floor unit), it sounds different: noticeably quieter is the main issue, less gain may also perhaps be part of the problem When I switch between the two with the HD Edit software connected, I don't see any setting changing on any of the pages, but it's clearly doing something different between the two methods of arriving to that same patch. What the heck is going on?? Patch is attached. Tele-Dec2024.5xe
amsdenj
I would suspect there's something different in your monitoring signal chain when going through the HD500X, perhaps global EQ or something like that.
silverhead
The quieter, less gain symptom suggests a volume setting. Check the Vol Knob controller in the Variax settings for the preset. If it’s set to Don’t Force there might be something unusual going on as you switch among presets. Try setting this to a specific value and test again. When I use the hd editor I consider and use it as the main control center of the device and eventually I use the physical footswitches only to turn the effects on and off, never to select a patch. (Maybe this is why I have never had the problem you described). I use the footswitches to select patches only when the editor is off and in any case after the edited patches have been synced correctly. Another thing to consider is that as long as the POD is connected to a computer (with the editor active or not, doesn't matter) its global output volume is always dependent on the setting of the "hardware monitoring level" parameter (normally it should be set to maximum) in the Line6 audio driver control panel. Which thing obviously does not happen when the device is disconnected from the computer and independent. Another thing to check: is the installed editor version the right one? Each new firmware that has been released has always corresponded to a specific new editor version. If the correspondence is missing, anomalous behaviors can occur. Also be careful with patches maybe created with a different firmware and then imported into the editor and device. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
djspleen
Thanks all for the replies. Some things for me to check out, so hopefully one of them works for me. Much appreciated!!
djspleen
Ok, he's a better example of the same thing described above. I tweaked my non-Variax Plexi setting to create the attached patch (Variax Lester Plex). I was using it when I had the HD500X edit software attached (obviously, so I could create/edit it). So I saved it to the Pod, saved it to my hard drive, closed the edit software, pressed the footswitch...and.....WHAT the heck am I hearing? Not at all what I was expecting for sure. It's barely even in the same family of tones. Attached is a recording of what I heard. Similar to what I described above, when I use the mouse to double click the patch in the Edit software, it sounds like what I designed. When I push the footswitch (even when the unit is still connected to the edit software) it is a completely different sound. I don't even have anything included in that patch to make the reverb last that long. The attached mp3 starts off with the patch selected via edit software, then swaps between making the selection with the footswitch and then with the edit software. Regarding firmware, I don't know what firmware I had when I originally created the patch, but according to Monkey, I'm up to date with everything. hurghanico
Rather than checking for differences between just the editor pages when you change the way you select presets, you should check for differences between what you see in the editor and in the POD display. My suspicion is that the preset was not sent correctly to the device before trying the two different selection methods. (Are you sure you are using the right procedure to send the preset to the POD?). When you select via the footswitches the POD reads the preset saved in its memory and not the one you are still seeing in the editor, so if there are any differences between the two you will be hear them (differences which as I already said should be visible anyway between what you see in the editor and in the POD display). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
djspleen
Tonight when I plugged it in it worked fine with the new patch I saved to it last night. *shrugs* It's a Christmas miracle!
