Is your HX Stomp powered directly by the Line 6 power supply it came with? Is that connection secure? If not I would look at power supply rather than heat as the issue.

Probably a "not enough power" issue with the power supply. If the HX Stomp doesn't get enough current for a split second that can result in a crash or a reboot.

 

The HX Stomp draws about 900 mA at 9V. Your power supply therefore should at least provide 1000 mA (= 1 A).
