  1. Thanks for all the suggestions. I might try to level my current neck, but it seems hard. I suppose I can live with a different neck if it goes that route though. Anyone know if Warmoth can do a 24 fret strat style maple?
  2. I would need frets from 10 and up replaced, possibly leveled again to match the old frets.
  3. Ever since there was a small ding on a fret, I've been having problems trying to fix it out. I made that fret playable again, but it sacrificed having lower action on those strings. I could probably replace the neck but I thought it played amazingly before, and I kind of like the Variax and Line 6 decals on the headstock to show it's a Variax.
  4. I honestly think there might me stuff in my guitar causing it to have slight buzz problems, How do I remove it safely to do so?
  5. Congrats I suppose. Sorry you can't work with the Variax. I suggest still messing with workbench. Do remember you can never really nail a tone exactly. There's too much variables when it comes to that. You can get close, that's what the Variax is there for, but remember, not every guitar is the same, even people with Variaxes sometimes note differences because of physical variables that come into play, even when their guitar is set up properly.
  6. Really? Voted down for the option to turn those off? I know that the strat is emulating an old strat that probably doesn't have heat shrink tubes on the springs, but there's always the possibility of modding the guitar to do such, and just wanting a strat sound in general without it. Another thing to consider is the fact you might have a 69 or an old Variax which already has a tremolo with springs, so why double the emulation when it's already there? They should really try to work on guitar neutrality between the Variax models.
  7. Any way I can get a replacement neck for my 600? From line 6 or from someone with a spare neck somehow?
  8. Oh thank you, I was trying to find that again. It's a great example. Your recordings are definitely enough quack for me, so I'm not sure what the frustration is. Maybe some people have modeling errors on their Variax?
  9. Are nuances still emulated, like the Bigsby tone when you hit an E chord and kill it, The strat tremolo springs ringing (Why would you emulate this though? I don't get it. No one wants this), Sitar sympathetic strings? In a video, Rich Renken explained some of this with the old Firmware (This also is emulated on Gen 1 Variaxes) I'd hope they'd still do this, though it would be nice to have an option to toggle some of these in Workbench, especially the strat springs. I remember enabling alt tunings in workbench even without changing the tuning from standard would turn these features off, but this was my 600 (Possibly to conserve DSP processing to alt tunings)
  10. Ok, so looking at videos, this is my opinion: The beginning of this video shows old firmware vs JTV 69 pickups https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O6v3_guDSk This has new firmware vs JTV 69 pickups http://youtu.be/PIaYGYtJW5g?t=1m40s Old firmware sounds very muffles, but the tone doesn't seem too different underneath. New firmware has more clarity in the high ends. The tone is mildly different though. It sounds like a Strat. I can get why people complain about it, it can be alienating after using the old spank models. I don't think it's bad though. Perhaps they could of used a different strat to model after? Something that's more closer to the generic Strat sound. Both have their advantages over another. If I have a JTV I could probably live with the strat model. If you guys are extremely concerned, the only thing I can suggest is to ask Line 6 to try to add another Strat model, maybe that maple neck model? If there's enough room in the flash memory, then surely it's time to start asking for some more guitars on the roster. SG, Jaguar, Jazzmaster, Lace Sensor pickups, EMG/Active pickups. Cmon, it would be lovely.
  11. I really don't get what's lacking in the new Strats. Each strat isn't going sound exactly the same, and a lot of the Variax models use more vintage guitars than modern guitars I believe.
  12. Cool, yeah yeah, rollback to 1.9. Can someone tell me what isn't good about the strat besides the fact that you don't like the tone? Is it more realistic or not, because from what I've heard I thought it was more spot on? Can someone do an A/B of the strat model and a strat?
  13. Yeah, Please don't abuse the term "troll" in place of subtle off topic talk. None of use really know why the prices might be dropping, There was nothing I could reply to in your post besides your typo or whatever, and it was a joke, not hostile.
  14. Could you make the knob changes refer to default patches with a POD instead of going to the patched with a POD footswitch? Would be nice if you want to use the pickup selector with those banks instead of using the foot switch.
  15. If a POD can make a Variax select factory presets, could it be possible to make it select defaults without one? You'd think this would be a great feature, like if the model knob was a push-pull.
  16. All Variaxes electronics are removable. 600 requires removing the pickguard.
  17. I agree. Variax seems to make this more predominant.
  18. I switched to elixir polywebs 10's 1.5 months ago and am probably sticking to it for the following reasons: -I kill strings within less than a week -Variax sounds 2-3 times worse with dead strings than a regular guitar with dead strings -Elixirs sound exactly the same as a recording I took of them on day 1 after the 1.5 months Whatever strings works best for you though, you should keep. I simply use Elixirs because I have a serious problem with rusting and making strings dead within a few days, just something I can't deal with.
  19. That sounds like heaven. Elixirs on a graphtech Variax. Man, I wish I had money and equipment to switch out the saddles on my Variax.
  20. I have a 600. I'm having awful tuning problems to the point of not being able to use it at all. Can you do both trem action and string bends and keep in tune? That's the biggest issue I have, the other being that the strings can go flat after using a trem. I'm considering switching the nut to a graphtech someday later, would that help?
  21. Woah, dynamics sound a lot different. Thank you so much for the demonstrations!
