  1. For me the solution was to use a laptop that didn't have company lock-down software on it. I switched to my own laptop which didn't have anything checking on the USB ports, rebooted it and only opened the Line 6 software needed to update, nothing else. Although the company laptop would update some things, it timed out on others.
  2. What was odd is that other updates like firmware and hdedit, worked fine on that laptop.
  3. I switched to a windows 8.1 laptop, rebooted and launched Monkey and everything worked. The other laptop was windows 7 and is my company laptop with various things locked down. The usb ports work but are probably limited in some way for security.
  4. Yes, I'm not raving about the song, just looking for that really smooth tone with sustain. I know the guitar is a big part of the equation and I'm usually playing a Carvin AE185 which has both humbuckers and an acoustic bridge with piezo, but once I have a rough idea of the amp/effects I can tweak it.
  5. Everybody has an opinion :D This is probably close to some of the Santana patches over in Custom Tone, but just thought I'd ask. Sometimes you need something smoother than shred.
  6. Suggestions on HD500x patch? In the video he's using a Gretch. https://youtu.be/ZGoWtY_h4xo?t=166
  7. I think that's the order. It means setting both delays for the BPM being used so I've created a preset for that, assigning both to footswitches so on other songs I can leave the 1/4 delay on when the dot eighth isn't appropriate. Android app: Echolalia Delay Calc https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monkeyhouse.delaycalculator&hl=en
  8. I have a patch doing this now with both delays after the AC30 amp. Seems fine, but was wondering if I should have a parallel path rather than one delay feeding into the other ( if that is actually what happens with just one signal path
  9. I have a ticket open on this Ticket ID 254554 Support wanted a screen shot of monkey. Currently monkey shows only flash memory and now hDedit out of date since there is new software out there in the last two days. Flash is 1.32 but should be updated to 2.62. USB firmware is current at 1.04 Drivers are current at 4.2.7.1 HDEdit is 2.25 but can now be updated to 2.26 Not touching it until after tomorrow's gig
  10. I'd like to buy a spare/backup power supply but would rather not spend the $50 for the Line 6 OEM. Apparently it needs to put out 3000 milliamps.
  11. Monkey still shows the flash as needing an update but everything else is current. The vintage HD pack I just bought a few days ago is now in the POD and available. I may try updating the flash using that reset/safe mode approach but not until after this weekend's gig. Although I saved off all of my presets, and specified overwrite them in the POD during the updating, they're still in the POD so I guess that overwrite happens only when the flash actually gets updated. I think what gets overwritten are the original patches plus User1 and User2 so if I rename my main setlist from User1 to say, Randy, would those be left alone during a flash update? 1.32 was the latest flash file available for download yesterday.
  12. Same problem here. I'll try that solution
  13. Bought it. Got them installed along with firmware updates but the latest flash update times out
  14. Tried that, same result. This HP EliteBook is less than a year old so should be fast enough.
  15. I updated everything ( monkey, license manager, usb firmware and hdedit, but the 2.61 version of flash memory times out. Rolled back to the previous one. ?? I also downloaded the flash file and tried it that way, but same result.
  16. thanks, probably worth trying in my hd500x
  17. I'm just wondering if anyone is finding this worth the $49 Mainly interested in clean to slightly overdriven rhythm sounds for Worship music.
  18. I'm going to have to test both the single xlr out and the single 1/4 out to see if there is any noticeable difference in a live band situation. As far as the Art SplitCom Pro 2 Way Mic Splitter / Combiner I'm not sure how that reduces the amount of wear and tear on the POD's xlr jack, unless you just leave something plugged into that jack all the time, in which case it might be harder to get the POD into its travel case.
  19. The only purpose of the noise gate is to sum everything to a mono out because on the HD500x the xlr outs are separate left and right. I'm not using the noise gate to reduce noise, at all, nada.
  20. The title summarizes it and forgive me for covering old ground. Does this sound correct? Let's assume for my purposes there are advantages to using the XLR over 1/4 out, and I will never run both left and right out -- only using one PA channel direct. Also assume I'll never use a stereo effect and will always put a noise gate as the last effect with 100% decay and 0% threshold ( unity gain mono summing ). Finally the mixer for the xlr not in use will be muted and input 1 set to guitar, input 2 to variax. Any loss of gain/db doesn't seem to be an issue for me at home running into a stereo receiver with speakers and I doubt it would be at church with a fairly large, quality PA system. If I do run this way I might want to consider a short xlr male to female adapter so the xlr out on the POD isn't suffering a lot of wear over time.
  21. ok, so the Blues Brothers use XLR out?
  22. Running only one xlr out to a single PA channel? I've read that even with non-stereo effects like analog chorus you can lose one side of the signal since the XLR outs don't sum to mono. The most common suggestion is to put a noise gate at the end of your effects with decay at 100% and threshold zero to pass the single to xlr out as mono. But that has to be done for each patch.
  23. well that didn't work. The document is here4: http://line6.com/support/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=774
  24. I'll try the single xlr out and add a noise gate at the end since I only use 4 or 5 patches.
