I'm finding the volume level on the TB, everything else equal, to be quite a bit more than the new Fawn models. So much so that to keep similar volumes when switching from a TB patch to a Fawn patch I had to put a boost or compressor with level control up front to keep signal to the PA close. Is that expected? Other than that both of the Fawn models seemed to have less high frequency than the TB. Out of the box the Fawn models needed some tweaking ( treble/presence/EQ ) to avoid being buried in the mix.

The DT amplifier ( Class, Topology, Mode ) ?

When you are using a regular guitar, amp model and no Link/midi etc, does the DT ( Bogner ) amp shown in HDEdit do anything?

Calibrated volume pedal to control amp channel volume

I'm afraid you're absolutely right about the sound guy. Looks like its back to the negotiating table for me. -
Calibrated volume pedal to control amp channel volume
Indianrock2020 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
Pianoguyy, I hear what you're saying and I know many praise/worship players who attend to their tone and chops and leave FOH mix to the sound people. I respect that, but time is precious. If the guitar is truly not needed, I can find something else to do. :-) In our case I feel that efforts to influence the music leader and other sound guys have run their course. I do sound here once or twice a month and make sure ( without sacrificing the overall sound and importance of vocals ) that the electric guitars are heard, at least when important. I ride the faders. -
The pdf I attached on how frequencies relate to POD eq effect percentages came from someone on this forum. The web site where specific changes were suggested for guitar was probably this one, but they are easy to find if you google "guitar frequencies to cut" http://www.audio-production-tips.com/guitar-frequency.html

Calibrated volume pedal to control amp channel volume
Indianrock2020 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
Sounds like could achieve my purpose either way, as long as I don't do both. In our church world, with volunteer sound people, there is absolutely no guarantee your guitar is going to be audible in the mix. So, unfortunately, I need to go through sound check with the volume pedal, say, half-way down. To be safe though I'm going to need an extra guitar cord so I can get out and hear FOH. I'm not trying to blast everybody, just not willing to put in the time unless the guitar is actually making a contribution. As far as volume swells ( and ambient sounds ) , it seems everyone in the church is world is trying to make their electric guitar sound like keyboard pads, so I don't need to add to that stampede. We already have a keyboard player who does that well. -
Calibrated volume pedal to control amp channel volume

Ha ha. Yes but I'm controlling volume without putting a volume control in the effects block by tying the amp channel volume to the expression pedal. So what is the advantage or reason for a VP in the effects block? -

So why would you use a VP as an effect bock? -
Seems the opinions about where to cut or boost vary widely. One "mxing" web site had this info, which I converted to POD percentages for use in EQs. Goal Cut or Boost Frequency Percent on pod More bottom 150 boost 17 muddy 200 cut 23 fullness 250 – 500 boost 27-40 boxy 500-800 cut 39-48 honk 1k cut 52-53 presence 2k boost 69-70 hiss/fizz 4k cut or at least don't boost 94-95 Parametric EQ Frequency.pdf POD_EQ_Frequency_Percentages.xlsx

Calibrated volume pedal to control amp channel volume
Indianrock2020 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
Thanks Radatats. I'll try that. This is another reason why I tell everyone looking at pedal boards to NOT get a POD unless they are willing to read and tweak. I like doing those things but, as we know, many just want to reach down and twist a knob on a pedal. ( never mind that they may need to reach for that knob during a song ) -
Calibrated volume pedal to control amp channel volume
Indianrock2020 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
No volume swells. I just want to be able to boost my volume into the PA by 20% or so at some times. I just tried the pedal at the end of the chain and it still seems like it goes from very low to 100% with not much in between. I can see the amp channel volume knob move as I work the volume pedal -- just not what I'm expecting at all. I tried setting the volume pedal at Min: 80% Max:100% Min: 50% Max: 100% and Min: 0% Max: 100% Not sure what else to try other than tying the VP to something other than amp volume like an EQ or compressor. Its not working like the guitar volume knob that's for sure. The VP is calibrated from 0 to 255 as described in this video https://youtu.be/txAxDa7n6M4 -
I calibrated my volume pedal. Now I've tied it to the channel volume of the AC30 amp. With minimum at 80% and max at 100% there is almost no change in volume until the pedal is most of the way down. Duh: I have the volume pedal as the first effect in the chain. It should be near the end, or at least after the amp, right? In most old-style pedal boards you find the volume pedal first. How would I set the volume pedal to actually control volume if not tied to the amp channel volume?

500x Using looper or tone generators to adjust settings
Indianrock2020 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
Yes I've noticed how ears get tired and hear things so differently from one hour to the next in the same room with the same setup. I'm trying to adjust things while playing through a full-range stereo system in an attempt to mimic as closely as possible what my patch will sound like with the band through a PA. -
Bjnette -- that is helpful. I go for attenuating brittleness and honk in pretty well most amps. I find around 5k has the brittle, dead on 2k the harsh and 400hz the honk in most amps. I say about as is varies slightly but enough of the amps smooth out nicely with a little dip, not too narrow Q at about those frequencies. I don't have the 5150 model but you guys can talk about it if you want :-) So far I'm using AC30 more than anything else for the music I play.

Peter Hanmer has a good series here http://www.peterhanmer.co.za/line6.htm -- video #2 shows how to use one or two parametric EQs to find and cut offensive frequencies. He does it by boosting gain in the parametric, raising Q to a narrow band, then sweeping the frequency to find the one to cut. Sometimes he does this with two parametrics to cut two frequency ranges. I've been using this with the looper but may try setting the gain really low in the parametric and sweeping for the sweet spot. So far I often find two frequency ranges I don't like in a mildly overdriven rhythm loop. What have you found as far as offensive frequencies to cut with 1) single coils and 2) humbuckers? Of course since the POD shows frequency as a percentage we have to link that to any actual frequencies suggested here.

500x Using looper or tone generators to adjust settings
Indianrock2020 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
I'll try it again, but it seemed that the loop recorded in 'pre' was not changing during playback as I tweaked the preset until I flipped the loop playback to post. I was hearing realtime changes as I tweaked things in HDEdit so I shouldn't need to restart the loop playback after every change. -
500x Using looper or tone generators to adjust settings
Indianrock2020 replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
Tried it this morning. So record a loop in PRE mode with no effects, then play back in looper Post mode so effects you add will affect the loop. I think you need to start and stop and restart the playback of the loop and possibly send changes from hdEdit to the POD so that each change you make is reflected in what you're hearing. -
I'm trying to get a sensible approach to dialing in the many amp/cab/eq settings. There are many frequency and noise generators out there, but using my own guitar signal with the looper seems like it would be best. I think I would want the loop to record in "pre" mode so when playing back, effects would be added to an unprocessed guitar signal. I'm tempted to listen to my loop and tweak through headphones, but suspect that listening through some full range speakers would be more realistic. PRE (FS3 switch light is Off): Your guitar signal is recorded unprocessed (i.e. - the Loop is recorded “pre†Amp & FX processing). When played back, the Loop audio is mixed with incoming guitar to feed the current Preset’s Amp & FX processing. If you change Presets or tone settings while set to PRE, you’ll hear them applied to your Loop playback. http://onlinetonegenerator.com/432Hz.html

I've downloaded many patches for my 500x and had very good luck. For this new vintage amp I thought I'd try creating a patch. If you have time take a look at this -- I'm definitely not through with it. The order of the effects may not even be right. Looking for a mildly crunchy rhythm tone on single-coil pickups. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/977325/ Boost Comp>Volume Pedal>Noise Gate>amp>mixer>Digital Delay (off)>Analog Delay w/mod> Room reverb>Graphic EQ The amp is set fairly middle-of-the-road except presence and mids reduced some. Shure 57 off axis on 2x12 Blackface cab with low cut brought up some and Res Level reduced some. I don't even use the volume pedal so far, just keep it all the way down.
-
How are you setting up the Pete Andersen? I really liked the driven sound out of it the one time I tried it. It would be nice to have it as a dirty 2nd amp in a cleaner patch, maybe with an AC30, then set the expression pedal to toggle between the amps.
-
Thanks, so preset selection is identical regardless of FS1-8 or ABCD mode, its just that 5,6,7,8 revert to fx selections once a preset is locked in. Seems like there would be a mode where "bank down" or "bank up" takes you directly to the next preset with one click.
-
Slight deviation: I just switched back to FS1-8 mode and notice that you "bank up or down" then still hit FS 5,6,7 or 8 to get your preset. I'm assuming once the preset is locked in, FS5-8 resume any fx assignments you have.
