I had that problem a few times and toggled the channel switch and it was resolved.

The only midi commands I set are for setting the amp model and then disabling the preamp. I pretty much use the same power amp setting to keep volume consistency. Just those two parameters have made an enviable rig. So many usable amp sounds on the helix with the DT power amp pushing it. Really excited to be able to ditch the midi cable and get expanded capabilities. The rest is icing but then again I haven’t researched the other pending functionality to any depth. I only read the 1st 5 pages at the TGP thread. Exciting times for Helix users and doubly so for DT enthusiasts. Cheers!

I used my HD 500 for months without the cap and it worked fine. It was only one day when I was setting up for live when I touched the power supply accidentally to the exposed USB and fried it. They really should make caps you can stick in there.

I guess I am the only DT/Helix user.

My google search for a TGP thread for those afflicted as I turned up nothing of significance.

I'd love a link there.

...for the new update? I finally pulled the trigger last month when a friend of mine had a brand new Helix Floor and took my offer of $800. I had great results with the HD500x/DT combo since 2010, but the learning curve was quite steep and drawn out. It's so easy to get great sound with the Helix/DT and a little midi knowledge. Anyway....am I the only one?

Enjoyed this thread very much. I wish there were more DT/Helix users who put stuff out or shared. I get great results but....I feel so alone!

The more I think about that… The more I’d love to hear it. Might have to get the humbucker one.

Been there!

What surprises me especially is how the helix seems to be tweaked for stage volume versus bedroom. I didn’t have to tweak much for alive and I didn’t tweak much when I set them up at home. Even though things sounded a bit dark . I’m in love… Can you tell?

I got my helix about a week and a half ago and learned a little midi to get it working with my DT 50 thanks to @sadrian . I use a EVH Wolfgang and slapped the Strato IR in the chain with an EQ I had been using prior to the IR to accentuate a strats output curve and attenuate frequencies that were boosted by my humbucker pickups. Played a gig on Saturday night and I felt like the changes were subtle but significant. This compared to the HD 500 I was using prior that I always was majorly complemented on and really pleased with. Everything felt just right and cut through better than ever before. Then a friend of mine asked if he could try it and I allowed him to. LOL So I got to step away and hear it and it was inspiring. Then I ran him through all my presets that used the impulse response. I was floored. At stage volume I can only describe what I heard as near perfection. In fact I couldn’t think of anything that was needed or missing. My buddy comes to me after word and says something we’ve all heard once or twice… “This thing plays itself“ Inspiring tone that drove some incredible improvisation that night. I will be getting the Les Paul and telecaster IR next.

Coil split humbuckers seemed a more authentic option to slapping a strat IR in your signal chain.
-
Yeah something like that. It's worth trying for the price but there is a comp video on YT and split definitely won over this product. Based on what you're looking for.... I would recommend....a Variax. LOL Seriously though...I was about to butcher some of my guitars (and none of them are cheap)...and I'm satisfied with these as a solution for live purposes.

I gigged yesterday with the Strato MN 1. Previously I had an eq that was decent but this is an improvement. I had used a side by side of a strat's EQ output and my EVH Wolfgang's and created an EQ so I could get the Wolfgang in the ....Strato-sphere so to speak. It sounded good from U2 Streets to Dire Straits...but this was a marked improvement over just an EQ. So it's got some mojo happening. ...but the IR doesn't transform your guitar or replace the output. It's definitely more of a filter. A really good AND COOL one, @themetallikid . At least that's how I see it and quite what I expected.

Just got the Strato. They come in sample rates up to 96. I know Helix supports 96. Will the various sample rates affect performance? Which one do most people use? I'm using it for live purposes if that matters. Thanks.

Based on your description this is exactly why I love the DT and what I like about the HD and (now confirmed) Helix with DT combo. I'm sold and very appreciative to your feedback. Thank you!
-
Dude! Thank you. I'm sold and thanks for clarifying. It seems with a little know how you can surpass the HD with exception of the amp/HD control integration. So if you prefer the DT's pre-amps over the Helix and HD....Why do you love the Helix? Just for the limitless other options over the HD's somewhat limited options? My main questions are answered. I just want to know why you like it so much. I'm already sold. Thank you so much! OH wait!: Do you have to change any of the amp settings manually from the amp?: Class, Pentode/Triode, I-II-III-IV
-
@sadrian thanks so much for your generosity. With the L6 + midi, are you able to put effects behind the amp? Delay for instance? I guess what I am asking is with the midi control and L6 are you getting the same virtual options the HD w' L6 gives you?

I've been offered a Helix in the box by a friend for $800. I get great sound with my 500x and DT50. Should I make the switch? I'd love to hear everybodys' thoughts. Especially given the new update.

@psarkissian can you review this when you get a second and tell me your thought. It’s pretty odd.
-
Mine's been working fine ever since. I was hoping the ever-present guru would give me some feedback. Thanks again.
-
So what was the outcome?
-
Oddly, I used it twice since without any issue. Thanks for your time by the way.
