It is so simple it's crazy. From previous posts I had already purchased an m-audio midi device to upgrade the DT25. Using DT Edit - just turn off everything in channel B (previous posts). I have never used a midi cable in my life. I bought one and I figured out how to do it in about 5 minutes without getting the Helix manual out. You most likely will need the DT25 Midi guide - page 2.2. You go to command center and program the first midi command to the desired typology. The command is 122 then the next block in the command you put in 4,5,6 or 7 for Channel B voicing that you want. It works great evertime. I'm still learning all this stuff so if I can do anyone can. I've had the Helix about 3 weeks now. I haven't used it live yet but will very soon. I play at a church so no stage volume and run in ear monitors and everything is through a PA. Running a real cab and micing it is not a good option for me right now. So everything I do is coming back from the amp to the Helix (FX loop) and then will go back out of the XLR to the PA. Here is what I found in a SHORT time and still learning - some amps sound great with the preamp and the DT. Some amp models sound great with the full amp model and the DT. To my very pleasant surprise - many of the Helix amp models sound fantastic without the DT as well. So I envision running the DT with the FX loop for some songs in a particular set - while bypassing the DT all together and running just direct amp models from the Helix for some songs in a set. FYI - I've had the PODHD for about 5 years - It's awesome but I'm not going back either.

Ok. I realize now that the DT master is before the FX loop. I would guess then the master is set then at 100% and the DT master just pulls the signal back. Am I right - 100%? That'll be fine by me if that's true. I usually set the master at about 3 o clock. The more I learn about this setup the realize the less I know!!

Hey guys things seem to be working better - I'm still confused a bit with the setup. I totally understand why the tone controls don't work (drive channel volume, etc.) b/c with this setup I'm by passing the modeled preamp on the DT25. Why would the DT Master be off as well?? That doesn't make sense to me. Shouldn't the DT master still work? When I turn the DT master all the way down it sounds exactly the same as if I turn the DT master all the way up. If I put it on standby (with the mix on the return at 100%) then after a about 3 seconds the signal is cut out entirely. The patch looks like simply - these are the blocks on the signal chain: amp/preamp -> Fx Send1 -> Fx Return1 from the amp -> IR -> Reverb. Should I have the FX send and FX return right next to each other?? Total newbie question. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'll look through the Helix forums when I get a chance but what does the mix on Return1 actually do?? It seems at 100% it takes all the return volume and nothing else. If it is zero it takes none - seems that it is blending the pre FX signal and return FX signal. Make sense to have that 100% to get all of the power amp??

I just tried it again. Works perfectly. No idea about last night!! Thanks. I think the RC return signal was really soft - so I had to boost it and turn the mix up. Thanks guys - sounds great by the way.

Thanks guys. I thought I did what ricksteruk said. I'll try again later tonight or tomorrow. For some reason I couldn't get it to work. Maybe I had the FX send block and Fx return block in the wrong place in the signal chain?? I was using my headphones. Could that be the problem?? I wonder if headphones won't here the FX loop?? But I doubt it. Thanks guys - I think I'm probably missing one step somewhere - thanks for your help.

I just got the Helix yesterday and I still haven't figured out how to do anything with DT. Can someone help me out? I want to run something like this if possible: Guitar -> Helix effects pre amp (compression, etc.) ->Helix Models (pre or full) -> Post FX stuff (delay, etc) -> run it out to the DT25 power section - > to Rockcrusher line out - back to Helix for IRs, etc. then out to the PA. Where do I put the FX send and returns - why can't I hear the DT through my headphones as I turn up the master? I'm totally lost with this and ready to throw in the towel. I thought I could use an Fx Send from the Helix to FX return on the amp and then have the Rockcrusher act as load box and take the direct line out of the Rockcrusher back to the Helix Return1 to be sent out to PA - What am I missing?? I'm totally lost. Should I use the 1/4' out of Helix to FX Return on the amp?? Will I still be able to have another output to a PA?? I tried the Line6 link but getting nothing through my headphones - How would get signal back from the Rockcrusher to Helix. Ok - There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious clue. I'm totally missing something here. Please help.

I just got my Helix last night. It was at firmware 1.06 or something like that. Do I have to do all the firmware updates (1.10 then 1.12, etc.) in order or can I skip to the last 1.12 one and just do that one?

Ok. Thanks. Totally over my head. I'll assume return is line level too. I shouldn't then have an issue. Thanks!!

Hey thanks. I totally don't understand. The rockcrusher on the back says 560 ohms. That would still be line level - correct?? I'd set the Helix to instrument for return1?? Or is it mic level?? No idea what I'm doing here on this aspect. My helix will arrive on Thursday - been doing a ton of reading and getting ready. Thank you very much.

Guitar to Helix Gtr in -> Helix Send1 to Plexi Return -> Plexi speaker out to Reactive Load speaker in -> reactive load line out to Helix RETURN1 In this scenario does any one know the impedance resistance of the Helix Return1?? I have a Rockcrusher Recording with a line out of 560 Ohms - other on the market like the Suhr Reactive Load (mentioned in this thread) has a line out of 10,000 Ohms. A friend told me that the input impedance (Helix) should be close or match the output impedance resistance (loadbox). True?? Does that matter and is the Helix able to accommodate both 560 & 10,000?? I have very little understanding of this sort of thing. Any help is very much appreciated.

Does anyone know the Helix Input Line Level Impedance resistance level?? I think I am asking the question correctly. I was just talking with a friend of mine who is a sound guy. The Rockcrusher Recording has a 560 Ohm Line Level Output Impedance. I believe some other load boxes (Suhr reactive load) is set to 10,000 Ohm line level output impedance. What would the Helix's be set at and can I in the global settings adjust that?? My understanding (which is not much) is that for the best results you are going to want to match closely the output impedance with the input impedance. Anyone have any insight on this?? I checked the manual but couldn't find it. thanks!!
-
Gotcha. I should be good using the 1/4 line out back to Hekix and not speaker line out. Thanks!!
-
What does this mean?? Will the rockcrusher take the amp load down to a safe line level to put back in the Helix?? Thanks!!
-
Would this work going into a PA instead of a DAW (computer, etc.)?? I would want to come out of the Helix to amp head to rockcrusher recorder back to Helix at line level - add IRs or other effects and then go out the Helix to the PA. Possible??
-
This is exactly what I'm looking to do. I'm glad it works. Excited to get the Helix and try it out??
-
I don't own the Helix so this is all pre-purchase at this point. I'll try the Helix direct. I'm sure that will be awesome. I envision using the DT25 power section (disabiling the mics, models, reverbs, etc. on the DT) with the tubes. Seems like a good idea to have an amp that changes topologies and Class A or AB depending on the modeled amp. Obviously, time would tell if that is worth the extra effort. I'd hate to not use the DT - that amp sounds and feels really really good. I love that amp - but as you know - always trying to get better!
-
The reason for the question is I have trouble working on tones with family/kids in the house due to volume. With the Helix going out to amp (load box) and back for cab sims/IR then out to the board seems to be a really good fit for me. Sounds like the the phones (in my ears) would be a much closer representation of what the PA would get then the PODHD and DT. We have in ears monitors and PA - I know it won't be the same but easier for me to get close at home. B/c of stage volume I don't mic a cab - I've always come straight out of the DT line out. Make sense?? Thanks guys.
-
Absolutely! I envision using the DT as the power amp section with either running a clean AB top I or matching the amp type. I also envision dual amp tones - one with DT (back to Helix) and one with all Helix amp models going to the board. Seems the possibilities are endless.
-
Can you get a good feel for tone - tone creation - with the headphone jack on helix - while using an external amp head (DT25 for example) and load box?? I would use the tone without cab and run it into the PA. I don't have Helix yet - trying to decide to take the plunge. Thanks!
-
Very cool. What about a DT path with an amp and a separate path with a full helix model and run those to the board - dual amp - one DT and one not?? Seems possible.
-
I guess the magic is the paths. Would it matter if path "b" for the electric tones went to an outside amp and back and path "a" for acoustic sounds went only through helix (no external amp) to the PA?? For someone who uses a P22 or something like that this would be huge!!
-
Ok. With your setup if I set the DT25 (via m audio midi and leave it) channel A topology III - to Class A topology III then my Vox patches I would just send there - correct?? If I set the dt25 channel A topology I to Class AB topology I then I'd send my fender amps there - correct?? So the midi from helix to DT25 wouldn't "change" anything - I would just have it set up before hand.
