  1. Yep that's the one - thanks. I did fix it with hard global reset (5&6), hopefully Line 6 dev will be able to address it in a future update.
  2. Helix Floor Firmware 2.81 Upgraded direct from 2.71 about 5 gigs ago. The previous gigs on 2.81 went fine but tonight something went very wrong. Booting went straight to snapshots mode (I don't use snapshots) and there was no way to return to my patches . The 'cancel' option was displaying on the mode button which should have taken me back to my patches, but it didn't do anything, nor did pressing both bank buttons together which also should have returned to patches. I checked globals, tried setting to 8 presets (usually use stomp/preset) and also tried changing setlist to FACTORY 1 (to rule out a problem with my user patches). I rebooted about 10 times but there was no way out of snapshots view. The only way I could save the gig was when I discovered if I use the bank button it would allow me to select a patch, but once selected it goes straight back to snaps view and then I had to press bank down twice to get it back to the same row of patches, and I had to do this for the rest of the night with every patch change. Resetting globals (5&6) and the issue appears to be gone which suggests a bug or some corruption of the settings, even if the globals had been changed (which were definitely not changed by me since the previous gig 2 days earlier) , I should have been able to toggle back to patches by pressing bank up/down at the same time, or cancel (which the mode button was displaying), plus I checked globals several times and it was definitely still set to stomp/preset. I also think my sound was affected, very harsh like pad was turned off even though it said it was on in global settings.

  4. Hi, I have an L3m that I use as a monitor for my HD500x, the last couple of gigs I noticed it was unusually hot when I unplugged at the end of the night. I have not had any sound related issued and it was performing normally, but it was worryingly hot... I listened carefully with my ear to the fan vent and could not hear the fan running so got it home for a better look... I opened the back and sure enough the fan wasn't spinning even when I let it get pretty hot again. I took the fan out and connected it to a variable power supply, and it operates as it should increasing in speed between around 5v up to 12v, so the problem is not the fan itself. When I put a meter on the fan connection on the board, it measures between around 5v up to 12v depending on how hot the unit is getting, so that's also correct behaviour, however when I connect the fan to the board it straight away drops voltage at the fan to about 1.5v and the fan doesn't turn. So, it seems that the supply to the fan drops under load (no amps?). I'm no electronics engineer but I know just enough to get this far... Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas? It's out of warranty so I've spoken to a local repair shop who have said that they would probably find a 12v source on the board and wire the fan into that so that it will be on full speed all the time... I'd obviously prefer it repaired properly so it's not always at full fan noise, but is this a reasonable solution? Also I should mention that the front LED is on white, but also there is a red light on too which I assume has something to do with temperature. I know ehen the red light flashes it has something to with limiting, bu this is a steady red light together with the white light. As I said the performance of the unit has not been compromised .. I'm lucky it hasn't fried itself yet and that I noticed the problem in time! Thanks for any ideas :)
  5. Thanks.. I think that will have to be the answer... i.e. pod xlr to FOH and pod 1/4" to the L3m with a volume pedal between ... shame because the output over the L6 link is considerably higher gain. The loss of digital signal over L6 to change speaker modes won't matter as they are all set to reference / PA mode anyway, still would love to have had a volume control on the front of the speaker where I could get to it!
  6. Thanks - but it's not so much a volume war, the band is generally pretty good at not doing that. Sometimes it's the venue acoustics that change drastically as it fills up, and the soundie can compensate FOH, and sometimes it's a mixture of just getting it wrong / ear fatigue etc, but if our original stage volumes aren't cutting it then a nudge may be required to fuel my mojo! That doesn't affect the others too much with my L3m as a floor wedge, but it's not easy as explained in my post. Hoping that someone can share ideas how to make it easier!
  7. Hi, I'm using an HD500x into an L3m (via the L6 connector) for my stage monitor, and send a feed to FOH from the 'mix out' xlr on the back of the L3m. I setup with levels around 50% on main volume from HD500, and soundcheck etc, but once we're live I don't really want to touch my output volume for fear of getting a smack from our soundie! If I need more (or very occasionally less) stage volume I use the volume knob on the back of the speaker, which is near impossible to get to while playing, and even between songs is a right bugger to get access, plus then I've lost my reference volume anyway and it's a bit of guesswork on the knob. So I'm thinking maybe it's better to give the FOH a send direct from the HD500 and not the speaker (although the signal is much hotter from the L3m), and then put a volume foot pedal between the HD500 and the L3m... but not sure if I can do this because it carries digital info as well. Has anyone else come across this? What do you guys do? Thanks Simon
  8. Well I went for the L3m, will I ever regret not having the built in mixer, I dunno, but I've not needed one to date, I don't sing or play solo gigs. There's always the band mixer I could grab if it comes up. Thanks for you replies and looking forward to my delivery... takes about 2 weeks usually (to Cyprus). Cheers Simon.
  9. Thanks BucF16, that's useful info. So you're saying that the L2 shouldn't have any volume issues cutting through the band even when not going through PA? I'm not sure if the HD500X has any advantage over the HD500 in terms of what you've experienced with tone, so I'm still undecided! When my amp was in for repair I borrowed a Yamaha 12" FRFR unit for a couple of weeks (can't remember the model number) and loved it - with a bit of tweaking in the global settings of the pod it was way better than my Fender Frontman 2x12 tranny in terms of tone and headroom. Yeah I know ideally a monitor should be in front facing back for all the right reasons, but I prefer the familiar punch in the back of an amp behind me, also as our other guitarist has his Marshall behind him (as you'd expect) our soundie compensates by panning us to factor in our 'amps'. It is something I'd try again though. While I'm here, is there an opinion on connectivity.. i.e. I currently connect the pod's unbalanced left output to my amp's main input, and the pod's XLR left output to the PA. If I use the L6 connection from HD500X to the L2/3 speaker, are any advantages to sending the feed to the PA from the L2/3 insteadof direct from the pod? Cheers.
  10. Hi all, First sorry if this has been asked before, I'm sure it has but coudn't find the exact same question! It's time for me to ditch my cheapo 120W tranny amp for a decent FRFR. I use an HD500X unit and I have been looking at L2 and L3 speakers. (I'm in a 5 piece rock covers band playing venues usually with 200 people max). I only need one unit which acts for my monitor (behind me), I DI from the HD500X to the desk for FOH anyway, but they're out front so it doesn't count and I need to hear myself LOUD and clear! Also still need it to be loud enough for full volume band practice where we don't bother to DI everything. I'm up against full drums, a 4 x 12 Trace Elliot (Bass) and a 150W Marshall (2nd Guitar). I'm concerned that the L2 won't cut it over the band when I'm not going through the PA (we're definately not subtle!) but I don't want the extra size, weight and cost of the L3 if I really don't need it. Any advice? Thanks Si.
