What is the "Direct Output" in the Global I/O settings?
ashasha3 replied to ashasha3's topic in Helix Stadium
I think that there is a bug with the firmware or the global menu options are misleading. I should have clarified that I'm using SPDIF for monitoring until the D10 comes out and I can use AES. Anyway, there is a menu option to select which Matrix is output to SPDIF and you can select 1/4 or headphones or even Direct...yeah, none of that actually works. You get the main signal with the AUX/RET on 3/4 mixed in and that's it. I didn't figure it out until I actually hooked up some headphones to the phone output and could hear my other device. -
What is the "Direct Output" in the Global I/O settings?
ashasha3 replied to ashasha3's topic in Helix Stadium
I understand what you are saying and thanks for the response. I am using USB 7/8 to feed a VST instrument and I want to bring that back into the Helix Stadium as a global input on USB 1/2. It's there....I can see it on the Matrix and I'd like to mix that into a physical output of the Helix. That's why I thought that being able to route "Direct Output" to one of the outputs would work, but it's clearly not. I can route the VST into USB 3/4 and then add I/O path to the output, but I'm lazy and I didn't want to have to do that to every patch. Really I just wanted to see if there was a smart/easy/lazy way to do this before I start editing patches. I can see the signal in the matrix as if it is mocking me and I can't get to it. I guess that you are saying that it is only to be used as the return for re-amping. EDIT: Actually USB 1/2 isn't in the main input either as a selection. I'm really confused as to what it is there for because you can't route it anywhere. -
Bringing Plexi Back factory preset .... noise all of a sudden
ashasha3 replied to PaulTBaker's topic in Helix Stadium
So not sure if this is the same bug, but there is a repeatable issue. Go into preset 4B "Smells Bells" and swap the reverb to dynamic plate...just make sure you can turn it down or bypass when it goes nuts. I'm not sure if this is a setting issue between the two, but it doesn't seem like digital feedback is the intended result. -
Yeah, I know right? Kind of a surprising move. All of my Variax cables have Neutrik on both ends so it's just another thing we have to deal with....first world problems.
-
On one end, not both.
-
This is kind of important to know. I've got a Stadium sitting right next to me and I'm already disappointed about having to have an external box hanging out by an ethernet cable (not even a locking Neutrik jack)....that I have to spend $210 extra for.

I'm trying to get my Helix connected to my system which is admittedly over complicated and ridiculous, but I'm trying to find a way to have a global dry send on one of the physical outputs and under SPDIF and USB 1/2 there is an option for "Direct Output". It is dead when selected no matter what I try to send into the device. I reserve the right to be stupid.

Bringing Plexi Back factory preset .... noise all of a sudden

Similar experience last night. I changed the reverb to dynamic plate and about 3 seconds later it freaked out and continued even after changing patches. I think that it went away after changing patches a few times....I don't think that I cycled power. -
Update....looks like they do have core isolation drivers for the Helix up on the Line6 website. https://line6.com/software/index.html You may be able to just install them overtop of the current ones or do like I did and rip them out, whine, find the new drivers and then install them. Seems to be working so far.

No, you can't turn it back on without uninstalling the drivers. I went through and deleted them manually by changing the ownership of the folder and now workbench won't work even with a Helix as the Variax controller (I was hoping that the drivers were just for the regular VDI adapter). And this isn't just a case of me worrying about good practices and the fact that core isolation is a cyber concern....I have several apps that crash every time that I try to start them if core isolation is disabled. You all want to talk about how hard it was to figure out to disable it to make workbench work...it was even harder to figure out why these apps were crashing my system. I have 4 variax guitars....I know that kind of defeats the purpose of the variax technology, but I'm kind of in a tough situation here. Do I keep my computer vulnerable and not able to use apps and be able to use workbench or do I say screw it and don't update my guitars anymore? How about Line6 just update the driver? Variax is still being sold on the Helix so it should be a supported feature. I think that they are still selling the Yamaha version of the guitars.

Five High-gain Models...?
ashasha3 replied to kurtiscollette's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Realizing that this topic is almost old enough to drink....I bought an JTV89F and can't figure out where those "exclusive high gain models" are. I can't find them on the website or anywhere online. I did update to the latest firmware. Just really worried that I might be missing out on something...you know. -
Helpful Tip For Vdi Cables
ashasha3 replied to pdicarlo's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The secret is to use stranded patch CAT5 or CAT6 patch cable. I prefer 24/7AWG as its just small enough to fit into an RJ45 connnector and it's very flexible. Anything with solid conductors are going to be stiff, likely to get kinked and when that happens it will snap. Another good trick is to use some sleeving for the cable; you can get lengths of it for a few bucks on e-Bay in a variety of colors (highly recommend heatshrinking the ends of it and putting a boot on the end that goes into the USB adapter. Then just put ethercon connector on the other end of the cable and be done with it. -
I've been modifying guitars for years to get more tonal options out of them and have owned some nice ones that do them to include a PRS513 and an EBMM Gamechanger. Great guitars, but the JTV's acoustic and alt tuning capabilities really intrigued me so I bit. There are some issues here and there with some of the models, but with the editor I've been able to dial in some pretty good tones and while it's a modelling guitar it's pretty impressive. Except for one massive oclusion. Where the heck is the option to wire a single humbucker for parallel operation? I'm talking about the good old 4 wire humbucker being wired up in parallel rather than series. This is probably my single favorite tone of any pickup and with all of the options we have under the hood of this thing I cannot for the life of me believe that this was not implemented. I assumed that I just didn't see it, but I've been through the editor, the manuals, the forums and it apparently isn't even on the radar. So I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction and educate me. If not then I wonder if anyone else is missing this and if we could try to get it implemented in a future update. I'm new here so I don't know how reactive they are to suggestions; I've seen some companies that ignore their user base and some that really jump on suggestions and look for innovation. It just seems like something that the JTV series was made to do to me.
