Hi all - bit of a noob question - am just wondering how everyone uses the z input impedance setting Is auto the best choice (seems to be normally 1 m unless a fuzz is first in line) or do you actually change the setting for different patches or to change the sound? Cheers in advance

Advice needed please - how do all set up the arbitrator fuzz? I am really struggling to get any sort of usable sound with both the pedal engaged and off If you set the base amp tone first and then add in the pedal first in the line, the auto z then makes the tone without the pedal on pretty unusable I know the work-around is to have the impedance change with the pedal on or off (1m when off and auto when on) but then I find the tone with the pedal on not great It is better to set the pedal in line first then set up the base amp tone with the auto z always on already darkening the tone When getting the Helix, I was excited to have access to a virtual marshall and fuzz face but so far that classic tone is eluding me How do you guys set up a good usable tone with both the pedal engaged and off ?? Cheers in advance

Hi - any tips on how to successfully dial in a Marshall type classic rock sound - all he Marshall plexi & jcm 800 type amps seem mega super-bright and even with presence and treble on zero it is pretty bright and a pretty unusable tone I already am using low & high cuts on the cabs at 100 and 5 I am using mainly fenders with single coils - all help welcomed apart from telling to buy a Les Paul LOL !!
-
Thanks for all the replies - I fully appreciate that it is almost impossible to turn a single coil int a humbucker and you cannot get a strat to sound like a les paul - I just wanted a rough approximation The best simple solution I have found is to use a simple eq block with a boost in gain, bass and mids at 525 and a cut in treble - works OK to fatten up a single coil nicely
-
thanks - great info I appreciate it is an almost impossible but only need an approximation of the sound !! cheers

Hi - any suggestions on how to eq a single coil to sound more humbuckerish My instincts tell me to use the simple eq block to boost mids at 500 - 600 hz, nudge the treble down a bit and increase gain a bit However, any practical advice or suggested settings would be appreciated from the more knowledgeable gurus on here Cheers on advance

Effect blocks affecting sound even when turned off
brettchinery replied to Axelemanuel's topic in Helix
This was the first "issue" I encountered when getting to know my Helix - the solution is to put the fuzz first in the chain (as you would do in real life) and with the fuzz off, set the z input to the full value (1M from memory) to get a nice bright cleaner tone Then set the fuzz foot-switch to not only turn the fuzz on & off but to change the input z parameter over to auto, so that you get a darker spongy tone with the fuzz on Done & sorted -
Hi all - does anyone use these amp controls and can anyone give a simple guide on how to use them - I usually leave them at default as I only hear a difference in sound on higher hum settings, the ripple & bias X seem to do nothing to my ears all advice welcome - thanks

Mine is Elton the LT

I put a fuzz in my chain and the sound went dull

Yes - sorry, meant to type 1m -

I had this issue too when the fuzz is first in the chain - the work-around is to programme the same button you use to turn the fuzz on and off to also change the impedance setting - I have it as auto when the fuzz is on and 1m when it is off -
great - many thanks for your advice

Hi - I am shooting for the Hendrix/Trower blues/rock uni-vibe type tone Anyone care to recommend some actual knob settings to get into the ballpark - also is it best to be mono into amp block or go stereo after? Any help gratefully received - thanks

I am new to the "Helix world" and being a blues/rock kind of guy, I have always gravitated to the Marshally type sounds in any modeller However, I have been auditioning all the amps and have been surprised at how much I love the vox & fender amps with various overdrive pedals and my new absolute favourite is the mail order twin (based on a Silvertone?) It sounds killer with light & heavy overdrives and also the fuzzes It shows you really should disregard your preconceptions and just use your ears !!! If it sounds good, it is good !!

I am a relatively new user but from other advice on here from others, I have found that a 100hz lo cut and 5k hi cut on the cab block seems to be about right for my setup Also I have found the mic, distance and mixing in room reflections can drastically alter things I now use the 121 ribbon at setting 6 with 50 % room reflections on most patches and it sounds quite natural and "amp in a room" I am still learning with this thing - however when you get it sounding sweet it really is bloody impressive!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had all sorts of multi effects in the past and this is the only one that actually sounds and responds like an amp - to my ears, it seems especially good at the clean but dirty breakup valve sound that most other modellers really struggled with I was very close to returning it but I realised it was me, not the box that was the problem - you really have to learn how to programme it

Hi all - whats the consensus of opinion here on having the input pad on or off The manual seems to imply only turning on the input pad with high output pickups but from searching around, others are saying have it on all the time whatever the guitar FYI, I am using a strat, a PRS custom 22 and Les Paul traditional - none of which having scorching high output and the strat is a super-bright treble machine Thoughts ???
-
Hi - looking for advice - what do you guys do if a particular amp setting is still way too trebly even if the treble and presence knobs are back to zero? Is it a case of being more aggressive on the high cut (I am currently at 5K) FYI - I am using a strat with ash body and maple neck, so it is a pretty bright trebly beast anyway !!! any help much appreciated

I have just had one of these delivered from Amazon for about £60 (in the UK): http://gatorcases.com/products/dj-recording/g-club-series-dj-bags/g-club-control/dj-controller-messenger-bag-25-width-g-club-control-25/ If anyone needs a good gig bag for a Helix LT, I can highly recommend it

Hi - am still getting to grips with the Helix LT and learning all the time I still don't really fully understand compressors and am only using the red squeeze compressor at the moment as it is the simplest to use/set up with only three knobs - anyone got an idiot's guide on how to use the others with more parameters??? Thanks in advance
-
many thanks - sorted it - I am using the same switch to turn the fuzz on & off to now change the z setting - in effect it creates the impression of a a true bypass pedal now - awesome help on here
-
Thanks and all fair points - the one thing that I dont understand is that when you insert the fuzz pedal, the auto z doesn't seem to immediately detect it (the tone doesn't change) and only seems to change once you save the patch and then reload the patch into the chain

Help required - Input pad and guitar volume pot
brettchinery replied to brettchinery's topic in Helix
Hi - all sorted - thanks for all the constructive help!! Rock on good people -
Hi - looking for some help - let's say you want a very basic sound of an amp with an arbitrator fuzz for lead. Firstly, I would choose & set up the amp with a cleanish sound for rhythm I like and then add in the fuzz pedal at the front of the chain as you would do in real life - once you have the settings done, you save the patch with the fuzz status off to kick in with a footswitch. The issue I have is that that sound changes when you return back to that patch - your sound without the fuzz on has changed as I think the auto z input now suddenly kicks in and then changes your sound from how you first programmed it with a different z response - it is quieter and has far less treble in it Am I doing something wrong or is the auto z not responding until you save the patch and return to it??? I really hope I have explained myself clearly and you might be able to help Many thanks in advance Hi - I really need your help setting up a patch - let's say you want a very basic sound of an amp with an arbitrator fuzz for lead.
