    Black friday?

For next years cyber mon. I got my helix for 25% off from Guitar Center and picked it up that day because it was in stock and they price matched proaudiostar.com Cyber Mon. deal. If I would have had more patience I could have waited for proaudiostar to ship it to me for free w/out tax and I would have saved another 100.00 because guitar center would not do a no sales tax deal. But I was like a kid in a candy store when it came to the Helix and could not wait.
  2. Found the Hex wrench hidden in the USB bag that I had not opened. I think I am good to go now. Thanks for your experience!
  3. This is a great response thanks. I had no idea the onboard pedal on the helix floor does this because there is no button.I swear I have looked and looked and this is not printed anywhere in an obvious way. I will give it a try tomorrow. Speaking of that onboard exp 1 pedal. It is too stiff. Is there a way to adjust the tension?
  4. I mean no disrespect. I have used 3 exp pedals quite successfully over the years. We all have different use case scenarios. I use 2 for guitar- 1 for volume and one for delay mix and I control some Ipad synths via midi with the 3rd pedal. And this video does not address my questions I asked- I saw that video. Thanks for responding.
  5. Hi There- I read this forum and this still is not clear to me. I am a new Helix floor user. I am leaving my old rig that had a traditional cry baby wah with the toe on/off button. I see there is this expression pedal made for helix with a toe button. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SP1L6H--mission-engineering-inc-helix-expression-pedal-with-toe-switch-black-finish?mrkgcl=28&mrkgadid=3157640887&rkg_id=0&product_id=SP1L6H&campaigntype=shopping&campaign=aaShopping - Not In Stock&adgroup=Guitars&placement=google&adpos=1o1&creative=105593157841&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4p3X_vD13gIVChgMCh1CBga6EAQYASABEgKobfD_BwE But see it has 2 female 1/4 jacks on the pedal. From you tube videos, I can see how I can assign an expression pedal w/out a toe button to auto engage the wah by programming it to turn on and off the block via parameters via some learned commands. I would rather not engage it this way. I would rather toe forward to push the button to engage like the traditional wah that I am used to. If this pedal above can be used for the toe button to engage the wah on the helix floor would this be accomplished on this pedal by: 1. Using 1 x 1/4 inch jack on the pedal connected with a TS cable to exp. 2 on the helix and the other 1/4 inch jack on the pedal connected via a TS cable to the exp 3 jack on the helix thus using both. ports 2 and 3 on the helix and on the pedal? 2. Or would it be connected to the pedal via a 2 x 1/4 inch ring/tip to 1 x1/4 male cable which would then connect to either the exp. 1 or exp. 2 port on the helix? With this cable as seen below? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000068O1N/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I am hoping # 2 will work because I need 3 expression pedals in my rig. Also if this does work as described in number 2 above how do I map that button on the helix ? Does it just get learned to turn the wah block on/off all the other buttons? When I first bought the helix I thought the built in exp. pedal 1 would have that toe button but I can see clearly I was wrong about that. I am also confused because this pedal mentions the helix rack and the helix rack controller but does not mention the helix floor. Sorry too be so wordy. I know I can just buy this pedal and trial and error it but I am hoping users before me can clarify this for me.
  6. I did return my stomp. But......guess what. I liked it so much I bought a full sized helix floor. They hooked me. I am very happy with my purchase.
  7. I am confused when I read the HX Stomp Manual re: USB signal routing. My use case is this. Guitar left mono in goes to the Stomp. Guitar left mono goes out of the stomp. Check- that works in the obvious way- I hear the stomp effects and I can play with levels etc... Now I connect my IPAD with the camera connection kit to use with the HX stomp as a USB interface for live use (not on a computer for recording). I use AUM or audiobus (IPAD signal routing app) on the IPAD. In that APP I select HX STOMP USB 1 & 2 as the input. I then drop the TONE STACK app into the signal chain. I then select HX STOMP USB 1 & 2 as the output in my IPAD routing app. Where I am confused is this. I mainly use Tone Stack for modulating effects to free up some blocks on the HX STOMP. My USB signal was weak so I had to go into the HX STOMP and turn the Global setting Pref. "USB In 1/2 Trim" up a bit. That seemed to give me a good mix of tone stack effects with HX Stomp effects. My question is (I am not sure I understand which signal comes first or last or if it is merged etc..) 1. Am I hearing 2 separate signals - i.e. HX is sending its signal dry to my Tone stack amp and also sending a separate signal with its effects to one of the USB outputs on the HX stomp. 2. Or is the final output of HX stomp being sent first with its effects and then being routed internally to the tone stack app and then the tone stack app is then merging everything to the left mono output on the HX stomp. It is hard for me to know what is handling what as it relates to the USB interface. I read something in the manuals about USB out 1 & 2 carrying the dry signal but to reroute using outputs 5&6 etc... very confusing to me what all off these outputs mean. I did not know if anyone could explain this in layman's terms? Maybe I am overthinking it. My tone sounds good the way I have it routed. When I select a dirty preset on the HX stomp it seems like my delays on my IPAD sound clean and not muddied and my tone stack Chorus sounds pretty amazing. Thanks for any thoughts about this topic.
  8. Yes for me it replaced my IKmultimedia Duo Interface "almost" perfectly. Couple of things I had to work through as it related to midi as it relates to midi so far. 1. I had an issue with midi through. I go midi out of a drum machine to the midi into the stomp for BPM. Then I connected the midi out of the stomp back to my drum machine midid in. This is so my IPAD that is also hooked to the stomp as the interface can send a CC change to my drum machine to change songs. The problem I ran into was that the stomp is sending something via midi to my drum machine that was causing it to freak out. So when I set the stomp to midi through it did not work for me. I do not know what it is sending but I could not figure it out. Maybe someone else knows. My work around was to purchase a Bluetooth PUC+ that I set up to send to my midi in my drum machine. So my IPAD sends the CC command via bluetooth to change my songs on the drum machine. I would prefer to have a hard wired midi loop but that did not work out for me with my environment. 2. I am having a hard time with underdstanding how the inputs and outputs work together with the USB interface re: setting levels. But keep in mind I am outputting the stomp for guitar direct to some powered speakers (not using an amp). I have levels that seems like it successfully merged my IPAD effects output with my stomp effects output and it sounds really good but I do not know what I did - it took me a long time to set my levels. (i.e. so that by dotted 1/8th delay oil the IPAD does not over power the stomp level etc... The manual explains this but I am still not understanding the input outputs etc... as it relates to HX as an interface. Maybe someone know better.
  9. Another thing I am doing, because it is a USB Interface, is that I am connecting it to my IPAD on my Mic Stand and I am successfully integrating the tone stack app into the guitar chain. So I am finding success with using the amp modelers on the STOMP with vol. control and triggering many of the Tonestack modulating effects which are very very good. For my one man band shows this is a great set up and I even integrate the HX STOMP signal into an IPAD looper app I have named Quantiloop. In my one man band setup I use a foot pedal named beat buddy that delivers bass and drums for many of my songs and my app Onsong changes all of the songs via midi on my beatbuddy pedal. My beat buddy is also midi chained into my HX stomp and my IPAD so it sends the tempo to my HX stomp and auto sets my BPM for all my modulation effects on the stomp HX and sends the BPM to my Tonestack app effects on my IPAD and the BPM also syncs with my looper on my IPAD so everything is tightly integrated with BPM. So a typical thing I do is start my beat buddy song then I loop a basic clean chord progression that repeats later early in the song. I then stop the intro loop and play and sing live, then when it comes for a lead, I start the looper again and step on my lead channel on HX STOMP for soling over the chord progression. Of course when i am playing with a band I only need my HX stomp with an expression pedal and tap tempo but my main goal was to merge the new IPAD apps with the hardware HXSTOMP and so far I am having success with it being a very flexible piece of equipment.
  10. I have been pushing my stomp to the limit. I can say the only negative thing so far for me is discovering that you have to be very thoughtful of which 6 effects you use because of DSP limitations. In some instances I can literally only chain 4 effects without it impacting DSP. Anyhow, there are some great youtube videos that show more thoughtful uses using particular lower DSP effects and somewhere there is documentation in this forum to help plan and manage the DSP. I have worked through this and I have found a good Clean/Dirty/Lead chain with typical modulating effects in the chain that I trigger on/off with a small MC6 Midi controller for my needs. The only other limitation at the moment is that it will not work with 2 expression pedals without a reported work around (which I cannot get to work around). But if you are only using one expression pedal you should be OK. The volume control is a block but you can have your expression pedal learn the master levels out and control volume to save an effect "block". Another thing I am doing, because it is a USB Interface, is that I am connecting it to my IPAD on my Mic Stand and I am successfully integrating the tone stack app into the guitar chain. 11. Based on your mention, I just ordered 2x DVP4 Mini Volume X- I have 2x mini DODs but they feel flimsy and loose and I cannot adjust the tension so I want to find another mini pedal that works for my smaller board I am building. Also what cable are you using for the stomp to run both?
  12. This bug is killing me. Line 6 when will an update be released to fix this?
  13. Thanks so much- I have spent hours on this. It appears to be a bug. I will try the users suggestion in the thread on The Gear Page as a work around and hopefully a new update will be released soon to address this bug.
  14. I am using this cable: https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-STP-203-inch-Insert-Cable/dp/B000068O1P/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542141815&sr=8-1&keywords=Hosa+STP202 I have tried carious expr. pedals. I want to use 2x expression pedals. Exp. 1 & 2. I fully understand how to set them up in the prefs and I can see how to learn it. I cannot get any to be recognized for expr pedal 1 it only recognized exp. pedal 2.. I need help with this. Can someone please respond who has connected 2 expression pedals and let me know your pedal type and cable? I have a gig and this is killing me because without control I cannot use the stomp for gigging. Is this a bug?
  15. OK I am continuing to be frustrated with the HX STOMP expression pedal set up. All I want are 2 basic expression pedals to control some various parameters. Thanks to amazon I have ordered various pedals and none work correctly. I finally ordered 2x DOD mini https://digitech.com/en/products/dod-mini-expression . Last night I connected using the recommended https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-STP-203-inch-Insert-Cable/dp/B000068O1P/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542141815&sr=8-1&keywords=Hosa+STP202 cable. I set both pedals to TIP. It worked!!!! I was able to learn expr. 1 and 2. Guess what- I woke up this morning and went to my various patches and now exp. 1 is not being recognized. Only 2 is being recognized. I have spend hours this AM checking my cables. Rebooting HX flipping the switch on the DOD from tip to ring. Nothing works- to me this seems like a bug. The only thing left for me to do is to order 2 x Line 6 EX-1 Expression Pedal to try. HAs anyone successfully set up 2x expression pedals. I am not interested in the one pedal that controls 2 things with a push of that to button by M. I just want 2 basic expr. pedals that work and that has a smaller foot print, Ugggggg
  16. I think my problem is- don't laugh- I am coming from BIAS FX and BIAS amp on the IPAD. With BIAX FX I could run 2 paths with almost unlimited effects and amps and sims on/off in each chain. The problem there is I could not trust the IPAD live with some very occasional tech issues I encountered and I could not chance that live. So this was my first move in many years to return to a multi effects pedal - prior to that many years ago I had the Line 6 M9 that I had success with but one button crapped out on me and it was not cost effective to fix so I moved to the PAD. Anyhow - I am not giving up on the HX Stomp yet. I have 45 days to figure this out. I do not need much for the songs I play so I am hopeful I can find an amp sim I love and then create more carefully thought our presets to match the songs rather than one chain that I used to use in BIAS FX for multiple songs.
  17. Not going to lie- I know it is my responsibility to research before I buy- but for a newbie I missed it. The last thing I always do is add modulation after I dial in the tone. So I got midi figured out first- took me hours, check, then heard the tones check in the model, figured expression pedals check. - Mistake I then Velcroed it to my board. Then went to simply add the modulation effects and I was like WTF.- grayed out... If I return it I hope that the velcro removal comes off cleanly so I can get a refund.
  18. Thanks as with any new thing there is a learning curve. I did not know what DSP was or that that meant and that was related to this surprise I discovered. Now I know that DSP is like RAM memory on a computer (I think). I am not going to give up yet. Scott at https://www.scottminchk.com/ has some videos and patches on you tube that he is working on where he has carefully selected the effects to do what I want to do to cover some typical covers out there with gain & clean channels and typical effects. I am hoping with his chains and some luck in finding a tone that is not a DSP hog so that I can chain more modulation effects, I can keep the Stomp. Love this forum. It has been very helpful in my transition to Helix. That full sized Helix sure looks tempting after running into this DSP wall but falling in love with the some of the models and sounds!
  19. So-bought an HX Stomp. I watched all the videos. I watched others building presets. ... I experiment with some IRs and purchased some guys presets. I get pretty comfortable with how to operate the HX Stomp. I think I can use any effect up to 6 blocks with any of the effects and amp modelers meaning total flexibility with up to 6 effects. I was disappointed to find that this is not true. So depending on the Amps and Amp/Cab combos I select etc... when I go to choose other effects- sometimes- many are grayed out and not available. I basically worked hard to create one preset chain where I could make 3 snap shots that have 1. Clean, 2. Bluesy clean with a little gain, 3. high gain for leads but with typical modulation effects to turn on/off. I have a particular sound in mind with the tone - so I am off trying all the different amps and speaker combos. I love some of them I hear. My thought was I will find an amp and a speaker combo I love (with clean, medium gain and heavy) and then will add chorus, flange, delay, reverb at the end of my chain and will turn those on and off via a small midi controller I have. I researched it. Tested it - yes I can control the blocks via midi- Yes- I can control the snap shots via midi, Yes- I can control the parameters on the effects like delay mix and volume with my expression pedals, so far so good I thought... So this all sounds reasonable right? .... chorus flange delay reverb= 4 blocks.. That leaves me 1 block for Amp/Cab combo, and a 1 block for a Dist. in front of the amp if needed for more gain. Guess what... It does not work exactly this way. I go to build my pre-sets, I find an amp/cab I like and I put it in second in second position. I then dial in a clean sound that I love for that block. Then I play with the gains on that amps to see if I can get a great distorted lead sound on the amp alone.. so I can use my expression pedal to high gain it. In many instances I cant so I then I add a distortion pedal in front of the amp in first position to get that beefy gained sound I love = 2 blocks. Then I go to add the modulation effects to add (Chorus, Flange, Delay, Reverb) and then the surprise hits me. Many times effects I want and want to try are greyed out. Not available. Cant get a Spring reverb sometimes. Cant get a basic chorus in other instances. Sometimes entire effect categories are grayed out. What the heck- that was not mentioned in the manual. Seems like it may have something to do with what amp combos I select in what is available or grayed out- not sure. Yes there is something I can always select for 6 blocks but guess what- is is not the things I always want or need. The things I want and need are often grayed out. Super frustrating to not have total flexibility with those 6 blocks. I researched the crap out of this and this was not mentioned in the manual or if it is mentioned it is worded in a way that is not obvious. 6 blocks would have worked for me if it really allowed me to chain "any" 6 effects together but there are way too many limitations that are grayed out each time I found a base sound I like.. I do love the sound but this is a bit too limiting unless I am doing something wrong. I know people will say get the full sized Helix but for me cost and size is a the issue- mainly size. Someone please tell me I am doing something wrong. I want to love this unit. I am so close.

    IR Question

Thanks are the IR's universal between hx stomp and the full sized helix. I notice some of the IRs end in .wav and others end in .hlx are these both IR formats? Also I notice some of the pre-sets that come with IRs say that the IR needs to be loaded into a certain number slot. Why is this? I promise I tried to google search this topic and these questions are not obvious.

    IR Question

Yet another question from this HX Stomp newbie. I have been reading about IRs. I am confused what IRs are exactly? Are these just speakers cabs or are they Amps Cabs and Speaker cabs packaged? Also are all IRs universal for HX Stomp and the full sized Helix?
  22. Thanks for this advice. I tested the output from about +4db max to about -100db (min/silent) and I did not notice any loss of trails on the effects when I quickly decrease the volume so I think this may work. I guess in all my presets I just need to make sure my +DB is set similarly so my line out stays consistent between patches clean and dirty etc....
  23. That is what I needed to know and to think about- so thanks. I like your idea about controlling the AMP volume. I just do not want to lose any gain on the amp when I lower the volume. Does every amp model have a volume pod that can be lowered without losing gain? If so that will work for me. I can't afford the full sized helix and I am going for a smaller footprint but I do love what i see in the full sized Helix.
  24. Hi Does anyone see any reason why I should not set the min max levels with my expression pedal on the end of the chain "Output MAin L/R" to like Min. -30db (vol off) and Max- +5db (or something like that- Volume on)? This would allow me to not have to use a vol. pedal block to control my instrument level. However, I am new to helix and I am not sure if this will be a viable solution for the level out when playing live for reasons unknown at this time. Thanks for any thoughts.
  25. Thanks this was very helpful. I guess I did not catch that cable shown in the video because it is was showing it going to only one controller with 2 inputs. A light bulb went on today when I saw the amazon link you sent showing the cable and after rewatching that video. I get the TIP / Ring thing now and the settings. I guess I will try some expression pedals when I get the cable. Someone also said the new firmware was causing some expression pedal issues but not sure how wide spread that is or true. I will keep an eye on the board.
