JTV-69 Acoustic Model Issues
cubbini replied to changingparadigm's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have the same problem with that model (JTV69, all acoustic models)- there are howling harmonic resonances all over the place! Had to use a Behringer feedback destroyer in parametric mode to control 10 flagrant problems. My Variax 700 shows no tendency to do this. If it weren't for the much better 12 string models and the individual model string volume capability, I would switch back to the 700 - I prefer the 6 string acoustics in the 700 - no "boxy" sound. -
If I tweak a patch (not saving it), then select another patch, and then return to the first patch, it's still tweaked.... It would seem to me that once you step on a footswitch to recall a preset, it would come up in the saved version, not the temporarily tweaked version. Especially with dual patches - if I disable "dual", and then step again, it should re-enable dual - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. This happens on both my x3 pedals........

got my answer.................

Howdy! Does the humbucker on this critter have a split coil so I can use just a single coil in the bridge position? Primarily to use it this way in positions 2 and 4 for the "quack" - the JTV69 sss has the best magnetics quack I ever heard!

jtv69 pickup balance
cubbini replied to cubbini's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Well, I'm gonna remove the pickguard assembly and peek under it. I removed the screws from just the pickguard, and lifted the end by the knobs about an eight of an inch, and raising it stabilized the volume discrepancy, even when tapping/thumping the controls and pickups. Lower it back, and intermittent problem returns (only with magnetics). I just don't wanna yank any wires. etc., so any tips/helpful advice would be welcomed!!! Thanks!!! -
What in God's name would make a JTV 59 from Japan worth US $8,806.00 on Ebay? There are more than a few of these! Just wondering.............
-
Does the JTV59 have this feature? Thanks!!
-
Using Spank for Strat tones, I use Variax sounds on position 1, 3, and 5, and just the magnetics on 2 + 4. When playing a note, getting a kind of "noise" along with the sound - it doesn't really sound like distortion, just distortion-like "sizzle-y"undertone only when string is plucked or even muted.
-
Does that mean that the acoustic "impulses" would remain the same, and would not sound any different than they do now? Thanks.......

I really love the sounds in my V700 - especially the acoustic sounds. I also have a JTV69s. To me, the acoustic sounds are clanky, with some kind of slight dobro/banjo reverb-y sound that I do not like. 1. I've read that it is possible to flash the JTV69s back (To version 1.72 or something like that)so that it sounds just like the 700. 2. Would I then lose some functionality? In particular, (a) the ability to adjust string volumes per patch, (b) the use of the tuning selector knob, and (c) the "quick capo" feature (d) the ability to blend in/out the magnetic pickups? (e) I would then have to use Workbench, NOT Workbench HD? Thanks!! I use 9s on both guitars - can't change that......

variax 700 and jtv69s questions........
cubbini replied to cubbini's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
thanks! -
1. Will a Variax 700 neck work on a JTV69s (with mounting holes drilled correctly)? I love that neck.... 2. Will reflashing a JTV69s to 1.7 negate all of the editing capabilities of Workbench? What's to gain or lose by doing this? I like the acoustic sounds better in the Variax 700 better, that's why I'm asking. Thanks

'preciate that!!!

Howdy! I'd like to know if the HD5000x or Helix can emulate a simple whammy bar effect (think Bigsby or old Strat) - at most, up/down 1 whole step, polyphonic, with real good tracking...... like the Ventures would use it.. NOT Dive bombs, or psychotic bumble bees..... thanks

JTV69S+WorkbenchHD+X3Live question
cubbini replied to cubbini's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
a thousand thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
JTV69S to x3Live via Variax Digital cable, X3Live into computer via USB cable (not Variax USB adapter), into WorkbenchHD (latest version) - I make an adjustment to a model, then try to upload to JTV69, and WorkBench closes (crashes). Happens in WinXp and Win8. Is this supposed to work? It all works when I use the Variax USB interface, battery in guitar, 1/4 cable plugged in to JTV69 Thanks all.........

slimming down 2 necks
cubbini replied to cubbini's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
i think i'll follow the good advice.................... thanks all -
I have a Variax 700 and a JTV69s - love 'em both, but would like to get closer to a Slim 60s tapered D neck, like my Epiphone Les Paul Plus Top Pro. Any ideas or advice on how much wood I can safely remove on these two necks before truss rod issues? I'm thinking about an eighth of an inch roughly.......... Am I crazy? Thanks!

Jack Plate Assembly for Variax JTV-69
cubbini replied to cubbini's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Another question - Does the pickguard on the jtv69 have to come off in order to reveal the attach point of the other end of the green ground wire from the jack plate? Thanks....... -
