  2. Hello, I have a two channel Frenzel amp head. Each channel has it's own inputs and full controls and can operate simultaneously. It has an effects loop on the back with 1 send and 1 return. I would like to use the expression pedal on my Helix floor unit to fade between one Frenzel channel and the other. I would also like to have my delay effects between my preamps and Amp section of my Frenzel. I imagine I will use the 4 cable method, using 2 Helix effects loops. Do I just use a Y adapter on the effects loop send of the Frenzel to get two returns back to the Helix? Thank you.
  3. YEP, same here, but with a Fender Blues Deville Reissue. Out the Helix EXT AMP jack into the channel switching jack on the amplifier, all I get is a hum. Tried standard mono guitar cable, then an TRS cable, then even a Boss FS-5U pedal and nadda. But I plug in a cheap little round footswitch with an attached cable and it works great. Sure would be awesome if my Helix floor could switch my amp channels. Oh and yes I updated to firmware version 2.53. No change. No switching, just loud hum.
  4. "Frets probably glued in".... yeah, I was thinking that too. I'll heat the frets up with a solder iron to loosen the glue. "Adjusting bridge radius"... Cool, I'll keep an eye on that. "Voiding warranty" .... understandable and acceptable. Thanks for the input guys.
  5. Hi guys, thinking I'd like to change the fingerboard radius of my Variax Standard from the stock 14" to 10". Fenders at 9.5" are very comfortable for me to play on, and I just bought my first PRS that feels super great with its 10" radius. I haven't found a replacement Yamaha neck that has a 10" radius so now I'm going get the appropriate tools ($350+ stewmac, ouch!) and give it a shot. I have a few questions that perhaps someone can answer for me: * Does Yamaha/Line 6 Variax Standard builders glue in their frets? * Does a radius change affect the Variax electronics in any way? I wouldn't think so but good to ask I think. Since I am going to have to remove the frets anyhow, thought I would put in some jumbo stainless steel since I really like playing on it and it lasts forever. As a footnote, I have done nut slot, refret and setup work a few times so not too fearful doing the radius, but any helpful advice is welcomed. Thanks!
  6. This is definitely a cool pedal board. Lightweight for its size really, wheels, and easily customizable if you're handy with tools. You should keep in mind that if you use this for a Helix, you will have to remove the guitar stand that is built into the lid in order to make room for the lid to fit on. The Helix is a little tall. Just a few rivets to drill out is all. You can actually mount the folding guitar stand on to a new flat piece of material (i.e. plywood) of some sort, and then have a pop up guitar stand that folds flat.
  7. I contacted the Broadway Stand guy too, but he has been out of stock both times I checked in with him. As an option I considered this one: But now after getting a permanent mount installed, glad I went that direction. I'll hit Lowes and pick up one of those Railing Flanges too just to have one around in case I build something else where I can use it.
  8. I have the Bodyrez in an effects loop. Mixing it into my chain for my Variax Acoustic guitar modeling right now. It seems to add some beneficial low frequencies for the Variax. BUT, the main reason for getting on to the pedal board was for my real Acoustic guitar that I just haven't got to yet; it sounded really good with the piezo pickup system in it. I've just been busy building bank tones for my various electric guitars so far. The more I am getting familiar with Helix the more I understand how flexible it is and I know I will be able to pull off a killer Acoustic guitar through it. The Nano Pog is a blast to use with the Acoustic guitar as well.

  11. Thanks! I found this one on ebay. I bolted that to a square piece of 5/8" plywood, then used 3m dual loop velcro to attach the plywood to the inside bottom floor of the pedal board. Drilled a hole in the metal top floor of the pedal board to let the mount protrude through. I do have to unscrew the top part of the mount from the base inside when I want to swing open the top floor of the pedal board, but overall it worked out great. Man I hate dealing with flimsy mic tripods stands, so that folly is gone from my life now.

  13. Simple, tight, and capable of everything I use for gigging. It's a Gator Gig Box 2 pedal chassis, Helix, Digitech Freqout, Electro Harmonix Nano POG, TC Electronics BodyRez and a Mission extention pedal. Just to the upper right of the Helix I have a mic stand mount secured inside and protruding through the pedalboard surface so I don't have to fool with any crazy tripods. There is also a 12 volt micro fan mounted just under the helix by it's air vents that I can activate for hot outdoor shows just as a precaution. With my Variax Standard, and Variax JTV-59, I can cover Country to Rock, Acoustic to Marshall, Drop D tunings, and much much more with a single footboard click. Out the Helix XLR jack to a lightweight QSC K10. I can be loaded in and set up in 5 minutes. Really could have used this in the 80s and 90s when the touring was constant, but what fun to play with now. Guess it's good timing for the bad
  14. I'm assuming the most obvious way within a preset to change guitars is utilizing snapshots. I got to be honest, after reading every post I can find and looking at multiple youtube videos, I am not easily getting a handle on snapshots. I finally figured out they are a subset of a preset. Makes me wonder why you would use stomp buttons at all if snapshots have more capability such as variax model changes and multiple parameter block changes. I'm sure I am missing some a few critical points so I will keep reading and trying to figure it out.
  15. Hi, this was a no no with the HD500x, but since we can choose a specific target input at the input block, per preset, in the helix, is this OK for the unit? I'm not meaning to make each one hot at the same time, just want to plug in different guitars, one Variax/one wireless, so that I can alternate between the two for live playing. Thx
  16. I have set up the dual input block preset, but now I am trying to find how I assign an on/off state for each input block.
  17. Of course, two minutes after I made this post, I figured out the pushing of the parameter knob for the Variax tuning. OK, so now I'll try my hand at the dual path input block thing. Hope it's not another episode of "stump the chump". Thanks silverhead; I'll get this gig ready yet.

Searching the forum, reading the manual, digging around on the Helix, can't find an answer so finally giving in, and posting a likely dumb question: I know a Preset can control Variax pickup selection, model and tunings. Can a Snapshot? I set up my Helix floor to be 4 Presets along the top and 4 Snapshots along the bottom. I'd like the Snapshots to control Variax mag and model pickup selection as well as model pickup tuning. Thx.
  19. Thanks for the reply. That is interesting and I will watch for that. If I choose to try cab sims I will definitely have duplicate patches without as backup. Thanks for sharing that experience Elexorien.
  20. Using a JTV59, Variax Std, HD500x and a DT-50 212. Having a great time getting familiar with my dream rig. One part of the learning curve that I haven't found much information about is how the cab sims work with the DT-50. I have began by using the D6 Link/preamp factory patches that come with the HD500x. While looking at the preamps I see that the cab and mic simulator options are on. So it looks like preamp patches are minus only the power amp simulator, which I see from a couple of posts, is recommended when using the DT-50. My question is whether it is a good idea to turn off the cab and mic simulators since I am using the natural cab sound of the DT-50? If the cab/mic sim is simply another option to use with the DT-50, then how does this affect the direct out line of the DT-50 that I plan to use for playing live? With a cab/mic sim in use, does the direct line out take into account the the sound of the DT-50 itself that is a part of what I am hearing standing in front of the amp? I realize that I could spend the time to record the DT-50 line out and compare it with what I am hearing in front of the amp, but I thought perhaps there is already a few of you that have gone down this path and have reached some conclusions that could save me a lot of trial and error. Thanks!
