Hi Some custom patches that I download from Helix community are totally silent. For example patches for Stairway to Heaven and Jeff Beck patches. http://line6.com/customtone/search/?submitted=1&family=helix&search_term=stairway http://line6.com/customtone/tone/3017791/ I try to tweak them as loud as possible but I still hear nothing and yes the amp and cap blocks are on.

I guess there is an option/block by which Helix turn your tune half step down. my guitars are usually always tuned half step down. Is there a way to make Helix turn your tune half step up?

Thanks you everybody for answering. I sure am novice in this recording stuff, mixing, mastering (I dont even know what this word exactly means =)) Yes HX is connected to active monitors via XLR cables and it sounds the same when recording and listening the recording trough them which is ok tone, not professional but I can live with it (at the moment at least). I dont play trough surround speakers anymore since the quality is much worse. Actually I tried it but I cant get any sounds from them. Some settings or pluggings that i am doing wrong but this is not a big problem since I know they cant get to the same level as active monitors. I have not done any EQ, compression etc with REAPER and this probably would make the tone better (if you know what you are doing, or by trial and error). Next thing I will try to make it sound better is trying this processing thing with REAPER. I guess REAPER is good enough to do even professional level audio editing?

I have had this problem for a long time. Its not just with Helix but other multi effects too. When I record using active monitors sound is ok. When I listen it with PC's surround system guitar sound is much worse, all the clarity is gone. When I listen other peoples videos from youtube etc I can hear perfect tones coming out from this PC surround system. I have tried to solve this issue for years but I never find a solution. When I used to listen my guitar playing trough this surround system I could hear just what I heard when I was recording it. I understand that they are not made for guitar and cant produce prefect guitar tone but why does it change bad when I record with KRK monitors and then listen it with surround speakers. When listening trough KR monitors it sound exact the same when I played it. It cant be that my surround speakers cant produce good sounds since they do it with other peoples videos. So any tips for this? Do you use some recording gear between Helix and computer (I record with USB straight from Helix to PC)? And would it change anything if I would use some recording gear. This is a total mystery for me. Even the guy from guitar shop told me that you should hear exact the same sound that I hear when I download a certain patch. I should hear the same tone that I hear from the video where the tone is demoed if I listen them with the same speakers (This was Boss ME-80). I did not believe him and I was right. Anyway, I hope you got the point. How to record professional quality tones with Helix? Do I need some recording gear? I use REAPER.

I reset to factory settings and Glenn´s patches started to work fine via monitors. Actually I dont know what it did since it is still firmware 2.12.0 but anyway they sound fine now. I have no idea why they sounded terribly when I first imported them to Helix but everything is ok now.
-
Ok, I reseted factory settings and working fine. Problem solved.

You mean reset to factory settings in Helix? Monitors work fine but not with Helix. It cant be broken XLR cables because I can hear PC voices trough Helix via XLR and monitors.
-
I use XLR cables to monitors. I tried to change them to TRS cables but I could not hear anything. Now I cant hear anything with the XLR cables either. Power was always on in Helix and in monitor. I still can hear guitar trough headphones and I can hear PC voices trough Helix and monitors but I just cant get any guitar sound from monitors via XLR cables. Could I have broke something?

I tried to record something with REAPER and they sound totally different after listening the recording, much better. Maybe the global settings is the key, how do I disable them?

I connect Helix to KRK Rokit 6 active monitors via XLR cables.

Hi I bought Artist pack I, mostly because Slash, Moore and Page patches. They sound all bad. Something must be wrong here since I believe Glenn is a good and honest guy. I tried all the patches and they sound like crap. Well it was not financially big lost but I can create much better patches in minutes but not even close to that good that I hear in Glenn´s videos where the sounds are perfect. I did not get any instructions in the download file. There most be something wrong with my settings or something. They cant sound that much different than in Glenn´s videos. Do I have something seriously wrong with global settings or what is this? I have tried it with LP and Carvin JB200C so they are both high quality guitars.
-
No time to read all the comments. So can you answer me if Glenn´s presets/patches include IR's? They sound really good and if they include the IR's I go get some. Do you guys have to adjst the tones to match your gear or do they sound pretty much like in Glenn´s demos? I am using well made Tokai Les Paul copy and Carvin guitar.

I finally got my expression pedal Mission Engineering SP-1 (modified to Helix). I got at least too problems when trying to set it up: 1. When I try to assign toe switch to put wah on/off so that it goes on/off when I press toe switch it goes of when I press the toe switch but as soon I move the pedal it goes back on. And it goes also back off when I go to heel down. 2. Pedal dont go from 0-100. It goes like 0-50 and then goes from 50-9 when I continue to press the pedal toe down. What I want is to use it like regular wah so that there is staring and ending position. Not like it is now that it changes the way about when pedal is in middle position. any suggestions to these problems? It is a modified pedal so I am not sure if it works right or can I make it to work right by doing some settings?

Thanks for the tips everybody. I dont understand what is the difference between recording backing track from youtube or download it first to the PC and then send it to DAW? The quality is exact the same. I hear the backing track the same when I record it from youtube and its only more complicate to download it first and then send it to DAW. I start to check of to those videos when I have time. I already learnt how to use EQ in REAPER.

I am recording backing track from youtube. I dont know what button you are talking about, I dont see any speaker looking button, does the button it say anything when you go over it? Anyway, when I add a new track I do nothing about it, just put the recording mode on to the track that I am recording.

When I record the backing track I cant use Helix then since it does not record its own playback I guess. So I record it Audio System set to DirectSound - Input device: Stereo Mix, Output decive: Spekers or Helix. Then I change Audio System to ASIO - Asio Driver: Helix There are so many options that I just get confused. I dont find those monitor settings but I guess it goes like you said:"You are sending two different signals into REAPER. One is the playback signal from REAPER into your headphones and the other is your guitar input into REAPER and then back out to your headphones".. or then signal goes from guitar first to to Helix and then to Reaper. I dont know. I am using only Helix, no other interface included. Thanks a lot for help. i try to figure out those monitoring settings and stuff when I have more time!

Yes I am recording guitar while listening other tracks. I am new to DAW:s and I decided to try this Reaper. I have not changed anything. I just first record the backing track to track 1. Then I change the device to Helix and press the record button again and it plays the track 1 and records guitar to track 2. I dont know those post -fader and pre-fader stuff and I didnt find them when I checked reaper. I think I have to study these DAW things. I recorded whoel song and while recording the volume dropped suddenly from track 1 and also from my guitar (track 2). When I listened it it was ok, no volume drop.

I dont know the transmission signal. I found this information: Signal-to-noise ratio Analog input: typ. 85 dBA at 1 Vrms Signal-to-noise ratio Digital input: > 90 dBA

Ok, thanks for the tip. I was recording a song and everything was ok when I set backing track (tarck 1) volume lower. then suddenly voice became lower but maybe I can deal with this trough trial and error. I am not sure what are those VHF/UHF/DIGITAL? I have connected Helix to HP receiver via cable that came with it but a 1/4 adapter had to put end of it to fit helix headphone jack. Also an optical cable came with it. You can choose from receiver if you want to use optical cable or 1/8 jack cable but you cant use them both at the same time.

I try to make it more clear: 1. Playback with Reaper via monitors/stereo - OK 2. Playback with Reaper via headphones - OK 3. Recording with Reaper with Helix (monitors) and listening Reaper backing track/s via monitors/stereo - OK 4. Recording with Reaper with Helix (headphones) and listening Reaper backing track/s via monitors/stereo - OK but inconvenient choice (closed backed headphones) 5. Recording with Reaper with Helix (headphones) and listening Reaper backing track/s via headphones - NOT OK, it´s like the backing track eats the guitar volume, fullness and everything that makes Helix sound good. Hi I guess there has been a lot of conversation about Helix with headphones but here is another one. I bought wireless headphones Sennheiser RS 175 and they sound decent when playing but when I use Reaper and put start recording with track 1 on (backing track) y guitar volume drops really low trough headphones. Any idea about this? It is ok if I play backing track trough monitors and listen my guitar trough headphones but since they are closed headphones I cant hear backing track properly. Could it be that the wireless headphones cant handle backing track and guitar at the same time via Helix at the same time? Also I hear some volume lowering sometimes even if I play just guitar trough these headphones. They are pretty expensive headphones and I have s possibility to them to shop and get my money back. It cant be wireless battery problem since they are full.. Does anyone know wireless headphones that could handle Helix well and Helix with Reaper playbacking all the tracks and the guitar would sound normal? Anyone have had good luck with Helix and DAW trough headphones (and what headphones) all playing nicely?

Can I connect expresison pedal to rack or control?
Soultrainer replied to Soultrainer's topic in Helix
Ok thanks for a good answer. I have Cry Baby 95Q in front of Helix so 3 expression pedals is stil more than I need. -
First steps with the Helix seem a bit disappointing
Soultrainer replied to ZSchneidi's topic in Helix
Why are you putting Scarlett between Helix and PC since Helix is audio interface by itself? I also got very much volume out of Helix when volume is only about 25-50% and my active monitors volume is about 25%. I also used my last multieffect with surround system and it was ok. I am planning to connect Helix to them also later but I am not expecting to get the sound I get from KRK Rokit 6" active monitors. I was also disappointed to the sound at first but I had studied that the presets sucks so dont be afraid what you hear from Helix at the beginning. I have had mine now about 1.5 weeks and I have much betters sounds not as good as I want but I have not bought yet any IRs and I havent done much tweaking. I know it is going to sound much better with bought IRs and when I learn to use it right. -
Hi There is 4 ports in rack and 4 ports in control. Can I use all 8 of them or does it block for example port 3 from rack if I connect something to port 3 in control? I am thinking about buying cables and if I can connect exp pedal to control I need much shorter cables?
