  1. Thanks for the information. In that case I safe the money and try to figure out whats the problem. Its in my home practicing rig i use unnecessarily long cable about 8-10 meters or so these are pretty wired up so could imagine that they pick up some cross feeding. Although they are good quality cables. So you say there are known issues with the Helix send/return circuits ? Ok that is new information. I might search up this topic and try to fix it that way. That would be pretty convenient because i have turned up the level on the effects loop block as far as i can remember. Thanks Bud.
  2. Hey guys, I currently struggle with the Helix using the Kemper in the FX loop. I get a lot of noise through the cables used. I want to upgrade to TRS cables but im not sure if the FX send/returns on the helix offer TRS support. The manual doesn't help me there. Can you tell me if I can use Balanced cables in the effects loops on the helix ?
  3. Yeah thanks man I guess the issue here may be a timing problem. What i would need is to offset the second midi command by several milliseconds. The target device doesn't seem to queue them and discard everything other than the first command it gets. Maybe I just dont understand how the Helix works in that regards. So if anyone here did similar stuff already some help would sill be good. Or it would be a good feature in the future so we could define sequential midi commands in the command center.
  4. Ok I need to stick to plan A with the program change commands. This is a bit inconvenient but at least it works. Because having to press two buttons is a bad solution. Thanks anyways.

  6. I recently got myself a Kemper in combination with my Helix. I totally agree with you that there are good and less good sounds on both systems. I felt the urge to get the Kemper because the Helix has its own nature and tend to be a bit too studio oriented. What i mean is that fizzy sound it tends to. Thats not necessarily bad because its perfect for what it was designed for. My decision towards the Kemper was that I play most of the time at home in a quiet environment. And wanted a more realistic and amp like sound not the clinical sound the Helix provides. And the Kemper does it perfectly. The Helix has an amazing feel to it absolutely. And especially for a live situation the Helix does work pretty well because i guess no one would even notice the difference. For me both system are great but neither the Helix nor the Kemper alone would be enough to satisfy me. The Kemper has amazing amp sounds which are out of competition but the effects section and the rig design is pretty much a pain in the a**. While the Helix offer good amp sims but they just don't do it for me because the are just models they don't feel like a real amp. BUT the Helix offers the best freaking pedal board ever. I love the effects on it and the versatility and the easy to use signal chain management. AND I FREAKING LOOOOOVE THE SCRIBBLE STRIPS !!!! They alone are worth the whole system. I use the Helix as my master and the Kemper in the effects loop this works perfect. For my Kemper i got so many good profiles from 5150 to VX Kraken (which is amazing), Mesa Triaxis, JP2C, Mark V, Randall Satan and co. So all stuff the Helix can't provide except the 5150 maybe. And I'm able to control the Kemper from the Helix via midi. So I'm happy with both and don't wanna go without any of them.
  7. So far everything works perfectly together. I don't even need the Kemper controller. The Helix is enough to switch the profiles on the Kemper. I didn't tried to control the stompboxes or effects on the Kemper because I'm using the Helix for that. But i don't se any problem coming there. Maybe i try to figure out how to control wah effects etc. or even the morphing feature on the Kemper with the Helix exp. pedal.
  8. Hello guys, I want to control another device via midi. The device needs two signals first a CC#47 value 1-127 and after that a CC#50-54. I can send either the CC#47 or the CC#50-54 but the target device wont recognize the second commands if I try to send both of them. In the control center i have set up an instant command per snapshot this works fine. The instant command sends the CC#47 and the device triggers a preset change but the CC#50 for example is required for the device to activate a specific slot. Now I have set up a second instant command for the CC#50 but that isn't recognized by my target. It seem so that both commands will be emitted at the exact same moment am I right here ? What I need is to send both commands in serial. So first CC#47 and after that when my target is ready the CC#50. But I don't want to press a second button in order to do this. How could this be setup in order to work ?
  9. Today I will give the 5150 Profiles a try and I'm curious how they perform compared to other profiles. So far in my few days of experience I figured out that professional profiles are not guaranteed to sound good. Its most of the time a matter of the setup even the guitar the profiles were refined with. I bought a Mark V pack which sounded good in the preview but on my guitar and setup it doesn't sounded as good. So there is a chance that professional profiles may disappoint too. I found free profiles on rig exchange that were way better. The MBritt profiles seem to convince many people. I will see. @zooey You definitely don't have to spend to much money on profiles. There is the community driven "Rig Manager" profile pool. With completely free profiles. There are over 10.000 of them. So enough for everyone to find some really good ones there. My Kemper currently runs 50% pro and 50% free profiels. So in the beginning you can get awesome sounds without even have to spend a single cent. If you have the one specific amp you love you can try professional packs for that one amp. They cost like 10€ or so. There are sites that offer bigger packs for like 100€ but i wouldn't buy such packs because the one amp you want may not even me included.
  10. Yeah thanks man this will all take some time to figure out which profiles are good. Michael Britt seems to be an icon in term of profiling. So yeah i will definitely check him out. I already had hours of fun exploring free profiles and there are some awesome ones out there. Today i hooked up the kemper with my Helix. Love this so much. The Helix makes adding effects so much easier then the Kempers internal effects blocks. The Laney isn't really in use here these two go right to my studio monitors
  11. They are both not very cheap but totaly worth their money. So I rather spend my money on good gear like this instead of really expensive guitars and stuff.

  13. I will just leave a lil comment here that might get me some more negative reputations because some guys here can't take critique on their toys. I wanted that "amp in the room" sound as well. And what can i say the Helix is by definition not capable of delivering that. If not run through an actual amp. But i found a good solution for that. I just use the Kemper which delivers the character of an amp in the room because it profiles amps in a room. If you run this through monitor of frfr monitors you still don't get quite the "amp in the room" sound because the monitors have like the name says a flat response. This flat response will never get you an amp like feel. A friend of mine has a "Marshall Woburn" speaker (NO AMP CAB). This has no flat response but a rather lollipop hi-fi/boxy kind of tone. Which is not usable for dialing in a tone or anything. But if you run the Kemper through such a boxy sounding speaker the result was pretty close to what I define as "amp in the room" sound. I was pretty amazed. Maybe this might even work with the Helix as well. Just my 2 cents ^^
  14. Its not like one sounds lollipop or anything but the Helix isn't on the same level right out of the box. There are many comparisons out their which leave the Helix behind. Most of then indeed because they weren't dialed in properly. Ola did a really good comparison were he compared the Kemper, Axe FX, Bias and Helix. They are all pretty close but you can definitely tell which on is the Helix. In a mix no chance to tell but isolated you indeed can. I'm already looking for pro profiles and don't mind to spend money on them. Its not like we can spend money on Helix profiles which I wouldn't do because its always a matter on which kind of speaker setup they were made. The Kemper is more likely to sound good everywhere. I have at least 2 month of experience with my Helix and had struggles in the beginning and have spend days and days dialing in a single Preset. In your case the Kemper would be indeed a bit of an overkill. For only the Morgan you may be getting this from the Helix as well with an awesome effects section. Like I said above i spend already many days of work for a single preset. And couldn't even get close to what i wanted. Mainly because the Helix has a Mark IV Model but I want a Mark V sound. So there is no way getting there. Because 2 different amps. Thats one big reason for me to bet my money on Kemper in that regard. Because I need a variety of amps mainly metal oriented Amps. Like the Mark V, Randall amps, Engl (the one on the Helix isn't the one I like the most), Mesa, Diezel and all that kind of stuff. And even if the Helix could provide these amp models. I had to spend too much time dialing them in. This is pretty annoying. I want to spend my time playing not going through deep editing for days. The IR management you mentioned is a big deal breaker for me too. In my setup I run at least 2 different IRs and its a hell lot of work to even find the right ones. This gets boring after some hours. So yeah Line6 should definitely work on that feature. Because the IRs are a big plus for the Helix I would even like to use DI profiles of amps and run them through the Helixs IRs to get the most out of it. I love the fact that i can use the Helix in perfect combination with over gear. And the Helix will always be the master while the Kemper is the slave providing me all the amps I want. So i can setup my effects chain in the Helix because the effects management in the Kemper seem pretty garbage compared to Helix. So like I said they both offer different things for me. Neither the Kemper nor the Helix alone would satisfy me. Indeed you have to use IRs to get even close to a descent sound but like jeff mentions the IR manager is crap. So its too much work to get the right IRs. And yes you get get an almost endless number of different tones from Helix which is nice. But for me its more the one tone I try to get but I would never get there if the amp model isn't in the Helix. So yeah... what should I do.
  15. Hello guys, yesterday i decided to myself and my Helix a Kemper. Mainly because the amp modeling on the Helix couldn't convince me to 100%. I love the Helix don't get me wrong. And its a total blast to play with this bad boy. But the amp modeling hasn't the kind of character I was searching for. I get the concept behind Helix and it works just fine for the purpose it was build for. Its perfect for studio use and even live use. BUT the amp sounds are way to clinical. That may be good for recoding and live no one would even give a f**k. But for my practicing hours which make 95% of my playing time this isn't the sound I want. So I decided to give the Kemper a try. The first time I played through the Helix I was disappointed. Doesn't sounded good at all. But after a couple of days I started liking it. Yesterday I got the Kemper plugged it in and started playing. I had such a grin on my face. I was absolutely killer. The sound the Kemper provides is on a whole new Level. This may not be everyones opinion. But this special "amp in the room sound" many people want. The Kemper can provide this. But only character wise not in terms of air movement and sound wall. For me this is perfect and totally true to the original. I'm pretty amazed. But the Kempers effects section is not that good. So i wanna use the Kemper amp sound with the Helix. Because i term of effects chain management the Helix bosses it. I will take some time to set them both so the Helix controls the Kemper. Its so much fun to have them both and I already love them both. This is not against the Helix I love it but the Kemper sound is just so much better. Maybe i do some videos in the future or the rig. And maybe do some comparisons between both.
  16. So I can send the exp. value via Midi ? Sorry but i never did something like that. But i saw the posibility on the comand center. Guess I have to dig more into the topic of midi controlling.
  17. Simple question I hope. Can I route the Helix internal exp. pedal into antoher devices exp. Pedal input. This may be stupid but lets say I have a Helix and want to use the exp. pedal on a second Helix as external exp. pedal. So the Helix 1 exp. pedal controls parameters on the Helix 2. Is there a way to send to exp. value to an output or anything ?

  19. You may be absolutely correct with what you saying. I don't wanna disprove you. But and there is the big BUT. The ADT effect is in my eyes totally useless crap. I hope you don't feel offended. This is not against you or this approach. This may work for some people or genres. But there is a reason every serious production don't use this kind of technique for double tracking. Every single recording tutorial over the last years i saw went the hard way to record to individual track or even more for like guitar riffs and stuff. Especially for Rock and Metal kind of genres. In modern djent they even tend to quad tracking. Although almost no one would even notice that. And there is no algorithm and nothing that will do the trick here. I might be wrong at this point. Its just to make the point that the delay trick might work technically. But the result is pure garbage.
  20. I might give that one a try. Biggest problem with that is one weak point of the Helix. As far as i know i can only open and close one parallel signal patch per path. for this i need to go to a first parallel patch and return it before the amp. And after the amp I would need a second parallel patch for the two IRs im running. Or is there a way to do that ?
  21. Believe me i tried EVERYTHING possible. I have the Mark IV amp block to a splitter to 2 parallel IRs otherwise i wouldn't even come close to anything usable. I tried various different IRs with different mics and positions, different speakers etc. I tried like 40-50 different IRs from ownhammer. Hard to find the ones I needed. I found some that sounded good and used them dialed them via splitter to sound pleasant. I set two EQs behind the IRs after recombining them. One parametric to sculpt the Q on specific frequencies. Because that characteristic is one big point im missing. Took me at least half an hour to dial in only the Q. Because its so subtle. I needed to fine tune the amp over all the Bias, Sag etc. I tried every possible setting. Even run the whole patch through a frequency analyzer in my DAW to see where I'm lacking. So in terms of tone I really did everything the Helix has to offer I believe. I don't put an amp and a random cab into my patch and expect it to sound good and come here to complain. As i said before I'm not a tone engineer i have limited knowledge. But I have 15 years of experimenting behind me and know one or two things ;) So I think I can say the Helix offers extreme potential to sculpt the sound of an amp model for sure. But all this has limits. I guess we all can agree that every amp out there has its own sound. So if I want that Mark V kinda sound I won't ever get it from a Mark IV amp right ? I heard matched Mark IV models on the Fractal that were matched against a Mark V and the result was stunning. But thats the point without this matching I have no chance to get there. The only way I know that would give me the result I want was to take an actual Mark V which I don't have (obviously) and create my own specific IR to use it in my patch.. Ola Englund did that with a IIC+ IR on the Helix and the result was quiet good. But I won't be able to do that thats the whole point here. I have not enough knowledge to do something like this. And not the equipment.
  22. Could you record something to let us listen to this ? In my experience patches from others often don't work on my setup. Its always kinda sound thin and a lil off.
  23. I too think in a live situation it would be a total waste to carry the kemper with me. Thats why I would like to have it just for me and maybe recording purpose. I might do it the same way i did it with the helix. Maybe get one and test it for a couple of week and if it can't convince me just send it back. Yesterday i tried to improve my Mark IV sound and its pretty exhausting. Took me at least 2 hours and trying several different IRs and setups to come to a point where i just switched to my current preset and think "yeah I guess I will just stick to that one". There are just some things the Helix can't provide.
  24. For your kind of patches you need some skills especially some creativity to even use this properly. Respect for such skills. I'm more the plain stupid kind of shredder compared to that. I don't NEED this kind of rig. The Helix would do everything for me. Its more the point that money doesn't hurt me ^^ and I'm a big child that wants his toys. And I'm old enough to don't have to ask anyone ;) And building patches should be at least the same fun as playing them. But in my example the Mark IV is definitely something different then the Mark V. So I came to the point were nothing brings me even close to my target. And I have no responsibilities YET. And as long as I can buy this stuff with a clear conscience I'm fine with that. Times may change ;) And carrying my gear is like wanking for me ^^
