  1. I had been struggling with this ever so slight hollow sound when with the Helix LT and my Engle Savage 120. I jus saw this, noticed my send/return was at 50% mix, increased it to 100% and it seems to have brought my amp back to stock sound. Thank you! I wonder why it defaults to 50%. When would you want it at 50%?
  2. @AC1DF0X one last question, how do you wire your ehx silencer with the helix and the Jvm? I am trying to figure out how that routes to the helix and loop with the jvm in 4cm.
  3. @AC1DF0X That makes sense. I will with the channel volume down a bit. I have noticed that with the helix and loop engaged I do get tone suck. It darkens and lowers the tone a bit. I have my inputs/outputs set the same as you and I did replicate your settings but there is a noticeable darkening of the tone. I wish I had a stomp box to check against it to see if it works. The new amp is acting better but I can reproduce the issue by OD2 Red, Gain at 5 out of 10, channel at 10 out of 10 and master at 5 out of 10. Not that I would use that but I was able to reproduce the error (loop and delay enabled). Thank you for helping me with this!
  4. @AC1DF0XWhere do you usually run your Channel volumes? Maybe a problem I have is my default behavior is to crank the channel and then tune up with the Master starting at 0 and going up to achieve what I want level wise. Maybe I should go more 4 out of 10 on the channel and crank the master more...
  5. @AC1DF0X Thank you for testing. On the helix I run the Precision Horizon gate at the start and in the loop; setting the threshold to like a 3 out of 10 in the loop. For the other amps (5150 types) it worked great at shutting down the hiss and noise. Let me know if that guide helps with the midi programming. I had my EVH amp set so I could press a footswitch to engage all effects in a scene and change channels. It was great. I am hoping to configure the JVM the same way.
  6. @Kingkid I was using 4CM, but have it wired as pictured above. Is that how you have it wired or do you wire it a different way? Thanks for the help! BTW, the preamp pictured after to loop was turned off so it isn't part of the chain.
  7. @AC1DF0XYep, that's the reason. That being said, I cared when I had 5150s or Mesa's. I would use this method to get a real channel on a 5150 or a 5150 or Marshall high gain tone on a Mesa. It added another channel the amp was missing. With the limited time I had with the JVM, I think that point is moot. It had a great clean, crunch, and then a Mid focused High Gain and Mid Scooped High Gain. Really, all I could ask for out of an amps offerings. I would love to hear what you experience is cabling it the way I do. I really am hoping that since it was a used amp from GC that the FX loop tube (or other FX loops related component) was bad and that the new one I have arriving next week will work just as well as the 5150 and Mesa does in this configuration. To recap, what I experienced was on OD 1 or 2 in Orange or Red mode with the gain around 3-4 out of 10 and the channel volume at 8 out of 10 but Master Volume at 1 out of 10 I would get an awful screeching noise that couldn't be gated or stopped. Turning on the delay in the loop (you can see it above) caused a massive feedback loop that also couldn't be muted without turning off the loop.
  8. Haha. One more thing @AC1DF0X , I apologize for the dust in those pics. Your Helix looks so pristine compared to mine!
  9. Thanks for the info! The way you have it set would be the way I was thinking would be the "standard" approach. What people want to do (and I am growing a little unconcerned about) is put a Send/Return block in there to bypass the JVM preamp and plug in another preamp model, thus giving you a Mesa preamp going through your JVM. It's very cool when you have a 5150 and need a clean channel, but since the JVM has so much versatility seems a little unnecessary. Would you mind doing me a favor and trying it the way I had it configured (as pictured). This would get you the JVM if the Send Return block is engaged and the Mesa Mark IV if the FX loop is off and the Amp block is On. What happened for me (with the JVM loop all the way to serial) was that when I had the Send Return block on and Amp Block Off and Delay On I would get a horrible repeating feedback. I do think it was a defective JVM FX loop (it was a used guitar center purchase) so I have a new one on the way from Sweetwater. I am just nervous this won't work and I rely on the Helix for all my FX. For Midi, after the picutures I have a link to the guide I was going to use. https://line6.com/support/topic/28901-marshall-jvm-channel-switching-with-helix-midi/ Thank you so much for the help! It is helping to ease my mind that it will work.
  10. Sorry to bump and old thread but I was having the same issue. 410H squealed to microphonic feedback with my Helix in 4CM. I tried balanced and unbalanced cables, plugging the Helix into anther wall socket away from the Marshall, activating ground lift, etc but it would work for a bit and then start to squeal into feedback that was ear splitting. I returned the amp to GC and have another on the way. Anyone have any ideas of what it could have been? I am worried the JVM loop won't be compatible with the 410h in 4cm which would mean I would have to replace my helix with pedals
  11. Hello, I have a Peavey Invective 120 that takes midi CC commands from the footswitch to change channel, turn on boost, etc. I have hooked the Helix up via midi and been able to use it to replace the footswitch (while also having it in the loops via 4CM for all that goodness) and it works to do what is expected. However, I have to remove the footswitch to do this. Ideally, I would like to have the FS connected for quick tweaks to a scene I have on he Helix (ie, use the FS to turn on boost on a scene that usually doesn't have it). The Invective has a midi out and says this in the manual: This amp is designed to be extremely functional with the included 10-button footswitch. The 8-pin footswitch jack also works as a standard 5-pin MIDI input - to go along with the standard 5-pin MIDI output. There are times when the amp will be run with other types of MIDI foot controllers, a PC in the studio, or by an automated rack rig - or linked to another Invective via MIDI. This is the information you need to mate this amp with other MIDI devices. NOTE: The MIDI Out will send data to another Invective (for function sync), to a PC (for 2-way communica- tion during remote control or preset dump), or to an effects unit in the effects loop. This jack does not act like an Out/Thru. Data received at the MIDI In doesn't result in data on the MIDI Out unless it was a valid message for this amp. Is there a way for me to connect the footswitch and the helix to send CC commands via both? Is there an adapter I need or some way to connect it I am missing? Thank you!
  12. Okay, I was able to get the knobs on the Akai Mini to work to change snapshots. I had to create an audio track with Helix, then an instrument track to output the MKMini to Helix. I armed both and assigned the preset to each knob. Then I used the Akai setup app to set min and max values of the 8 knobs aligning the min to correspond with a snapshot change. 0 for 1, 16 for 2, 34 for 3 and so on (guessing at the values). Now when I turn knob 5 it jump to snapshot 5. I couldn't get the drum pads to work likely due to velocity. If I hit them at different strengths they jump around... I wish I could figure out a way to just assign User Preset bank 22 to CC XX and so on. As I have it configured now I will need to load two or three amps and cabs and shut them on and off depending on section or song type. It's not a deal breaker for my use but at home sitting here practicing to back tracks I like to be able to switch quickly.
  13. One option I see for achieving what I need it simply adding a few amps to a preset and switching them on and off and saving them as a snapshot. Is there a way to switch snap shots using a midi keyboard controller as I described above? Perhaps this would be easier than the presets. I really only need about 6 sounds to practice with.
  14. Hello, I need help configuring Studio One on Windows 10 to use my Midi Keyboard to change presets. I have the keyboard armed as a midi device and sending to Helix Native which lights the midi button when I hit the drum pad. I cannot, however, figure out how to get it to do anything (adjust levels) but more importantly, switch presets. I use my amp sim plugins to play along with backing tracks for practice and need to be able to switch tones at button press. Any help you could provide would be much appreciated! If there are shortcuts I am missing to swap between presets on my qwerty keyboard that would likely solve the issue as well but I can't figure out any way other than clicking the preset with my mouse. Thank you!
  15. I figured I would update this after getting help from support in case anyone was in a similar situation. In the post area of the chain you can adjust the gain here. I was able to increase the gain and resave the preset to get it to compete with my other plugins volume wise. There may be a better way to do this, but this is working for me for now.
