Check tonex signal levels accesing tonex pedal 'trim' setting in global settings. Where do you connect the hx effects? A sound interface? Where do you connect the headphones to listen to hx global output? I have exactly the same setup with hx effects and a tonex pedal in a loop block and it works fine.

I have my hx effects tuner in coarse mode. However, I use a separate Boss TU-3 on my board as a tuner. I don't like the included tuner and this topic has been discused in other threads. Try different tunner modes and try by yourself. But yeah, it isn't at the same level as a dedicated tuner imho.

Hello, I am trying to do a patch to use with real amp live but use an IR to send the signal to front of house. The idea of the following preset is to use the 4 cable method, and the last signal to the amp (To amp loop return) goes from the send block. That works but the problem is that as soon as I activate the send block or the IR block the signal is not stereo anymore. I thought the Send block wouldn't affect the signal panning but it does. It makes it mono, even if I don't want it to affect the path signal. The goal is to send both left and right effects to amp loop return but maintain the PAN to get output 1 and output 2 to front of house separately. Anyone knows if this can be done? Thanks.

I just found a solution to this problem. I can set the mixer parameters for each snapshot. So, in this snapshot where the delay is off but the reverb is on, the B path is muted turning de volume of the B path to minimum. This way I avoid the guitar dry signal into the loop, which would cause phase issues due to it being also in the instrument input of the amp.

Hello, can an effects block be configured to cut completely the signal thru it when bypassed? The purpose is to use only wet blocks in a parallel loop. So, when effects disengaged, the signal must be cut. Can this be done?
-
Hello, I have this layout. The send is for the input of the amp. Can an effects block cut the signal when bypassed? I mean, my intention is to set reverb and delay full wet. And when I activate those effects, only the wet signal will go to the parallel loop. When the blocks are bypassed, I don't want any signal thru them, cause that would create phase issues (Same guitar signal on input and parallel loop effects return). Is any way to do that?

Just wanted to share this here. I know isn't in english but the subtitles are available.

Jus here to report the tests I've done. I just tried the method2 and IT WORKED :O I modified 2 guitar cables, cutting the ground from a side of each one. Then I connected them EXACTLY as the image of the first post. HXFX RETURN (Not grounded ring) -> AMP LOOP SEND (Grounded ring) HXFX OUTPUT (Not grounded ring) -> AMP LOOP RETURN (Grounded ring) The ground hum is completely gone. Maybe I will do a video. I will post it here. Thank you for the tip!

Sorry, just to clarify things. I don't get which send/return are you talking about, amp or hxfx. On the second method, you talk about "effects send and return that plug into the amp". Well, in the image the modded cables are the HX Return and OUTPUT. Not send. Other people puts a hum eliminator into (HXFX SEND -> Hum eliminator -> AMP INPUT) but in your image that cable isn't modified. So, to try grounding mod, do I have to do it in these cables? HXFX RETURN (Not grounded ring) -> AMP LOOP SEND (Grounded ring) HXFX OUTPUT (Not grounded ring) -> AMP LOOP RETURN (Grounded ring) Would this be correct? Thank you!

Hello, I am trying to use the line6 helix effects into a JVM410H head serial loop. The JVM has 2 loops, 1 serial/parallel and another serial with pre-amp out / power amp insert. I am using the second one. It is line level. I don't want to use the first loop as it has a wet/dry knob, so will never be a real series loop. How do I set up the outputs level in the Helix? I am using FX Loop 1 with 4CM. Right now, I have setted: FX1 loop BLOCK- Line level Block FX1 Send - Amp input: -14db (Line level reduced to instrument level) Block FX1 Return - Amp send: 0db (Line level loop) Main Output - Amp Return: 0db (Line level loop) Another option I tested: FX1 loop BLOCK- Instrument level Block FX1 Send - Amp input: 0db (Instrument level) Block FX1 Return - Amp send: -14db (Line level reduced to Instrument level) ALTHOUGH IF THE SIGNAL IS CLIPPING THE LEVEL REDUCTION WILL STILL HAVE THE CLIPPING SIGNAL. The main problem is that in the HX FX the level of the FX Loop 1 is within Send and Return, and in 4CM send goes to amp input (Instrument level) and Return comes from the amp loop (Line level). Does anyone has any suggestion?

Hello, I think I just found a solution I didn't know it existed, in the manual. Page 31. You can set a block independent to snapshots, what is exactly what you want. You can enter into this menu pushing 'Action' button on the HX FX while the block you want to edit is selected. This feature is a really game changer, really interesting to find this out. Press Snapshot Bypass to toggle On/Off state for this block. SNAPSHOT BYPASS:ON By default, all blocks are set to “On” to automatically control their bypass state via snapshots. Change to “Off” to disable snapshot control of the selected block’s bypass state. NOTE: The arrow at the right of this scribble strip indicates that there are more Action options on the next “page.” (You may alternatively see this indicator by itself on a scribble strip, depending on the type of block or menu selected.) Press the button to advance to the next page for other features.

I understand you now. You want the FS1 (Ext. amp) to be independent to snapshots. I don't know if this is possible. Did you find any solution?
-
I don't know if I understand you. You can send different ext.amp command PER snapshot. You have to save all commands from EVERY snapshot. So if you have 4 snapshots, you have to go to the snapshot in the editor. Change the ext.amp command behaviour and SAVE. Then change snapshot. Repeat. Different amp channels per snapshot IS POSSIBLE. Is this your problem? If you assign ext.amp command directly to a toggle, lets say FS1. The command state will be as it was saved on that snapshot1. If I save that snapshot1 with FS1 in amp crunch channel, then If I change to snapshot2, change the amp channel to clean, and go back to snapshot1, the toggle state will be as it was STORED. So, crunch mode (This is your problem). You have 2 solutions. Add Snapshot toggles in footswitch mode and save ext.amp command per snapshot with the lightnings. Or change the snapshot changing behaviour from the menu, you have an option for the device to remember the last snapshot state. So it will be as you left it when you leave that snapshot. For me the best solution is to add snapshot toggles in footswitch mode and add lightning commands for ext.amp switching.

Is the loop of your amp in parallel or series? If the loop is in parallel there is your problem. With a series loop I have more volume with the HX FX in 4CM with 0 blocks than a normal cable. If your loop is in series, try to check all the levels. Every block has it's level. Even the FX loop blocks. You can have +6db send and 0db+ return, as I have with my tonex pedal.

Thank you both. The thing that nobody mentions in any tutorial is the CC#00 Value. Tha was the key. I couldn't understand it from the user manual. The Tonex needs to receive 2 values from the HX. The CC#00 = 0 or CC#00 = 1 and the 'Program' value. SOLVED!

Hello, I am running a Tonex Pedal in a loop of a helix effects (Like a normal amp in 4CM) and I am trying to change tonex presets via MIDI. First off all, it's my first time using midi and I can't get it to work even watching all the tutorials from youtube. Midi cable: I have a cable from Out of HX FX to Tonex Pedal midi IN. Is this correct? SNAPSHOT 1: SNAPSHOT 2: If I select snapshot1 or snapshot2 always goes to the same Tonex Preset, the last one on the pedal. The number 49C. Does anyone experienced this?

Did you change the wiring on the pedal or within the config on hx effects? Because you can change the tip/ring config and the behaviour of the pedals on the hx....

Compensated is the signal it's made after the power tubes, the 'final' sound of the head including the master setting and the 'tubes saturation/state'. And it's frecuencies are compensated to be ready to record. However, it's the electrical signal without any cab sim. The loop only includes the sound of the preamp, In addition, I am already using the 2 loops on the HX effects. Reading the manual, the compensated out is exactly what I want. A signal where an IR will be aplied. I just tried this but Line level output has more output than Instrument level output, so this isn't the solution. I will maintain the first settings with -40db on the IR block.
-
I just found a setting option that I will try: I will change it to line level.

Hello guys, I am putting the compensated out signal from my Diezel Einstein into my HX Effects and then I add an Impulse response block there to that signal. However, yesterday I tried the output result into a mixer and the signal was clipping on the mixer very very hard. I had to lower the 'level' parameter of the IR block to -40db to be able to manage it from the mixer. Is any way to see the level of the signals into the helix? I don't know if the signal comes with too much gain into the Helix or is amplified within the helix after. FYI, I added a jack-XLR adapter into the main output of the HX effects, and routed into the XLR input of the mixer. Maybe this has something to do with the XLR preamp of the mixer or somehing like that. Because when using Jack or Line input I think the preamps are avoided and maybe the level is lower and more manageable. Thank you in advance.

I did another variation. My head has a compensated output that could be interesting to use to apply the IR to it instead of the return of the amp effects loop. The compensated out plug is after the power amp, and the loop return is not, so I would be capturing the entire amp sound instead of only the preamp. This is the layout. The HX Send is directly to the amp 'return/power amp'. The amp compensated out comes to HX Return and it applys the IR to it, then it goes to main output. It's the same layout as before but now I am using the 'compensated out' from the amp instead of using directly the amp loop return signal.

Hello, This has been my main preset until now. I am using a Diezel Einstein with 4 cable method, and I send the delay and reverb to the effects loop in parallel with each other. Now, I wanted to add an Impulse response in case I want to send the signal directly to the PA instead of MIC-ing. I ended doing this modification to the preset. The added Send now goes to the Amp effects loop Return. The IR would be affecting the main outputs of the HX effects. I think this will work but I was wondering if it is any other way for doing this. Perhaps connecting the Amp loop return to the main output on the helix (Like the old preset) and just sending the IR signal from the Send of HX effects. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, why TRS-TS cable? I use TRS-TRS cable with my expression pedal with the HX effects. Befor gathering online you should read the HX Effects user manual.
-
I recently bought a cheap but good one. Electro Harmonix dual expression pedal. It has selectable values that can be used with normal pedals too. It works well with my HX Effects. However, the transition and movement is not as smooth as a mission engineering one, but who cares, it costs half of it.

Hello, I had the same problem when setting up my snapshots with ext amp switching. There are 2 cases here. 1 - You change the ext amp behaviour with the lightning in command center 2 - You have an actual toggle with ext amp switching assigned to it and it will have 1 state for each snapshot (On/Off) What do you have in your preset? My main problem was that the behavior of the lightning into one preset, is DIFFERENT for each snapshot. And you have to set it up and save in EACH snapshot. So, if you are using the lightning method, you have to select snapshot 1, then select in command center the position of the ext amp jack (Tip, ring... etc). Then, you have to go to Snapshot 2, and do the same exact thing, AGAIN. In order to store the config into snapshot 2. The lightning will be assigned to all the snapshots, but the parameters that go with it have to be saved on each one, 4 times, 1 per snapshot. Also, be sure that if you are using this method, the options on ext amp in command center has the options like "tip 1", "tip 2". This is very important. The options with 1 are assigned to the 1 output Jacks. The options with 2 are assigned to the outputs with 2. I mean, If you have your amp switching cable connected into ext amp 1 output and you configure anything like "Tip 2", "Ring 2" "T+R 2" it won't do anything, because you are not using that hole in the hx unit. You should use Tip1, Ring1 etc with the ext amp 1 output/hole in the unit. For the toggle option, you have to do the same. Enter in each snapshot and save the position you want. 4 times, 1 per snapshot. Another very important setting is the behaviour of snapshot changes in "general settings", I think is it there. You can select if a snapshots stores it's state when navigating between snaps, or it will reset it's original state on each snap selection. In my case, I use always reset. I have a snap 1 setted, I go into it, I change things and I go into snap 2. When I go back to snap 1, the snap 1 will be as original state, again, it won't remember what changes did I do to it before the snap change. But in the case you want the snapshots to remember the changes, even if you navigate between them, you can do it changing the settings. I don't remember exactly where it is but somewhere into general settings. Hope this helps.
