Okay. Thanks.

Was wondering if that green signal light is supposed to light up occasionally or not. Mine doesn't flash on at all when I play. Or does that pertain to just using a microphone? Not sure about how those other push-in knobs are supposed to be set either. I'm just playing my Strat into my POD.

Just tried putting second noise gate right after the amp head (but before the mixer). Not very good there. Noisy. Also tried putting noise gate after the amp head (and after the mixer). No good there either. Noisy. Seems to work the best right before the amp head. Guess I will keep it there.

I'm playing a Strat with a fairly powerful single coil in both the bridge and the neck and at the moment am just using one noise gate at the start of my signal chain threshold currently set at 60%. Would like to make it a little quieter but instead of raising the threshold more to reduce the hum I was wondering if it would be a better idea or is it more effective to use two noise gates. Perhaps putting the second one right before the amp head?

What is the name of your patch so I can find it? It does sound better than anything I've been able to come up with.

You don't have to run the output through any external amp or PA. The POD is a self-contained practice amp emulator. I plug my guitar into it and then plug my headphones into it and I'm done. I have it connected to my computer thru USB for recording purposes, but other than that I just plug into it and play. Far as I know that's what they were designed for. I guess if a person wanted to they could bring it to a gig and use it in conjuction with an real guitar amp, but I don't use it in that manner. I think the POD outperforms an amp for people like me who live in apartments and can't play through an amp loud. The POD has awesome sound and amps in it.

Thanks for the info.

Thank You for the specific tonal parameters. I will try them out. Thanks much.

When opening HD Pro X Edit the tones don't transfer and I get an error message. Something about invalid data in one or more patches. Has anyone else experienced this?

Who is being a smart a...? I said I'm trying to get a good sound out of the JCM-800 and then someone asked me what amp I'm using. That's not being a smart a... and I apologize if I'm being misinterpreted. The amp is the JCM-800. Not trying to be a jerk but I get the feeling you guys are using your POD's in a way different manner than I am.
-
What amp am I using? I'm using the JCM-800 in the POD. That's what you do. You plug your guitar into the POD. I don't use the POD with an amp. Why would you do that? The POD is an amp emulator. You plug your guitar into the POD and make a preset based on the amp models available.

Geez...Japanese Strats put American Strats to shame in case you didn't know. Plus I'm using Dimarzio and Duncan pickups in there along with a Callaham bridge and block. Geez...

I've been experimenting with the Treadplate and the Angel Fireball. While I generally like the sound of both those amps they always sound kinda harsh and shrill in the treble strings. They have a nice big, large sound which I like and they have loads of gain which I like also, but how do I tame the shrillness and ice-pickyness? I'm currently not using any Equalizers cuz they seem hard to use.
-
In the X3 the JCM-800 sounded just great. What's up with that amp now? I got HD Pro X and the JCM-800 just sounds farty and too distorted and overdriven. Have not had any real success with that amp so far? I'm looking for a good solid rock/metal tone ala Zakk Wylde, Scorpions, etc that is hi gain but yet clear and maintains transparancy. I'm using a Japanese Strat.
-
Thanks. I'll put it before my Overdrive. I'm using a Strat with Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Blues pickups.
-
I've decided to try and experiment with adding a compressor to my chain. Should I put it before the Overdrive or after? And how do I go about setting the Threshold and Level? I'm looking to punch up my sound a bit and help decaying notes last a bit longer.

I like the sound of the Plexi, but It's not hot enough. If I could soup it up or make it sound much more punchy I would use it. So how do I hot rod the Plexi?
-
I read in that HD Guide that you can use a Q Filter before the distortion pedal to act as a boost. So I tried it and it does indeed seem to give my guitar a more punchy tone. Kinda like boosting the distortion pedal to send a hotter signal to the amp. I'm currently using it with a Brit J-45 and I'm getting a pretty good Malmsteen type tone. I tried the Q Filter with the Plexi and the results weren't so good. The thing about the Q Filter is it can sound like a nasally wah pedal. Are there any other ways to boost the Plexi and push it into more overdrive so I can get a punchy more aggressive tone?

I'm playing a Japanese Strat with Duncan YJM Furys into my POD HD Pro X. I'm using the Brt J-45 Head with a Celestion Greenback 25 cabinet. Currently using a 409 Dynamic microphone. I have the Low Cut Cab Parameter set to 50 Hz. I like my sound but my complaint is it's dark. I mean kinda on the muffled, bassy side. I've experimented with the Parametric and Graphic EQ but it still seems to sound too dark. If I could keep the basic sound the same but just remove some of the bassiness and add some sparkle and mids/treble that's what I'm looking for. But I haven't been able to do it yet. Are there certain Equalizers and certain frequencies I should be working with? I like the sound of Greenbacks but they sure sound like a dark speaker to me. Can you help remove some of the darkness and bring me into the light?

Looks like you need a foot controller to use the Looper. That's a no-go with me.
-
Is it possible to record a passage of me playing something and record it with the built-in looper, and then have the POD just continually play it back while I monkey with the EQ at the same time? It's kinda a pain to play and monkey with turning knobs at the same time.
-
So if I want to set a narrow bandwith (Q) I would rotate the Q knob clockwise (to the right)? And if I want to set a wider bandwidth I would rotate it counter-clockwise to the left? Yes?
-
I'd like to begin experimenting with the Parametric EQ but I'm lost as to how to use it. Right now I have a guitar sound that is pretty darn good but it's sounding a little too murky and bassy. I think I need some more mids and treble. I'd appreciate some specific instructions on how to use that EQ. For example, the 3rd knob from the left is the Freq knob. Do I first set that to what percentage I want to cut or boost, and then once that is set do I move over to the Gain know and raise or lower it? The first and second knobs from the left are for lows and highs. What do I do with those? And then there is the Q knob. How do I use that?
-
So I just read that you shouldn't use a noise gate but instead use a hard gate. Supposedly the noise gate alters tone much more than a hard gate. But I don't have a clue as to how to set it. If it's any help to you, I play with my volume wide open pretty much all the time when I practice with my HD Pro X. I don't really play any soft notes, but I'm balls to the wall pretty much all the time. Can someone give me some tips on how to set it up?

Thank You. That has helped.
