I don't use a real amp. I just plug into the POD.
-
Let's say I've chosen the JCM800 Pre to play through. So I have that plus I've chosen a cabinet. Guess what? I have sound. But isn't a preamp supposed to be paired with a power amp? I don't see any power amps in the POD. So do I just accept the fact that in the POD a power amp isn't needed?

I like using the 4 x 12 Celestion Greenback cab in my POD HD Pro X but it has a very noticeable "dark" sound to it. I'd like to know which frequencies I can perhaps cut a bit to remove some of this dark boominess. It's a shame Line 6 made the Equalizers so hard to understand. Right now, I'm not even using the Equalizers because I haven't learned how yet, although I saw Matt's video on YouTube in which he talked about the various percentages corresponding to certain frequencies. I still don't know which order to adjust the knobs which I think you have to know.

I mean presets for the HD Pro or HD Pro X. Not the X3 or those earlier models.
-
I too use Reaper. If you look in Reaper Options - Preferences and find Audio Device the HD Pro X should be listed there. Make sure it is selected. You will also need to select the correct inputs under Enable Inputs.

I too have used the X3 for years and years and was totally happy with the tone. In fact, the first HD Pro I tried seemed very unresponsive. I could not get a good tone out of it. I just received a new POD HD Pro X and it's working much better for me than the HD Pro did. Maybe I got a defective unit? Maybe I just had too many dials set wrong. Everything I've read about the HD Pro has said that it's not plug and play easy. The learning curve is much steeper but the sound of the amps are better than the models in the X3. I wish I could offer you more specific help than this. Keep experimenting and reading. Trying downloading some ready-made patches and try tweaking them. Don't give up the ship yet. Which specific model POD do you have?

I did find two videos on YouTube on how to build a Malmsteen Style Preset, but I was hoping there would be some on the Custom Tone site. Can't find any.

There are many different settings to choose from going from Auto to 3.5M. Which setting do I choose for my Strat?
-
I pulled the trigger and ordered one. Looking forward to spending time with it. Will Line 6 be adding more amp models to it?
-
Yeah I kinda suspected it operated like the HD Pro, but most of the people who have one have said they feel the sound is superior to the X3. I got lotsa time to get to know it.

Been thinking about trying an HD Pro X. I wasn't even aware Line 6 came out with a new model. I'm currently using the X3 Pro which works very well for me for the most part. I tried an HD Pro and I found it more difficult to dial in my tone. But I'm certainly willing to spend time monkeying with another one (I have a nice discount coming to me). Are you happy with your HD Pro X?

I mean is there a way to reduce the buzziness of the T-75 speaker in the POD X3. I'm not playing through an amp. I practice with my POD X3 Pro.
-
A T-75 is not a Greenback. A T-75 is a T-75 which is a 75 watt speaker.
-
Is there a way to reduce the buzziness of the Celestion T-75 speaker? I've always liked the sound of it but it has a buzzy and fizzy sound to it. Is there a certain frequency that can be adjusted to alleviate this?

New problem: Tones are gone or Search engine is shot. When I do a search for Kiss or Van Halen or Yngwie Malmsteen it just keeps saying No tones found. They're all gone.
-
Because Line 6 is ending support for Legacy products.
-
I'm wondering if the Custom Tone part of this site for the X3 will be removed on the first of the year. I hope not.

The problem with amps is that they're not necessarily made to sound good at whisper bedroom levels. They're designed for the stage and live sound reproduction. This is where the POD wins. I can come extremely close to a true amp sound. Sure the POD sounds a little sterile since it's not a real amp, but I personally feel that is a minor deal compared to the overall nice Marshall or Soldano tone I can get. If I lived in this building myself where I could crank an amp then maybe I would, but I don't think you can beat the POD for applications where you want not to be overheard.

I'm currently using a POD X3 Pro which I feel works very well for me. I did try an HD Pro for awhile and to tell you the truth I was kinda disappointed. It appeared the equalizers did nothing to alter the sound. When I invoke the equalizers on my X3 Pro I hear a noticeable difference. I heard practically no difference when I added equalization to my guitar tone when using the HD Pro. Have you guys gotten the equalizers to work? Other things were a letdown as well (like the Greenbacks and I think some of the mics). I do recall some people saying that the HD Pro requires more tweaking to dial in a good tone but they felt that the tone of the HD is better than that of the X3. There are a few HD Pros going for cheap and I'm wondering if I should pick one up and give it another try. I usually use the Marshall JCM800 amp since I'm into hard rock and metal. I do like the Soldano and the Engl too.

I believe I do remember the manual talking about signal to noise ratio. When you work with a real live amp you can set one volume high and the other low to overdrive the preamp. Very common thing to do. I was just wondering if the makers of the X3 included that emulation.

I've downloaded several presets from the Custom Tone part of the site and I've noticed that on some of them (even Van Halen presets) the person who made the preset has the gain on the amp at around 5 or 6 and the volume at around 5 or 6 or 7. What I have always done is crank the gain up higher to around 8 or 9 and run the amp volume higher as well, around 8 or 9. I simply like a high gain tone. But I'm wondering if there is something I'm missing. Is there a reason to make a Van Halen preset and only put the volume on 6? And the gain on 6? Are you supposed to run the amp volume or tone volume lower and then crank up the POD's master volume? Is there a difference between keeping the gain high and the volume high while keeping the master volume low, and keeping the gain low and the amp volume low and running the master volume high?

Is there a way to get any more amp models into the POD X3 Pro?

I've only used one signal path on my X3 Pro and I've been fairly satisfied. I'm just wondering what playing through two signal paths is like? Could I get a thicker sound that way? Like play through a JCM 800 on one path and a JCM 2000 on the other?
