  1. I'm using single-coils so if I could get it set right it would be the best way for me to go. But it's too complicated to set. First you got Open then you got Close then you got Hold then you got Decay. Would it be the simplest to first turn all four dials all the way to the left? Then just start with the first dial which is called Open? But where does that get set? I'm having chop...chop...notes are getting cut off sharply. It sounds very unnatural. Trying to figure out how to set it so it sounds as if nothing is there. It is better at preserving tone than the noise gate is, but it's way harder to understand how to set it up. And Me-Am-Bobo and his guide merely give data. He doesn't give instructions on which dial to set first and which to set second. I need some kind of plan of execution here. Which dial should I start with? Which dial is second? What should I be listening for when I make my adjustments?
  2. I've been using mostly the Park 75 for my amp model as it gives me a genuine Malmsteen tone which I have been using exclusively. But the thing about the Park is that it is a little on the thin side especially in the treble, and I play a maple Strat so I think I would like to experiment a little at finding some amp models that sound a little thicker (mostly in the treble). I also like to use single-coils on occasion in addition to my humbuckers so I use both types of pickups in my Strat. Can you give me some amp recommendations that will give me a thicker tone without sounding too overly thick? I don't want to sound like Machine Head or Suicidal Tendencies or Slipknot or any of these modern death metal zombies. If I could find an amp that resembles the Park or Marshall but just sounding a bit thicker that is what I'm looking for.
  3. I'll stick to what I'm presently doing then. If I decide to switch to Linux I will need to get the POD working with Linux. I'm working with a guy that might have some info on how to get that going.
  4. What trouble? All I'm asking is to use my POD with Linux. I don't see how that is an unreasonable request. What do you mean just plug into your phone and jam along? To jam along you gotta use the POD with a sequencer which is on your computer. You gotta use Reaper or some other DAW to play the backing track while you play the guitar. Unless the POD has some king of ability to play WAV file backing tracks right from within itself, which is news to me.
  5. Was wondering... If all I want to do is play my Strat along with a backing track listening using headphones, will this work okay if I'm using Linux? Reason I ask is I'm thinking about switching to Netrunner for awhile anyway and I know now that my EMU 1212 sound card will work with Linux, but I don't know if my POD will work with Linux. But if I am not interested in doing any recording into a DAW, but rather just playing along with a backing track, maybe I can still do this even with Linux? Watcha think?
  6. Well fortunately some people have uploaded fantastic presets for getting the Malmsteen tone. They nail it right on the money, and that is mainly what I got the HD Pro X for. I know this is the wrong forum to ask but what is the consensus on the Helix?
  7. Every time I enter Ritchie Blackmore or Judas Priest or Scorpions or Michael Schenker or Made in Japan or Made in Europe...the search tells me "no results." This happens way too often. Perhaps I'm using it wrong. When you search for a tone that emulates a guitarist, what should you enter? Do you enter the name of a song, or the name of an album, or the name of the guitarist or what? It's kinda hard for me to enter the name of the preset, cuz I don't know what the creator of the preset called it.
  8. I meant the model pack you are referring to. Maybe I got the name wrong. Good news for me then. I was hoping I could install these additional amps right into the unit. Also good news in hearing that the 2204 is better sounding. Thanks.
  9. Just wanted to make sure I am clear on something. If I bought the Metal Pack Model Pack for the HD Pro X I would be getting the Marshall JCM-800 Model 2204 plus the Peavey 5150. Correct? Another question is are these model packs only accessible to user through the HD Pro Edit software, or do they actually go in the HD Pro X unit itself? And what is the difference between the Marshall JCM-800 that is already in the HD series units, and the 2204 which is available when you buy the model pack?
  10. I tried it. All I got was more treble response. And my preset automatically shut it self off. Maybe some kind of built in protection mechanism built in to the X3. Hope I didn't fry anything.
  11. I believe in the past I have tried to use an overdrive pedal in front of my X3. Didn't work too well. But I was wondering how about hooking the pedal into the effects loop on the back of my X3 Pro? Or is the effects loop on the X3 designed for a different purpose? Can anyone shed some light on this? Just looking for another way to beef up my tone.
  12. I experimented a little more and it's sounding better now. I noticed that before there were only two icons and sliders available in the Volume Controls dialog box that you can see when you right-click the speaker icon on the taskbar. Now there is a third icon that has just appeared and it says something like high definition audio interface or something similar to that. I can't remember exactly what the icon and slider were named. So now I'm thinking that I may not have had something set up correctly before. I'm going to continue to monkey around a little. I'll post if I have more questions or problems. By the way my JBL speakers are powered.
  13. Today I brought my JBL Speakers out of the closet and hooked them up to my POD X3. Tried listening to a CD but unfortunately it does not sound right. The sound is very weak, like it's missing power or something. I can't see anything wrong. The ASIO POD X3 Driver is selected, to me everything looks like it is set correct, but it sounds pretty pale. I may have to abandon this idea.
  14. Forgot to ask and just to be sure, I plug my speakers into the back of the POD where it says 1/4 line inputs correct? And how do I set that switch that says Output Level Line or Amp? Thanks.
  15. Thank You So Much. I will give it a try.
  16. I put my desktop computer in the closet for awhile because I wanted to buy a notebook and enjoy a smaller footprint and a more compact setup. Only problem is I cannot plug in my real nice JBL Speakers into my notebook. My JBL speakers use quarter inch phono plugs. But I do have a POD X3 Pro. So I was wondering if there is a way I can plug the cables coming out of my JBL's into the back of my POD X3 Pro, and be able to enjoy those fantastic sounding speakers. I have never done this. All I know is I would be using my X3 as my sound card and obviously my POD would have to be on for me to use my desktop speakers. What do you think?
  17. I was wondering if I picked up noise gate stomp box and ran it in the effects loop of my POD X3 Pro if that would significantly tame the loud hum the pickup gives off? I'm already using the built-in noise gate but I'm afraid if I turn the threshold too much higher I will lose tone.
  18. I got sound finally, although I'm not thrilled will the EQ. I'm currently using the EQ in iTunes to inject some life in the sound. Is there any way I can use the equalizer in the X3 to enhance the sound coming out of the speakers?
  19. Not using my iPod. iTunes is installed and I'm playing that on my laptop. My X3 Pro is hooked up to my laptop with a USB cable.
  20. My speakers are JBLs with quarter-inch phono jacks so they should match the jacks on the POD perfect. So far, I hear no sound. I got the patch cables (guitar cables) I think they are balanced cables going from the Line Outs on the POD to the inputs of my speakers, and I got the switch set to Line. Maybe I gotta set the Outputs correctly on the front LCD screen or something.
  21. Okay I hope I can find the correct jacks on the back.
  22. I just acquired a laptop and I was wondering if I could hook up my powered speakers to the back of the X3 so I can listen to my iTunes music thru my nice powered JBLs? I certainly don't want to hurt any components that's why I ask.
  23. I've got a Duncan Pickup Booster that I'm using in the effects loop on the back of my X3 Pro. I have a great sounding hot-rodded Plexi going now. I'm not sure I have the cords coming from the input and output of the pedal plugged into the correct jacks on the back of the X3. I currently have a cord running from the stompbox input to the X3 FX Send Left Mono. And the second cord is running from the stompbox output to the X3 FX Return Right. Is this correct?
  24. I have a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal which I would like to plug my guitar into first and then run that into the guitar input of my POD X3. I just wanted to ask if this is safe, I don't want to fry an input due to a too strong signal coming into it. I wouldn't be boosting it all that much anyway. Safe to do?
