I just powered up my X3 Bean just so I could look into the screen. I don't see anything different about the parameters in the X3 Bean than what I see in the X3 Pro. Beats me why I'm not getting a signal.
-
It says Tone 1 On underneath that it says Match Studio Direct Digital 48KHZ Rate and 0DB Level and S/PDIF Format. Don't see a USB Mix L channel. Don't know anything about that. Under the word Last there are 8 USB channels. You told me awhile back to choose 7. Tone 1 Dry so I could have a totally dry guitar signal recorded in Reaper. Channel 8 is called Tone 2 Dry. I'm just recording Tone 1 wet and Tone 1 dry. Anyway right now I'm not concerned about recording two tones. I have to figure out why I'm not getting any signal.

I picked up a POD X3 Pro because I wanted one (now I have both the X3 Bean and the X3 Pro). Problem is I cannot record my guitar with the X3 Pro. I chose the correct driver under ASIO driver in Reaper. Under enable inputs I chose what I usually choose and that is First Mix L and Last Tone 1 Dry. I armed a track but when I hit CTRL + R to record nothing happens. I don't get a signal coming into the track. So I'm suspecting that something is not set correctly somewhere. I have posted two screenshots for you to look at. Don't know what is wrong.

The reason I asked the question about running a distortion in the FX Loop of a POD, is because I tried plugging my guitar into a distortion pedal or overdrive, and then going from that output into the guitar input of the POD. If I remember correctly the resultant sound wasn't very good. That's why I asked about running it in the loop.

"Not configuring it appropriately for the Helix preset..." Can you elaborate a little? I'm getting a POD X3 Pro also, which I believe has an FX Loop too.
-
It's my understanding that you can use an external pedal (like a distortion) in the Send and Return jacks at the back of the Helix. Is the resultant sound fairly good or is it quite bad?
-
Yeah I thought they would be separate presets. They did sound awful. Thank You for your help.
-
I guess I will not be sending two different presets into Reaper. The resulting sound was a distorted, muddy mess. I tend to play with a lot of gain and I think what I will do instead is send a wet track and a dry track into Reaper. I think that is a better idea and will sound cleaner.

I disabled the FX on both tracks and the playback sounds fine. When I enable the FX again, I hear that balance glitch. Then I disabled my Melda Double Tracker on one of the tracks, and it sounds okay. I only have two plug-ins on each track: Melda Dynamic EQ and Melda Double Tracker

Well it appears that I successfully got both tones recorded on different tracks. But the problem is if I listen to both tracks at the same time, it appears an audio glitch shows itself. When listening to both tracks at the same time, there are a few spots that it sounds like the balance is shifting. Kind of like someone is monkeying around with the balance control when I'm listening to the playback. Don't know what is causing that. I posted a question on the Reaper forum too.

I've got four good sounding presets on my POD X3, and now I would like to hear how two of them would sound together. So how would I record Tone 1 to one track and Tone 2 to another track in Reaper? If that can be done?
-
I just thought of copy and paste. Couldn't I just record as I normally do (one wet signal and one dry signal) and when I'm done recording, just delete the wet track and copy and paste the dry track onto another empty track.

I was wondering if it's possible to send two dry signals into my recording software, which is Reaper. Instead of sending one wet signal and one dry signal. If I could send two dry signals into Reaper, then I could put an amp sim on each signal which would be cool and probably sound quite good.

I've just recently heard about this POD Express. I guess the amp models are based on what is in the Helix. I tried the Helix and I couldn't get a real, nice loud heavy sound out of it. I play hard rock and metal, and I know it's gotta be possible with the Helix, but I was not able to do it so I sent it back. In the POD Express favor it has delays and choruses and effects like that, where the Boss IR-2 does not have any built in effects which is a disadvantage. I probably would have to buy a separate delay pedal and run it in the effects loop. But I would like to ask if anyone here has purchased a POD Express and do you feel you're pretty happy with it? Would you recommend it? Can you get a real nice sound out of the JCM-800 (which is the amp I always use in my X3)? Post your impressions.

...when I tried one I couldn't get a nice, heavy, chunky guitar sound out of it. I'm a Marshall man. I love Marshalls. Not the Plexi so much but the JCM-800. My X3 has an awesome sounding 800. I love it. But when I tried the Helix they must have modeled a different 800. Just didn't really like the sound I got out of it. I have seen a few YouTube demonstrations and the guys do appear to be getting good, chunky guitar sounds, so I don't know what I did wrong. Have any of you been able to get good heavy metal type sounds out of it?
-
But what would change the sound of the dry signal (unless I'm mistaken), would be if I switched to a different guitar. Yes?
-
Thank You.

I have about 5 different presets in my POD X3. Each preset using the same amp which is the JCM-800. But each preset sounds different, perhaps due to variations in effects chain or something else. When I record my guitar into Reaper, I now send a wet signal plus a dry signal into Reaper. Then when I'm done recording, I'll experiment with putting amp sims and effects on the dry track. My question is this: Do each of my 5 presets send a little different sounding dry track into Reaper? Or technically, is the sound of the dry track the same with each preset? If the dry sound of each preset really is different, this is going to most likely affect the sound I'm hearing when I add amp sims and effects.

Okay will give it a go when I get my Strat back. Thank You.

So I find out that A-flat is 415 Hz but I can't turn the ref knob to the value. What is the easiest way to tune to E-flat using this build-in tuner?
-
I read about turning a ref knob. So if normal tuning is A at 440 HZ, what frequency would A-flat be? I tune my guitar a half-step flat.
-
What is that?
-
When you say amp do you mean the amp block in the POD? Or are you talking about using the POD with a real amp?
-
So if a person wanted to try a DOD YJM 308 Overdrive Pedal, are you saying they would plug their guitar into the pedal first and then go from the output of the pedal to the input of the POD?
-
I don't have an effects loop on the back of my X3 Bean, but the X3 Pro does. Has anyone tried putting a stomp box in the effects loop of one of these PODs? Like even the HD or the Helix? Just wondering if it sounds quite good or quite bad.
