But that means you're recording a Stereo mix of ( say ) the iTunes track mixed with the guitar feed - on the Helix ( or Pod ) itself, whereas I want my guitar to go to a separate track in Ableton and the iTunes Stereo track to go to another track in Ableton and be able to change mix levels after recording. I'm afraid its not quit what i'm after but thanks for the suggestion :)

Concerning using an iPad Air 2 with Apple Camera Connection Kit connected directly to HELIX - I would like to be able to do the following but failed in my attempts to do it: 1 ) Use HELIX as the main audio Stereo output device ( via helix XLR stereo outputs to the monitors or headphones ) 2) Record Helix guitar into a DAW on the iPad via the Helix USB link ( Cubasis, GB etc ) 3) play back and/or record other iOS music audio trough the iPad DAW - for example Cubasis synth and drum parts, 4) have the iPad DAW ( and the iPad ) send the mixed stereo DAW output back to HELIX over USB to feed the final Stereo (XLR ) outputs on the Helix and on to my monitors/phones. In other words all the audio in and out of the iPad goes IN/OUT via USB to/from the Helix and gets finally output to my monitors via Helix XLR outputs. Anyone managed to achieve this with the camera connection kit ? I haven't.
  3. I posted a separate entry on this but might s well ask this here too: I'd like to know how to Record both iTunes & Helix USB Gtr into Ableton using Helix for Stereo too on OSX. In the process of discovering and playing about with Helix patches so that if inspiration strikes it all gets recorded. I'd rather not instead have to drag any backing track into Ableton as that takes time - commits one - and kills inspiration. Also i could possibly be using Band In A Box instead of iTunes. I'd like to be using the HELIX USB interface as both the stereo master outs from my Ableton, while having my Helix guitar on USB 1/2 on one track and backing tracks etc coming in from iTunes into a second stereo input. Now to divert iTunes or other audio apps one can use SoundFlower - setting the main OSX output option to point to Soundflower instead of the stereo outputs. One then specifies in Ableton that the ableton stereo outputs go NOT to the main mac outputs ( i.e. headphone set ) but instead to HELIX USB. Now of course this requires Soundflower to be the audio input in Ableton but I ALSO want to feed in the Helix stereo outputs with my guitar noodling on it. So....... for this one is supposed to use the Aggregate Audio Interface option in OSX to combine ( presumably ) the Helix interface AND Soundflower ( to route iTunes/BIAB etc into Ableton instead of to the main mac outputs ). But....... I cannot seem to get this method to work !!! Has anyone managed to successfully solve this problem ? Ie be able to record both the Helix output ( over USB ) AND a separate track receiving iTunes music ( or output from - say band in a box ) Cheers and have a nice Helix Day !

  5. I'm in favour of this - trouble is there is very limited time in the Helix for this - due to storage limitations. A great shame. Which is why I have proposed an add-on device - some kind of pedal that includes an SDHC card slot to hold a huge amount of looper-time. In future Helixes this could be built in. In the meantime adding my suggestion will allow Helix to become an UBER-LOOPER !! :) Here is my own Feature request: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Extend-Looper-capability-with-add-On-pedal-w-SDHC-memory-card/802351-23508?submitted=1 Extend Looper capability with add-on unit w SDHC memory card Idea Actions "Manufacture an add-on device - say a second Swell pedal - or a foot-controller-extension WITH a built-in slot for an SDHC card on the side and a USB socket to be connected to the main Helix ( via USB of course ). If necessary some kind of USB-Splitter thing could be built-in so that while this SDHC extender pedal is connected to the main Helix the Helix can still connect over USB to any other device - say a computer or iPad etc.. for audio etc. The Helix Looper software could then be modified significantly to support very advanced types of Looper functionality - making use of the storage of the SDHC card - accessed over the USB connection. The current Helix unfortunately does not have an SDHC card slot - which would have allowed Helix to have much more power due to the vastly increased storage capacity of such 1GB+ memory cards - easily available and cheap. The new breed of looper pedals are now supporting such SSD based cards and they allow not only for minutes to hours worth of Looping/recording time - but extend features such as playing backing tracks - multi tracks - and more importantly - allowing SEVERAL SEPARATE LOOPS to be built-up and triggered independently. Having had the Helix for only a short amount of time - the sheer power and user-friendliness of the LCD Scribble-strips above each pedal only makes me want even more pedals-with-LCD-Scribble-Strips. So I think another way to add my "SDHC extender unit" to the Helix product range would be to produce an add-on foot pedal controller unit - similar to say the HELIX CONTROL - but maybe with less switches ( 4, 8, whatever ) and maybe with a swell pedal - AND containing that vital SDHC slot. And then of course - in future Helix models - Helix II - such a SDHC slot ( and functionality ) can simply be built into the main Helix unit itself - to make Helix into the end-all of Loopers as well as multi-fx boxes !"

In this mode each switch would have dedicated scribble-strip names i could customise. This would operate in there same way now can switch in and out of the LOOPER mode and allow for control of stuff like Ableton or external loopers- whatever I realise there is some existing MIDI controller functionality for foot-switches already. But I need the scribble strips AND the foots-switches to ONLY act as MIDI controllers in this mode - while being able to return to normal control of effects etc by exiting this. This would be much in the similar fashion to how we currently enter or exit the LOOPER mode in the Helix This might be used for example to control Loops or scenes in Ableton over MIDI via mapping - or some kind of sequencer control during live mode. A single pedal would have to be dedicated to EXIT - to exit back to normal mode.

  9. I've only had my Helix since friday - and frankly i'd love this thing EVEN IF the sounds and amp sims were was exactly the same as my old Pod HD 500 ! The benefits of the colour LCD screen user interface and those scribble strips and colour LEDs - is the KILLER APP in my opinion !
