  1. Anyone here who's purchased the pack - and is a "crunch" or "clean" type of player who goes for tones more like say fusion guys like Robben Ford, Scofield, Larry Carlton - and their tones - rather than HM or more high gain "shredder" type stuff care to comment on whether the pack suits that sort of playing too ? Something more "Creamy" - ?
  2. I am beginning to experiment more with my building my own tones. But when it came to things like the complex delays, reverbs and modulation devices - EVEN though i understand technically what most options and knobs do - how they actually combine to make different effects is beyond me. There are at least three IdeaScale request for the ability to save and recall any effects setting for any effect, or amp. If one wants to encourage owners to really try and make their own tones it would really help - particularly for those that have never owned one of the more advanced effects with lots of options like delays, reverbs and EQs. Line 6 could create a bunch of FACTORY presets for each effect - to show off just what each effect is capable. And could add FACTORY presets for EQs to handle typical real-life needs - such as boomy acoustics etc.. This would be very useful in learning what each effect is capable of. Here are the three IdeaScale entries. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Helix-store-your-favorite-set-item-in-the-effect-library/796398-23508 http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Presets-for-a-pedal/741389-23508 http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Presets-per-effect/799692-23508

  4. sure. i was just wondering why Scott prefers the sound of whatever is in the Pitch shifter algorithms. And whether others here prefer the pith shifter for chorus type sounds.
  5. there are several different DSP technologies used in products such as DAWs such as Ableton and in plugins etc to deliver both time and pitch shifting. Companies such as zPlane and AutoTune and TC Electronic etc licence them. Of the many schemes to do pitch shifting - one uses a technique called granular synthesis. without getting into details - it introduces artefacts - well they all do in fact but of course as tech progresses the makers of these try to minimise such things. Having said this - of course Ableton and DAWs usually have the advantage in that the audio is already in place and the processing isn't necessarily having to be done in real-time - as of course **is** the case for HELIX or H9 etc.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_time-scale/pitch_modification http://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/granular-synthesis
  6. Is the Pitch shifter some kind of granular or other pitch-time shift algorithm effect thing like the suite of such DSP effects zPlane licenses to Ableton and other DAW makers ? and why do some like it as an alternative to delay or chorus type sounds ? I notice Scott Minck ( HELIX Channel ) uses it a lot in his patches but i always thought it was kind of weird because most pitch shifting technologies out there degrade the original sound somewhat - admittedly the tech is getting better every few years... but still
  7. Question Thiboult :- do these FREMEN presets come each clearly labelled as to whether they're made for a humbucker guitar, single-coil Strat type, or P90 single coil ? or are just general purpose ? I'd like to know - and even sort presets according to which model (JTV) or mag pickup to use.
  8. Anyone who already owns Glenn Delaune and HELIX Channel presets AND these FREMEN ones care to comment ? I own some GDL and HELIX Channel presets but have to commit time to setting them up and buying IRs ( in case of HC ) so am curious if its worth just focusing on Fremen - I want to get to a limited set of patches that i can just run with for a long time- basically gert over this incessant downloading of CustomTone - maybe learn how to set up amp tones myself - dunno but as someone not used to setting up amps for crunch or OD much - dunno if to bother learning or just get the best patches and tweak those... decisions decisions !
  9. One of the best Jazz guitarists ever - Ed Bickert - highly praised by Jim Hall and many others. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLfdVWakNK0NC9lpSeI_PMLbEahZi8Bzl
  10. Holly Cole ! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLfdVWakNK0OGaQQaJiww0l4-JVxzcDGC
  11. I imagine its the level set by the Channel Volume knob in the current patch - but could be wrong.
  12. Hi davidb7170 could you possibly post those acoustic patches for the JTV on CustomTone ?
  13. [ SOLVED !!!! ONE OF MY JACKS WAS PLUGGED INTO PHONES SKT BY MISTAKE ! ] in 2.0 - I've got studio monitors wired to XLRs and PA wired at same time via the 1/4" jacks - using the LINE option in globals for BOTH. But when using the PA i seem to get a heavy WET signal in one speaker ( reverb ) and a much louder basically dry thing to the other. weird. This is even though I have the 1/4" output set in GLOBAL to LINE and not INSTRUMENT. the non LEFT/MONO output also seems quieter. All in all as if set up for WET-DRY but thats not what I want. I just have two STEREO systems in the house. i swopped jacks on the PA just to check its the HELIX not the PA inputs etc. And its not the PA. The levels seem ok and balanced when playing an iTunes track via iPad and USB1/2 using camera kit. So its just the guitar preset audio path which seems effected. this is regardless of patch.. i just tried a brand new patch for example and put just a gain block on it - and levels were quiet in one and loud in the other. switching to any other patch with reverb on it puts reverb VERY WET on one output and a normal dryish amp +cab output on the other. I DID try resetting globals with no change.
  14. yes - can help to have an UPS in some areas. at the least a mains spike suppressor - although often these days electronics devices include these internally anyway in the mains inlet circuitry
  15. Wouldn’t it have been easier just to use Monkey for all this ? things do seem to have gotten more complex and confusing with HELIX compared to olden times. Or at least make it so the one app - HELIX does the updating biz as well as editing. Having said that - fortunately my update went find. I followed the instructions to the letter ( of course )
  16. THANK !! YOU !!! ( would be nice if in the future we could assign the headphone knob to the trim - since its likely that this parameter would need to be changed quite a bit - on the fly - in live situations - backing tracks etc etc- but maybe that knob is hard-wired and not under software control ? dunno ) .. DI ?
  17. Hi chris vermaak, In the end I went for an expensive app called LoopBack by Rogue Ameoba. Did the job. Recommended but as i said - not cheap. https://www.rogueamoeba.com/loopback/
  18. Tommasi Ferrares has suggested something even better than my suggestion above: When playing the guitar and using the HELIX in anger for live performance or even regular practicing or jamming at home - its unlikely that one will be wanting to tweak patch parameters "on the hoof". So why not have TWO special "PERFORMANCE MODES" - where one or more of the 6 knobs can be set up to control things like guit in, mic in, usb 1-2 in, REVERB, xlr out, 1/4 out and maybe usb 1-2 vs internal paths mix. Like if there was some sort of Mixer. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Special-PERFORMANCE-mode-for-6-knobs-under-the-screen/826567-23508 There could be a GLOBAL PERFORMANCE mode- for example where just common mixing gets done - on the USB 1/2 inputs and patch volume out and maybe a single reverb block could be assigned to be controllable global - so we always have a "REVERB" knob we can adjust live - and maybe we could always have three TONE knobs set up - which can be assigned to either amp controls or EQ controls - as one wishes. But as well as doing this GLOBALLY - it should also be possible to just do this PER PRESET. So if one just is using a 3 channel type preset - we can configure the knobs just for that. Such a feature would be great for all those time when we just need to be able to quickly turn down the bottom end, add a little more reverb - or adjust the mix of a backing track or a send. As Captain Picard would say - "Line 6 make it so" [ Big HAT TIP to Tommasi Ferrares for suggesting this in a comment to another of my FRs ] :)
  19. if that is truly so - then my other alternative suggestion for this would be to **globally** assign one of the six knobs below the screen ( say the 6th one ) to be permanently controlling the volume of USB 1/2 or some stereo input pair - as above. ( i've added this in the updated ideascale ) Yes of course this would mean one less knob for tweaking parameters - but then we always have those PAGE+ and PAGE- buttons to call upon.
  20. Latest IdeaScale: Allow us to re-assign the PHONES knob as a volume controller for the USB 1/2 audio input feed - to control level of backing tracks in iTunes or iPad, iPhone etc from the HELIX. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Option-to-use-Phones-Knob-to-control-volume-on-USB-1-2-input/826299-23508?submitted=1 Like a lot of people i'd like to plug an iPad or Mac into my HELIX via USB and play backing tracks etc through USB 1/2. Trouble is this just routes the USB stereo outputs from an iPad ( or other source ) directly to the outputs where they get mixed with the guitar patch output. Some iPad apps allow easy control of output volume - but others - when using USB as output - disable any volume controls altogether. Also there are situations in which it would be much easier to adjust the mix of backing track on USB inputs with the helix - ON THE HELIX itself. So why not allow us to assign the PHONES knob as a volume controller for the USB 1/2 feed ? That way we can mix the audio form and iPod, or mac iTunes easily from the HELIX itself. This needs to work GLOBALLY of course. In this mode - the headphones output would be disabled. But whenever headphones were connected again the knob reverts to controlling the phones volume. Alternatively - allow users to **globally** assign one of the six knobs below the screen ( say the 6th one ) to be permanently controlling the volume of USB 1/2 or some stereo input pair - as above instead of using the PHONES knob.
  21. nonchai 8:18PM in General Flag Hi - I plugged my iPad into a USB port on my iMac and used the OSX 10.11.5 Audio MIDI Setup utility to route my iPads audio output to my iMac's CoreAudio using "Show iOS Device Browser" . This is so i can play back audio from any iOS app thru my iMacs built-in outputs etc. But how can I now configure my Mac so that my HELIX ( plugged into the mac via USB ) can have its audio routed into the iPad so I can use Loopy HD as a looper in this setup ? Plugging the iPad directly into the HELIX works - but I need this setup to work too - since my HELIX needs to be able to be ( ideally ) permanently connected to my iMac while still being able to use Loopy HD from time to time without plugging and unplugging everything .... Any ideas ? surely this can be achieved without buying a iConnectMIDI box no ?
  22. OK - so my main USB2 hub seems to work fine with the iPad as host - with NO computer attached. i've managed to get MIDI from the 12-step AKAI LPC25 keyboard into Garageband in iPad. also have the HELIX running into and out of the iPad - via the ( powered ) USB 2 Hub. My next problem however is that old thorny issue that the volume control in Garageband that normally controls the master output volume of the iPad is greyed out. This is a known issue - but will experiment with an iOS app that apparently can be used to mix the audio outputs from several audio apps at once... bit fiddly.
  23. yes - and in fact i just realised that a normal USB2 hub connected to the iPad - if it has a TYPE B socket on it for the **UPSTREAM** port i should be able to connect the iPad vi camera-kit to a hub - and then providing it is powered - ought to be able to act as host to more than one device at a time. Just cancelled my Amazon order...... thanks phil-m - you jogged my tiny brain into action :) DOH !
  24. just ordered the above two items from Amazon - we'll wait and see ...
  25. it will need an external 5V 3A PSU adapter to work. - see the blurb above: "Bus powered with socket for optional 5V DC 2.6A power supply" on Amazon there are plenty the fit the spec and cheaper than the PSU adapter recommended and sold by LINDY. I'm probably going to order this today and try it out. If it works- its a lot cheaper than that iConnectMIDI box
