you can also mod a cry baby for around $12. http://line6.com/support/topic/21821-modding-a-cry-baby-to-make-an-expression-pedal/

After a lot of hunting I went for a pair of HD600, and they sound really good. Not the cheapest, but worth it. http://en-uk.sennheiser.com/best-audio-headphones-high-end-stereo-hifi-hd-600

my bad... I hadn't updated the editor... All good now. This is what happens when you decided to play with your toys at 1am! :) Thanks all.

I did do a global reset after both updates I've done. No problems the last time.

I updated to the latest firmware - after some patches won't import. Anyone else having this? Can't remember the exact working but it basically said not supported. For example all but one of my Glenn Delaune Helix Boutique AmpsSimulation Patches now don't work. Any thoughts? I did follow the instructions for the update Thanks Mark

I bought some just to see how someone else did it. I've also got some from the community. Some great, some not so. The ones I bought were from Glenn Delaunce. I've very much enjoyed his vintage amp pack. Cost me around £14. Which considering a coffee costs me £2.50 ain't too bad. I'm limited time wise. In my younger days I'd of spent all day and night tweaking. But now time is tight. Is say all of Glenn's sounded really good. Where as free ones are a bit more hit and miss. Would I buy any more? No. It's was more something to try to see what I could learn.

can't get my head around recording with Logic pro.

Thanks all for the help with 'ins' and 'outs' The final part was a duff USB lead - I have two and one always caused problems with latency and one didn't - guess with one I used. :( It's always something that get ya! Thanks again - much appreciated. Best Mark -

Thanks for all that - very helpful. I have everything now working as far as ins and outs. But I still can't get an joy through the headphones. If I leave on 'software monitoring' I get the two signals and a kind of 'chorus' effect. If I turn off software monitoring I can hear nothing through my headphones. records fine. just no output. I have the headphones set to 'multi' in the global settings. And if I set the output blocks to Mulit I can record fine - just both guitar and mic on one channel as you mentioned. Here's a grab of where I'm at. I might upgrade to Logic X - but I use it in a pretty basic way so might be overkill for my needs. Besides surly I should be able to get this to work without up grading? -

thanks all for all of the above. I'll have a look tonight. -
I'm trying to record guitar and vocals at the same time. I can record just a guitar track, all works fine, and guitar and mic onto one track (obviously not much use) I can spit the output by panning one hard left and the other hard right, but then recording is a bit weird as you have one part in one ear and one in the other. As it stands I have the output blocks on the Helix so it's: guitar > USB 1/2 Mic > USB 3/4 Then in Logic I have software monitoring turned off. The track for the Guitar set to input 1/2 & output 5/6 The track for the mic set to input 3/4 & output 7/8 I have audio going in OK, but I can't hear anything through the headphones (I'm just running out of the headphone port on the Helix) If I set both outputs to stereo out then I can hear everything except that I can hear both the input and the monitoring with a slight delay. Almost like a 'chorus' effect. Here's a grab of my set up in Logic. Is there something dumb I'm doing? Headphone monitoring set wrong? Any advice would be great. Cheers Mark

cheers for the reply.

thanks for all that.

I might have got this wrong, so bear with me. If you are recording guitar and mic at the same time and sending them via USB 1/2 how do you make it so the guitar ONLY goes to USB 1 and vocals got to USB 2. At the moment I can only see how to send them to USB 1/2 at the same time and obviously i then get both guitar and vocals combined on both tracks. Cheers Mark

recording guitar and mic via usb and monitoring with headphones.

Any tips on how to record mic and guitar (both going through the Helix) and monitor with headphones (through the Helix). I can get this working, but the one problem I have is I get latency through the headphones. I have the guitar going through output USB 1/2 and the mic going through USB 3/4 Any obvious thing I am doing wrong? I could use the audio output on my mac, but do I need to? Thanks Mark -
I bought a padded cover from www.hotcovers.co.uk in the UK. £25 (ish) delivered. That thing is (was) a dust magnet!
-
Is it possible to use an additional footswitch with the helix? To start / stop the looper. On the floor version. I would like a switch on the floor as I use the Helix on my desk. Cheers Mark

My padded cover just arrived from www.hotcovers.co.uk Under £25 delivered for a custom, padded cover that's a great fit (still have everything plugged into the back) and really well made. Mine is canvas rather than vinyl. Not the most exciting pic :) but you get the idea.

Is it possible to use an external for switch with the helix? Just a simple on/off. I was wondering if I could wire up the switch on a wah pedal I missed into an expression pedal and make the switch on it turn on/off the wah. Using two cables coming from the expression pedal. Cheers Mark
-
I have this working - needs to be the 10k pot to make life easy. Heal down 0% - toe 100% works perfectly. Being an old WAH is has a shorter sweep so it can be tricky doing very small increments with it. But then I use the main helix pedal is I need to do that. Once I tweaked the pot to get the it in the right place it was all good - not adjustment on the Helix at all. One thing to remember is the Helix uses a regular guitar lead - not a TRS jack like some others.
-
So the pot arrived and it works really well. Simple little mod that makes use of an old WAH - thanks for the help all. Followed this from a2dconverterguy

Basic(ish) question. Making a switch turn 'X' on whist turning 'X' off.
markblack77 replied to markblack77's topic in Helix
Thanks I try that later. -
To be honest I don't really need an expression pedal - I just like to tinker and I hate waste. Pot was shot in the WAH so just want to use it for something if I can. I hear good things about the Mission pedals - I'd go that way if it was going to get enough use.
-
I've tried to work this out - I might be being stupid so bear with me. Is it possible to make one switch say turn on a drive pedal whilst turning off a another drive pedal? I know I can do this with snap shots. I was messing around using a two amp set up and wanted to have one as the drive, and one as the clean 0 mimic a two channel amp. But I can't work out how to make one pedal do turn one thing on and another thing off. I know you can merge to make two things turn on / off. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Cheers Mark
