  1. I have tried making input 2 Variax. When I do that I only hear the modeled sound. The screen shot I put up was from when I was testing just getting a sound without the models. I have also tried reversing inputs 1 and 2, putting the Variax on input 1 and Variax Mags on input 2.
  2. Okay, I feel like I am missing something obvious here. I wanted to blend the sound of the coral sitar with the magnetic pickup. I am getting the sitar sound but not the mags. I attached a picture of the setup. I am using the L6 into a DT25 and using the VDI cable. Like I said I feel like I am missing something easy here. When I try to just play the mags there is no sound at all.
  3. I have a JTV-69 and a PRS McCarty. Nothing can replace the McCarty. Best guitar I have ever had. In that sense the Dream Rig will never be a complete dream. After tooling around with the 69 since May, I do appreciate the versatility. Having sounds like Tele and Gretsch on command is pretty handy to me. I like that I can keep the McCarty plugged into the Guitar Input and keep the JTV in the Variax input.
  4. My JTV-69 was constantly getting out of tune, even after a setup. The solution recommended to was Nut Sauce. That stuff is amazing! It seems pricey but you really don't need much. http://www.bigbends.com
  5. Good luck to you on your adventure ! I have had my full rig since May when I got a JTV-69 to go with an HD500 and DT25. It is only now I am feeling comfortable with the whole package. It's a blast now! Our band has a song where I go from Tele into a Fender Twin (in topology 3 for an extra bright sound) on the verse and chorus (I add a rotary/horn effect at the end of the chorus) to a break where I have a 335 into a Park and then a bridge with a Strat on neck pickup into a Fender Twin. 3 guitars and 2 amps (3 if you count the Twin with Top 3). The thing is it all sounds organic to the song, not gimmicky. So much fun !
  6. I have never used it. Anytime I am using my POD with a band there is a PA, so I have no need to plug a mic into it. If I am recording at home, I am actually still using my Toneport DI Gold with Gearbox (remember that?) for vocals.
  7. I have a similar setup, a Freeway SA and a GR-55. I have tried several approaches. I have found the Guitar Out to be oddly noisy on high gain patches. 1) If you don't mind the sound of the GR-33 through your amp, you could do this: put the 1/4" out from the Godin into the POD. Take the L/mono out from the GR and put it into the FX return of the pod. Then create a patch on the pod that has nothing it in except an FX loop. You will need to turn up the return level. When you go to this patch, whatever sound you currently have on the GR will go through the POD with no POD amp or effects. 2) I have also tried getting the GR sound to a PA instead of my amp (a DT25). For this I used 2 a/b pedals. The 1/4" from the Godin went into one a/b box, and the output of the GR went into the other a/b box, with the other end of that going to a PA. Basically each a/b box was like a mute/unmute pedal for each sound. This involved a lot of cables, and also some careful toe tapping, as I would have to tap both a/b pedals at the same time. It was never really that bad with some practice. I could also have both signals on, so if I wanted I could get a POD guitar patch and a synth GR patches at the same time -- great for filling space. I have attached a picture of the second setup, which also included a Digitech vocalist.
  8. Great video from Line 6! The only thing that puzzled me is that it looked like he was setting the Variax preset on the non-acoustic patch. But I might have just seen it incorrectly.
  9. What a great example of what this rig is capable of! I've watched a number of your videos, and they are quite impressive!
  10. I got my JTV 69 about a month ago, and switched it to 9 gauge strings, which I use on my other guitar. I had it professionally set up, but I find it goes out of tune a lot. Would going back to 10s with another setup help, or is there some other issue? I thought it might be humidity, but I keep 3 other guitars stored in the same areas as the JTV and they all stay in tune. Thanks!
  11. I hear ya ! I've had my DT25 a year now and I still can't believe how much fun it is. The hd500 adds another great element. I just got a JTV and I am still in the novelty stage of discovery -- I have several songs for which I have set up four or more patches that change guitars, tunings, topologies, and amps. Woo hoo! Still, it is the DT25 powering it all that makes it all worth it.
  12. I updated the DT25 a few months ago to the firmware that added a bunch of amps accessible via midi. I assume that is the latest. Is there something I could check to see if it is a situation where "the amp wants it off and the pod wants it on or vice versa" ?
  13. After mucking around some more, I've concluded that the extra brightness effect happens when I am switching from an AC30 patch to something else. When I changed the amp from AC30 to something else, the brightness boost didn't happen. I have no idea why this happens. It's also a fairly recent phenomenon. I noticed in the thread from last year edstar1960 mentioned it happening when switching from a Gibtone pre and a PhD pre. I supposed I have created a workaround by not using the AC30, but it's not really a solution.
  14. I read your original thread from last year. Too bad nothing came of it. Like you I had first noticed it with my jtv but today it kept happening with a regular guitar. It is so frustrating because there seems to be no pattern to it.
  15. So far no success in my troubleshooting. I have reflashed the firmware 3 times. I even rolled back to an earlier firmware to see if that made a difference, and it didn't. I hooked up a midi pedal (fcb1010) to do the program changes as a way of checking if there was something wrong with the physical footswitch on the hd500, but it did the same thing (adding extra brightness until I pressed down to "reload" the patch). An interesting wrinkle I've noticed is it doesn't do it for every patch. I've only noticed it so far in going from an AC30 patch to a Fender BF and in going from an AC30 patch to a JCM800 patch. I've been able to successfully go from other patches to the Fender BF and JCM800 without the brightness boost. I just turned everything off as in the middle of doing some patch switching back and forth a most ominous kind of deep rumbling emerged from my DT25 for about 10 seconds that I've never heard in my life. Time to give everyone a rest...
  16. I have noticed a problem with the footswitches on my hd500. When I press on a footswitch to go to another patch, the new patch comes in extra bright as if there has been a big treble boost. If I then press the footswitch again, the patch sounds like it normally should. It is as though I need to press twice to change a patch. At first I thought the problem was my new Variax, as I first noticed it while switching patches that included changing the guitar model or tuning. However I found the extra brightness issue even when I changed to a regular guitar. I searched the forum about footswitch problems, but those threads I found were about footswitches that were not working at all. Mine work but with this added very annoying treble boost. Any thoughts on this one?
  17. I guess I was afraid to give it that significant push. It's charging now. Thanks man!
  18. Good evening! I got my Jtv 69 delivered today. I've had the HD500 for 2 years and a DT25 for a year, so I've finally completed the dream rig. I've also been reading this forum for awhile before buying my guitar, so I thought I was ready for all the typical newbie problems, but... I cannot get the battery to fit on the charger! Of all the problems to have! I feel like an idiot; it's not like I haven't put batteries in chargers before. I can't get it to fit onto the charger. As a result, I can't hook into Workbench HD at all, which is what I wanted to play around with. Am I missing something obvious? How does the dang thing attach?
  19. This is what was happening to me. Replacing the tubes brought everything back in its loud, tonal glory.
  20. I'm a very happy to report a great update to my original issue! I replaced the tubes and wow! the amp I knew and loved was back!!! My clean sounds were clean and loud, and only gritty if I really crank the drive. Moral of the story for me: make sure to keep those tubes fresh! Now I will enjoy my DT25 again....until I read about the Jan 23 "reinvention" of the amp! Thanks to all who replied. I am saving you advice. Great forum
  21. This morning (wife and kid out again -- lucky me for volume purposes!) I tried the Gibtone amp with the drive low. I actually used a full model as well instead of the pre. I am getting closer to a good plain clean sound! Thanks radatats and everyone for all the advice -- you guys opened me up to ideas I hadn't thought of. I still wonder if my Double/Twin model is not working right; it's still the quietest of all. I don't recall it being like that when I first got the amp.
  22. Awesome feature! I only wish I hadn't bought that Weber attenuator this past summer!
  23. Thanks for the patches! Like you, I am using these patches just for live use, DT25 and PodHD500. The Lux is much louder than the Double. I loved the phrase "sweet dirt." It's so hard to describe sound, but that one's a keeper! I wish I could get the Double as loud as the Lux -- that would be the tone I am looking for (pristine but loud), though I also like the Lux a lot. I always thought great crunch and high gain tones were the hardest to get, but I've been getting plenty of satisfying sounds for those. Go figure!
  24. Just tried this. Much to my disappointment, my ears weren't ringing on these settings. When I switched to a Marshall/Park sound, then my ears were feeling it. Not with the Fender clean models (Double or Lux) -- just not that loud, given where the amp settings were. I think I may bring it somewhere to get new tubes.
