  1. I find I listen just one day later and amazed at how bad something sounds. The other week I thought I had developed a Sweet Emotion tone (that is one of my holy grail tones) and the next day it just sounded putrid.
  2. I have some Frank and Bob in me. As someone who has a DT25 and HD500, I see that rig as a half Frank, half Bob -- maybe call me Frob?! The tricky thing with the DT setup is it sounds so great that inevitably I want to capture a recorded version of that sound. Simply going back to the Pod won't do at the point, though I can get some good sounds with the Pod direct. My quest for awhile has been trying to mic the DT25 sound that I love so much. It feels weird when I think about using a mic on an amp that has a modeled preamp! And of course it is a struggle. I am no engineer, and though there was one day I got a great miked sound, I have had trouble duplicating the experience even though I took pictures of the setup and saved patches. The Quest of Frob continues!
  3. Sounds fun! The only signal split I have tried is sending the coral sitar to a powered speaker while sending the mags to the DT. It was a cool way to blend sounds.
  4. Yes, I have lowered the Lester models by about 5db. They are still hotter than my PRS. For the brightness part, I have been slashing treble and presence on the amp models. With the Lester model , I have pretty much been using the Park 75 Normal amp, a predictable combination. I add a Tube Drive for more dirt. I use Lester with the Treadplate and Engl amps as well. Here's an interesting combination I tried. One our band's songs called for a twangy, jangly sound, so I thought of the Tele model position 1. I then went with the AC30 model, Topology III on my DT25. The result was ***way** too bright. I switched over to the Plexi Normal amp, which isn't that dirty even with a good amount of drive dialed in. That paired with the Tele got me the sound I wanted. For the Spank models, I have been using the set someone created on here that was an attempt to emulate firmware 1.9.
  5. I use a JTV-69 and a PRS McCarty. The McCarty is my main guitar and I use the JTV for songs were I need variations in sounds, especially variations within a song. For me, I have found that the latest firmware is overly bright. I remember when it came out that was hailed and compared to taking a blanket off the amp. However, I find I need to dial down the brightness, which is not easy to do. Sometimes the Lester model sounds way too hot, and I even have its overall level down quite a bit. Same with the Spank. Other models like the rockabilly, semi, and jazzbox sound just fine to me.
  6. That is so awesome looking! Must be crazy loud!
  7. Fantastic sounding! I can't wait to see the video about them.
  8. The Pod can only control channel A on the DT25. Channel B will always be whatever manual settings are there. You can access channel B via the Pod by turning off the amp in channel A. You can thus make a "channel B" patch on the pod. You can also throw some pre effects on there if you like.
  9. As a Pod HD500 user, I am very happy to see the available update. It is going to be rough waiting for it. All you 500x users better post sound samples while I am waiting for the "shortly thereafter" period to update! It will be like waiting for Christmas!
  10. Thanks for the reply! I had been using a Roland GR-55 with an HD500 for a few years, and I found it to be a clunky setup. All I wanted to be able to was quickly switch from playing just a POD patch to just a GR-55 patch. I ended up running the GR-55 out into the FX return of the POD and then creating a patch with just the FX on it which I would label "GR-55". But it was clunky, as I would have to pre-select the patch on the GR-55 before selecting a patch on the POD. It also ran the GR-55 into my amp, which is not an ideal sound. As you said, you have to really pre-determine a lot to make it work. I was looking at your setup, and my follow up question is: how quickly are you able to make those swtiches? You wrote that you roll off the JTV volume or roll of the FTP volume. Is that just something you learn to do quickly on the fly? I was thinking of switching from the GR-55 to the FTP (although I don't have an ipad so I'm not sure what I'd run it through). I Thanks again!
  11. May I ask how you have all that configured? The FTP has to be connected to a laptop, right? So you take the audio out from that and plug into the 2nd amp? How do you switch sounds? For example how would you go from playing a rhythm guitar to a synth lead without having the sound of the guitar amp still going?
  12. I had an hd500 for a year before adding the DT25. The combination of those two is just awesome. I can't believe how great the DT25 sounds. I was lucky enough a good a year later to get a JTV 69 on sale (they are even at a better price now). I like it and it is great to switch from a Tele to Strat to LP etc on a patch by patch basis. In the end though, I also have a PRS McCarty and if the jtv disappeared tomorrow I would still have a great guitar and an awesome pod/amp combination. If you love your main guitar like I do then I would get the DT25
  13. 1) for crunch I find myself using the Park 75 a lot. It's a nice warm sound in its own and then adding a tube drive or screamer can drive it into an amazing high gain sound. 2) for clean there is no pristine clean amp on the pod hd (I know many have requested a Roland for that). I like the Blackface double but it is very quiet. I actually started using the Plexi Normal to do some clean sounds. I am running all this through my DT25 which really makes the whole thing work. The Plexi as a clean amp worka for me because at Pentode A/B there is a lot of headroom so it can get pretty loud and stay relatively clean.
  14. Well, I seem to be talking to myself, but I think I figured it out. The dry signal wasn't being recorded well enough. It was too weak, so reamping a weak signal didn't yield great results. I got the DI box going and now it's working fine.
  15. I have attached 3 files. One is my guitar into the POD/DT25, and then the signal goes from the cab simulated out into the daw. The second is guitar dry into daw. The third is the dry signal reamped out of the daw into the Radial and then into the POD/DT25, using the same patch I used in the first file. I've read such good things about the possibilities of reamping, so there's go to be something I am missing. Guitar into DT25.mp3 Guitar Dry.mp3 Dry Reamped into DT25.mp3
  16. Greetings! I am trying to reamp and have run into an odd problem. I sent a dry track out of my daw and into a Radial pro rmp and then into the Guitar In of the Pod. That signal then went via l6 link to my DT25. The problem is that the signal coming out of the DT25 was weak. My patch was a park75 with some tube drive. It is one of my bread and butter mid gain sounds. But it sounded like a clean sound-- no real drive. I then switched to a high gain patch based off the Tread pre. It had a little crunch but nothing like when I have my guitar plugged directly in I feel like I am missing something. I found if I cranked the output of the daw it got better but I am not sure if that is what I am supposed to do. I thought the point of the reamping box is to reduce the gain of the dry signal, so cranking the volume heading into the box seems contradictory. And even so, when I do that the sound still lacks the amount of gain I would have when plugging my guitar in to the pod. I may be able ton post a sound sample later but right now it is before 6 am and I can't wake the family. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  17. I downloaded this and was trying it through my DT25. I changed the cab to Blackbird 30 and it sounded great. I thought it was interesting that you kept the gain on the amp low and added more gain from the Tube Drive.
  18. Can anyone help me find the patch? I didn't see a link or a name to search for? Thanks!
  19. I just ordered a Harbinger 12" to try out for the acoustics. I have this nagging feeling that within a few months there will be a pod firmware update that allows you to change the output setting on a patch basis.
  20. Greetings! I have what you might call Dream Rig 1.0, the HD500, JTV-69, and a DT25. Overall I am pretty happy with it. There is of course that nagging dilemma about acoustic sounds. I have the patch from radats that is a good workaround (thanks again!). However the acoustics just sound better going into a frfr speaker, for reasons we all know. Enter the l2 speaker. Everything I have read here suggests it is great for acoustics. I look at the l2 as the dream rig 2.0. I'm wondering whether it is worth getting as a supplement to what I have. I don't want to get rid of the DT, yet I know from reading here it is a challenge to get the DT and l2 to play nice together through the L6 link. Given that I wonder if I am better off getting a regular powered speaker instead of an l2 since I just want it for acoustics and I could run the fx send on a pod patch to such a speaker. Does anyone do that and find it works well?
  21. Just got a chance to try these out -- very nice! I was going back and forth with the 2.1 Spank and you modifications, and I agree that positions 2 and 4 sound especially better. 5 sounds less shrill to me as wel..
  22. Just a word of warning about this. To get the GR-55 guitar models into the POD, the GR-55 has a Guitar Out which, as the name suggests, only carries a guitar signal. However it is quite noisy, and when you run it into a high gain amp on the POD, it generates noise and hiss which many, like me, find unusable.
  23. I am now getting a sound from the Variax mags through the VDI, but it is noisy. I have attached a file with a sample of me playing a few chords in each of the 5 positions. I had only Variaz Mags selected as input 1; input 2 was set to Aux and nothing was plugged into that. I thought it might be the VDI cable, but when I use modeled sounds everything sounds great. I checked the volume and tone knobs as suggested, but alas nothing changed. I was really hoping it would be something that easy! Variax Mags with VDI.mp3
