I think the issue is that audio drivers written to not use apple's core audio have had compatibility issues with El Cap. For good or bad Apple moves ahead to improve without baggage. There are some on here claiming that the latest beta from apple resolves some issues. Helix using up to date tech isn't a disregard for prebious hardware IMO. It's the right thing to do today. Line6 could do a better job supporting older hardware and at least started testing months ago BUT it appears to actually something Apple is fixing in this case rather then line6. I bet that is a quicker resolution then a complete driver rewrite from L6.

They have the 500 on the list. I expect you'll get the update at the same time as all of us.

By the 3rd beta it is quite stable indeed with plenty of time to get it worked out. The point is that this is the period to work out and test your new drivers which are also beta with a smaller intrepid group of testers. Then you are ready for release. Quite a simple and straightforward approach.

Yeah me too.

The Focusrite works for me in El Cap. If you don't need to upgrade I'd wait as others have said. I had no choice in the matter.

I use this: http://us.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/scarlett-2i2

'Replica's'. That is great! I can't wait to call them that when they get home.

At 1500 I'll be happily staying with the hd500x.
-
There is new bass stuff for hd500x to be fair including the HD pack.
-
FWIW: the 500x is $375 used in a few places.

It is my understanding that the models before the x were more limited and had as few as one Bass amp in some. I seem to remember the x3l having a bit more then that but it has been a long time and I wasn't using it for bass at all then.
-
The hd500x has some bass modeling as well as guitar. Suggest download manuals and look through models. There is an expansion for bass as well: http://store.line6.com/hd-bass-pack.html There are some user created patches for bass on here as well. YouTube doesn't have much for examples of this. What is there seems to be out of date.

For future make sure when you do OS updates on your Macs, do a complete image copy to an external drive. Label it and put it away for weeks or more (don't overwrite it) until you are sure everything in the new OS is compatible with your your software and hardware. If something critical is not working copy it back. I use a product called SuperDuper. It has saved my butt many times when upgrading too early. And in general check the internet for compatibility before upgrading. Threads like this one will popup fast with people that ran the beta OS early and had problems. I check forums for VMWare, Apple software and others first for problems. Hope that helps someone at least in the future. BTW: the drive copy is bootable as well which gives you more flexibility in certain cases.

As far as I know it's on Line6 alone to change their drivers to support the new OS. The sticky at the top of all forums here does not commit to any timeframe.

Agreed. I thought the fact that it sounded bad when obvious would be self limiting. Go figure.

Sorry to hear you are having the driver compatibility issues. The good news is Line6 is aware of it as its their responsibility to update their drivers. Apple released El Cap in beta months ago so 3rd parties can prepare for the public release. Line6 just missed the opportunity to be ready. It hopefully won't take long. Be sure to check these boards as Line 6 may release beta versions of the driver first and ask us to give it a try before they announce a released driver. The UX2 is on their list.

Thanks everyone. I learned a couple of things there.

Can someone correct me where I am confused? Thanks! In settings we have a Z setting for the guitar input. I have a bass with active pickups so a higher setting like 1M is appropriate. On section 2 of the Advanced guide it lists the Z's for various amps and pedals. My understanding is that this is so you can choose the order of devices to avoid loss in tone due to mismatched Z's. If the setting for the guitar input is supposed to match my instrument why is there the ability to match it to first device in chain?

I hear that it has been used at some level for nearly all artists whether they know it or not during mixing. It dwarfs the cost and time it would take to fix it with the performer.

Attention Line 6 some honest feedback from a new user..pros and cons

My Keyboard is dead silent and no dongle berry for power. But that's cool. Could be that there is more room for it or distance. I think it's just because they dealt with it being inside and made it work.- 45 replies

I was really surprised I couldn't find the On/Off switch when I bought the unit this week. I was sadly not surprised to find the home electronics grade external power adapter. All this discussion about high-end or not is missing the point. The choice to not have an internal power supply with a standard AC cord makes it not as reliable for gigging. It's a poor place to cut corners in my opinion. And why is the end with the plug end so long? It takes up an entire length of a strip (used in place of missing power on/off switch). Korg has internal power with sub 1k gear and sell gear worldwide. I am sure Line6 could do the same. Love the thing immensely in all ways except for these power choices. I understand that the external supply is also about moving the input compliance for the power supply outside the unit as much as anything else. But would have gladly paid more to have the internal supply. And of course an on off switch! I must say the USB instead of the weird RJ plug (assembled cheaply to boot) the other L6 boards/amps had is a huge step up. Thanks for that. That special cable was always a pain to keep track of since you didn't use it every day. Since we have to use the external supply, it's not hard to keep track of it, but I hope it holds up.- 45 replies

I would think that this could help to keep the guitar sounding more in correct tune rather than mask bad playing. In that regard it really wouldn't be cheating as far as playing goes but more of an effect. As others have said could somehow be interesting. Would the effect be more pronounced with more sloppy playing? It's worth messing with for fun.

That is a great idea. Actually wish they'd do the same for both. Noticed Tony put the warning as a sticky today. Hopefully people came here and checked before upgrading. Some of us have no choice.

I use quite a lot of that software. I have no issues. Fantastical 2, Final Cut, SnagIt, several Eclipse based IDEs. Remote Desktop, Native Instruments, Outlook, Cuebase on and on. And other similar like VMWare, Path Finder, DaisySisk. Nothing Java based is broken. Nothing Flashed based is broken. Nothing is broken except: License Manager? Partially works. Pod farm: 32 but drivers Further most software has had beta releases right along as they work things out.
