pregister
Hi All, I got an hd500x about a month ago. Loving it. Using it to record to Logic Pro X on a mac mini. Connected via USB to the mac mini, set up as the mac's sound card. My speakers are plugged into the headphone jack of the hd500x. I'm not getting any panning. Everything comes equally out of both speakers. There is a change in sound when I pan but it is minor. Tried plugging back into the mac's headphone jack (1/8" jack, vs using a 1/4" adapter for the pod) and panning is fine. To test, I just played an mp3 and used the speaker balance thing in the mac's sound settings. Speakers plugged into the hd500x, nothing. Speakers plugged into the mac, it worked like expected. Is there something stupid in setup that I'm missing? I'm going to pick up a new adapter this afternoon...not even sure if that _could_ be causing the problem. Thoughts? Triryche
Could be the adapter if it is a TS and not TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) . Here's a pic that shows the difference.
pregister
Ok. New speaker cabler. New adapter. Still same problem. Are there software settings for this sort of thing?
brue58ski
Have you tried anything else plugged into the HD500 like some headphones?
pregister
I have now. Still doesn't work. I'm testing simply by using the Sound Output settings thing on the Mac and using the Balance slider. Does nothing. When the speakers / headphones are plugged directly into the mac headphone jack, that slider works. HD500X is plugged into mac via USB. Speakers (Bose, computer speakers) are plugged into the hd500x headphone jack using a 1/8->1/4" adapter. The new adapter (and the old one too) is a TRS adapter. If I go to the mac audio devices configuration thing, and click Configure speakers..if I click the left speaker, I get horrible static from the left speaker. If I click the right speaker, I get horrible static from the right speaker. The static is just from the speaker test thing. I'm currently listening to music and it sounds fine...it just won't pan at all.
Triryche
I would use the Monkey and confirm you have the latest drivers and firmware.
pregister
Everything is up to date. The only thing that wasn't was the Workbench, which wasn't installed. Is now.
pregister
Well, another trip to Radio Shack. Not using the headphone jack anymore. Using the 1/4" unbalanced. Pan is fine. :) No clue on the other jack, but I no longer have to worry about it. Thanks for the suggestions!
Triryche
That's weird, glad you got it sorted though!
cruisinon2
Well, another trip to Radio Shack... Pretty soon no one will be able to say that anymore... :( I'll have to find someplace else that requires a set of fingerprints and a DNA sample to buy a 9V battery.
