zooey
So I was playing through Amplitube 4 again last night, as usual; it's my go-to rig these days. It forking *rocks*. I wish I had its flexibility in an amp or modeler, but even more, its *tones*. Sparkly, full cleans, very nice slightly fat/dirty stuff, *seriously* ballsy drive sounds, left-field specials, pretty much everything I want. Not "pretty good for a sim", just plain great, full stop, for me. It's not perfect ergonomically, and of course there are fx and amps it doesn't have, but fundamentally, sound-wise, I'm a happy guy in there. All of which is to say that I'm very much looking forward to Helix, but it's got its work cut out for it. Logistically, I'd much rather not play out with a PC rig, which is what got me looking at Helix, I just hope it can get me there as much as Amplitube does. And you're right, this post has no point :). I'm just excited, way beyond broke, and anxious to see how it actually works out for me, finally. Wheee (soon)! DarrellM5
I think you'll be impressed. I have Amplitube 3 myself. Remember, you have the option of using both together thanks to the USB capabilities of Helix.
jroseberry
FWIW Helix is super easy to program. IMO, Helix sounds and responds better than any current amp-sim plugin. So much so... that I no longer have the amp-sim plugins installed on any of my DAWs.

AT4 is considerably better than AT3, new cab room, Marshal models, etc.. If you're still using, it's worth the upgrade IMO, though I did get it at the intro price. Do you have the AT Mesas? Really great IMO. But I've gotten happy with a number of other amps too.

Honestly though, I haven't fired up AT3 since I got my Helix in October.
spikey
Zooey I have yet to hear software alone (Amplitude, GuitarRig, Revalver, etc etc) beat a dedicated $1000.+ hardware unit. Ever. I think you will be awestruck.
zooey
Hope you're right spikey, I'm ready! (I hate Revalver 3 for the same reasons I hate actual Peaveys, haven't heard 4, and IMO Guitar Rig blows for organic guitar tones. Winners for me are Amplitube and Scuffham, by miles. Haven't tried Kazrog or Bias.)

You know from our other posts I was in about the exact same boat you are in with Amplitube 4 and the Mesa amps. And contrary to popular opinion, I still say that the Amplitube amp models are on par with hardware modelers. I think the Amplitube 4 Cab Room is in a class of its own in terms of funtionality. I will probably always use Amplitube on tracks and Helix live...because I can use Helix to configure routings, presets, and setlist for both! Just be sure and don't quickly judge the stock Helix presets over headphones, studio monitors, or other full range speakers with your Amplitube-tuned ears. Try different Helix HX cabs and settings, including dual cabs. Try the free OwnHammer Mesa cab IRs. I might as well spill the beans now to maybe put you more at ease...the IR'S that I made and posted on this forum and on Dropbox were from Amplitube 4 cab room ;) I'll do a new thread with full instructions soon, but it's pretty easy. The IR's don't come out EXACTLY like the AT cab/mics sampled, but they are darn close. I could probably get closer if I spent more time experimenting and tweaking. roscoe5
OK, I went ahead and wrote up the steps I can!e up with for creating Amplitude cab IRs. http://line6.com/support/topic/19604-irs-from-amplitube-4-cab-room/
