Helix Rack - floor control required?

Hi All -

I just ordered the Helix Rack.  Is the Floor Control required to use it?  I didn't want the floor version as I am using it in my studio for recording only.  Will I be missing a lot not having Floor Control (if it is not required)?

Thanks for any info.

I think the main thing would be foot edit mode. But for purely studio use, i think almost everything can be accessed from the front panel and/or the computer editor. If it's like the floor version, it.s midi controllable (patches/program change, midi cc and more) over USB and standard midi.

Check out the MIDI section of the manual around page 47 to get a better idea.

But the Helix can control your audio software, DAW, etc via MIDI over usb. So if you don't already have a floor controller, you may find the Helix controller the best option.

If you are OK with ALWAYS using your hands to make any changes then you don't need the Helix Control floorboard. It's only needed if you want to make any changes, even turning FX on/off, while playing guitar. There's nothing you can do with the controller that you can't do with your hands on the Helix Rack itself or with the editor program.

ok - thanks for the info!

Its not needed, However you still may want to nab one later on though.

I too will strictly be using my Helix rack for Studio use, so I wasn't planning on the floor controller either. However, we will be doing vocals too, and this will allow me to change parameters/effects in the Helix from the mic stand without going back and forth between the Mic, and the Helix unit physically.  So I decided I am going to add one to my order.
