talonmm
Every Saturday I download the highly rated helix customtones that have been uploaded during the last 7 days, try them out, and see which ones are keepers. Just a head's up, this weeks batch are exceptional! 4D Love of God is truly amazing and quite a few others are terrific too. This makes up for a very frustrating week as I spent way too much time trying to get helix to work with my dt50 amp using midi with little success. All this time spent without success, and not practicing guitar because of time spent with the helix modifications is especially frustrating. I tried to create a lead solo boost and assign it to footswitch 2 on many of my tones, yet time and time again, the settings would change in the volume, other seeing changed too, and the footswitch assignment often did not work as expected. Working in a wah proved troublesome too. Finally, after spending over $1,300 on a second helix so I could use with my band, it was just easier to make a small peddle board with a dedicated wah and real boost pedal. Of course that lead to issues too, as the compressors found in many of the tones I use interfered with the usefulness of the boost. Finally, using the effects loop, and putting the boost through the effects loop at the end of the path seemed to finally help. At least the cusomtones was a nice way to end the day.
willjrock
Hey thanks for the heads up. Im not a fan of the helix native cabs at all, but this is one of the better native cab patches ive heard. Its a shame thatits only given 3 stars. I prob would have skipped it lol. When i rate a patch, im also taking into account how easily i can shape it into my specific needs. Hardly ever are they "spot on" for anyone , but if it only takes a second to tweak it and get something i like a little more for myself, then i'll add a star. The most important part is how it sits in the mix or in a band setting and im sure guys dont take that into account before rating, so its unfortunate, but it makes the rating system poor, and nearly meaningless. Your post meant a lot more to me.
ColonelForbin
trying to get helix to work with my dt50 amp using midi with little success. Check with forum guy radatats; he has got that Helix-DT-MIDI thing sorted out pretty well! I went the lazy route doing Helix-DT25; I loaded up DtEdit and completely blanked my DT25 of all preamp, cab, reverb, etc. Then I assigned (on channel 'B' topo I to voicing I, topo II to voicing II, topo III to voicing III and topo IV to voicing IV. Then I use L6link from Helix to DT. Set the DT to channel B, and the voicing switches are active. Since the DT has no preamp or cab models defined, this switch now just toggles between the topo setttings; Quick and easy way to manually toggle and sort out which DT power settings work for which Helix patches. Then, when you add the MIDI control, the CC commands become much simpler; you are then just telling DT to change voicing, and whatever you have assigned for the DT power settings changes with it. I had heard that the dt can have multiple voices, so if I change tones on the fly and have midi commands for each tone, how do I flush out (or remove the existing tone in the amp, if say, if the new tone to use contains a different class and a different I, II, III, or IV setting? WickedFinger
I gave up on the "Custom Tone" section weeks ago. Never found anything that was usable or that really sounded all that good to mess with modifying it. Quite frankly scares me about buying preset packages. I know the two chaps on here that sell presets are genius at programming and light years ahead of the Custom Tone area but still makes me a little leery. I would like to have them for some ideas and if they have any cool things I have not figured out but playing through others presets on any unit I ever owned never worked out very well for me.
