Is pc really needed?

I want to buy a pod hd 500x but my pc won't allow me to set up the software since it's extremely bad. I just want to ask if i can set the patches from it without using a pc, so just Guitar, Pod hd500x and headphones. Thx.

Yes you can use the device itself to edit patches. No PC required for that. However you do need a PC/Mac computer to update firmware and to backup/restore patches.

I would say that you need to try NOT to become reliant on setting up and changing patches on a PC. I've been stuck at rehearsal not knowing how to edit a patch so I took a bit of time to learn to do everything I need on the pod.

 

As Silverhead says though you can't update firmware or backup patches. I would add that you can't Install any additional packs you buy or use any patches from customtone either.

 

Overall though I would say you can get a lot of of a pod without using a PC.

A computer is not required to use the unit as a "musical tool". In fact, it is suggested that you do not use it as a "musical tool" while hooked up to a computer. 

 

However, as previously said, there are things that you can only do with a computer (android and ios do not work). But those things are not required

You can buy one from the store, take it straight to a show, and perform. And never need a computer. AND never feel as if you are only using it to half of its abilities. 

 

 

On the other hand, based on my personal usage, I would die if I didn't have a computer for it  But I stress, that is based on my usage.
