spikey
Heres a neat little idea I ran across, if you happen to have a Fryette Power station... Here's how to use the PS as the "AMP" block inside Helix! See This video for more info. Here is the hookup diagram, along with what blocks in the editor you might use.
roscoe5
That's a cool application of the self attenuation config of the PS. Have you tried a Helix preamp or amp with that?
spikey
Not yet but will soon. I'm hoping for some tubey organic goodness using it with Helix
roscoe5
Holy amp/cab interaction Batman, you may be onto something. Technically, by putting the amp output of the PS2 back into its reactive load you have captured a generic tube amp/cab interaction. Since neutrality is a selling point of the PS2, there should be little to no coloration while adding some liveliness and real tube amp/cab feel back into the signal path. So putting a send/return block of the PS2 tube amp/reactive load between a Helix amp model block and IR could theoretically complete the modeling picture since (I don't think) Helix addresses this interaction in their modeling. Is it worth it? Remains to be seen and may be overkill. But it is a simple and elegant solution with a couple of very versatile and useful pieces of gear. Helix + PS2 is still way cheaper than Fractal Axe II.
spikey
Well, If it doesn't work as expected in this way, I can and will always have the option to use it with my DT-50 amp and Helix using the 4 cable method, a L6-Link "audio" cable, and a midi cable (at least until they get off their L6 collective arshes and fix the control part of L6-Link for Helix). Oops there I go again... ;)
roscoe5
Dude, I love your persistence on the DT integration
ColonelForbin
Seems reasonable; I have the PS2, and it doesn't output line in signals or fx return signal to the line out; only signal passed into the amp in. So, in theory what you are saying *should* work?!... I've had some fun using the PS2 with my amp, then running the XLR out from the PS2 into Helix, and built a patch to route that signal through four different IR's and send each to a separate recording track in ProTools... Helix is powerful! I've also used the PS2 as an amp to my 2x12 cab, running Helix to the PS2 out to cab. Depending where I put the send, also worked well to run full 'wet' stereo signal out via L6link to pair of L3m behind / to left and right of the 2x12 cab. Get some cool blends that way too! But I had not tried what you are suggesting.. hmmm.. keep us posted!
spikey
Colonel the video you and I linked came from Fryette themselfs (I think). So it should work well. Glad you liked the Fryette PS too as most people do!
spikey
Dude, I love your persistence on the DT integration If it happens it happens for "all" of us, and that would really make me smile. Yea Im thinking Ill try this on the PS-2 first, just to see how Helix and the PS-2 sounds thru my Firehawk 1500.
